I had been in the mood for a slightly charred burger and, in particular, from a non-chain restaurant in some smaller town or area. So, I suggested that we go to Warrensburg and visit that restaurant we ate at many moons ago. The restaurant was quiet when we arrived, so about 5 PM on a Wednesday, and not many people. The only aspect (and this is not the restaurant's issue) that seemed sad was that I mistook a homeless person in the bathroom for an inebriated person from their bar. I later learned that, sadly, Warrensburg receives a small population of these people from Kansas City, which buses them here. Anyhow, that is a side story. My husband ordered the Warrensburger (cute name, btw) and I ordered a Mushroom with Monterey Jack. Both burgers were charred to perfection. He ordered fries, and I ordered a baked mashed potato casserole (I get tired of fries) and unfortunately it wasn't warmed all the way, but it also had way too much black pepper, which I can't have. The waitress wasn't only accommodating and understanding, but made it a point to apologize, and shared apologies from the cook. I told her that there wasn't any need, and that she was very kind. She stepped it up and graced me with a fully loaded baked potato--no issues. Overall, the service, food, and everything here was fantastic and I don't suspect I will wait another twenty years again to visit.

Simply know by locals in Sedalia as "The Barn" Heritage Ranch is indeed a barn, a barn constructed to look older than it is with a mix of recycled and new materials. In addition there are two. . .huts? One for the groom's wedding party and one for the brides. . .be warned. . .these are the only two areas with air conditioning and if you are going to have a wedding in anything other than winter that barn gets toasty. . .not toasty enough for me to dock a star but tosty enough for me to say that the family that ownes it might need to look into better cooling options than the random massive fans that were everywhere. . .pordable AC units are a thing. . . LADIES! The parking for the venu is a rock field, as in the roadway is made of loose rocks, bring flats or boots and switch to heels when you get to the barn. No really Don't try to do the lot in heels. Behind the barn sits a small play area for children that we found quite functional. Remember to READ what you are signing up for though because there is a lot of clean ups you will be responsible for, you turn everything back over the way you got it. It's totally old school, but with modern amenities such as flat screen TV, mini fridge and microwave, and multi-plug charging station. The air conditioner is whisper quiet and the bed and pillows are just the right level of soft. There is a freezer with ice outside. Since the bathroom sink is so tiny, it's hard to refill a bike water bottle or CamelBak bladder. Turn around and use the bathtub. Problem solved. I got to meet Scott, the owner, and some of his employees and they are all super friendly. He enjoyed telling me about the attention he received when he and his motel were featured on the front page of the KC Star in 2015 (the article is posted under glass at the front desk so take a look when you check in), and how he is happy to host bikers from the trail and hopes to see more as the trail expands. The motel is just a 100 yards or less off the trail, across the street from Sonic. It's also an easy 10 minute walk into town to some of the other restaurants. Look forward to staying here again.
