My husband and I recently went to John's Auto Sales to look at cars. While they did not have what we were looking for, Paul V was incredibly helpful. He drove us to a separate location that held much of their inventory and let us drive all the cars we desired. There was no pressure to buy anything and he steered us away from cars that weren't a good fit. I wish I could have bought something from John's. Unfortunately, he did not have the car we needed. Everyone was great and John personally took his time to speak to us at length. I see many complaints about the look of this place. If you want something that looks beautiful, go to Carmax and pick out a car. If you want an inexpensive car that runs, then check out John's. read more

If you are stepping into this place alone and don't know very much about what a good car is... Don't go here. I went alone, and I must be really stupid b/c I walked in asking for a small used car that was good on gas... and they sold me the largest car on the lot (a tank that costs 80 bucks to fill), with 100K miles on it. After the interest this truck would have ended up costing 14K. I thought about it before I drove off the lot and they insisted that since I signed papers "technically I bought the car". The bank called the following week to ask me about the loan I applied for. I told them I was very uncomfortable with the vehicle and the payments were too high... They didn't grant me the loan (which was a relief), and I took the truck back. They were very unhappy at John's Auto Sales... and kept trying sell me another car to replace the one I didn't like. They kept me there for two hours. I finally went out to the vehicle and took off the plates and left... But this was after they insisted I owed them $300.00 because "they paid my registration". Meanwhile I gave them $1000.00 of a down payment for this car. (which I had returned in excellent condition). I should get $600+back from the canceled insurance... and the $300, for the registration I consider paid for out of my own down payment (and I won't get back).... I turned in the plates, and canceled the car which was insured for about 4 days. To make a long story short. These used car salesman are slimy. and it was a horrible experience that made me very sick for days. They can pretend they are trying to do you favors, but they are not to be trusted. When I decided I wanted to sell my car I went on Kelly Blue Book for a valuation and was recommended John's Auto Sales. Someone from his office made contact immediately and discussed the valuation and was extremely friendly. The next day I went in to see John and sold my Toyota RAV4 for a price that was more than reasonable and right in line with KBB valuation. I needed to sell my car because I was moving somewhere with abyssal parking. I thought I'd do it the informed way and listed it on Craigslist, Autotrader, KBB, (ads were about a month run) and got it quoted from CarMax, City Motor Group, as well as John's Auto Sales. The key thing is you can't do this in a rush or you'll get ripped off. So don't bother driving all the way to CarMax, sell your car to John's. Seriously, they were really nice and offered me the same deal as CarMax. I didn't bargain for more than the CarMax deal because hell, I'd rather give my money to a local business anyway. City Motor Group quoted me 2.5K lower. Yes, you can get more through a private sale, but I accepted and cut my losses. They offered what the KBB stated my car would be in a good condition (and my car did have bodywork done). At least I walk away with a check, they paid off the rest of my car loan, got a free ride home, and they canceled my plates for me. Woooot! I purchased a vehicle from here a few years ago. I got a rediculously high interest rate, and had to make weekly payments! But I was younger and stupid, so i agreed to it. Anyway, the real problem was the car. It was only a couple of years old, but looked brand new inside and out. Only had 20k miles on it also. After about six months, winter came, and the I tried the 4x4, and it did not work. Shortly after that, the check engine light came on.( the car was only 2 years old!) I brought it to my friend, who is an excellent mechanic, and he basically said " band-aids and duct tape " were keeping the transmission working! I then brought it to a mechanic i didnt know, and he said the same thing. Basically it needed a new transmission, and both mechanics Also said the car appeard to have had serious water damage, to the point where the engine/ transmission were probably sitting under water! I had my friend clear the ckeck eng light, and drove to the closest REAL dealership and bought a new car, at half the interest rate I had from johns. Then paul had the nerve to call me a YEAR later, saying i owed them 500.00 for some fee they forgot to charge me. Unbelievable! I obviously didnt owe them anything, and after re-checking, they said they made a mistake. DONT GO HERE. The first vehicle I purchased from John's Auto aka THE PIT STOP!!! Which was a 2006 volkswagen passat 2.0t in September of 2015. It got me through it all... RAIN, SLEET and treacherous SNOW STORMS being I work for a company that takes no days off. And I enjoyed every moment of my rides too and from work. But as of May 19th and my family expanding and my wife said it's time to get rid of the luxury car and get something spacious like a 7-8: passenger SUV. So these guys AND GIRLS have truly out done themselves by guaranteeing to me that I would not be leaving that lot without driving away in a new vehicle. Mind you our conversation was over the phone... I couldn't believe that after two years they still remembered me and my wife. Oh yeah Did I mention she's the one who recommended me to go to them in the first place. Since that's the location she bought her first vehicle. LITERALLY!!! Her first EVER vehicle. A 2009 Honda Pilot Back in 2013 and it's still running like a champ. I must say the way they treated me from the moment of arrival to the moment of my departure. Which was the same day. AVOID IF SELLING YOUR USED CAR I can't speak for their repair expertise. I only came here to sell a used car. I no longer needed it for commuting as my job moved within the city. Now, I expected to get "sold", to a degree, but in my opinion they took it a bit too far. Before I went here, I took my car to CarMax to get an baseline for it's worth. Next we took it to John's. They low balled us. Big time. I accept the car wasn't perfect, but it drove very smooth, had brand new (expensive) tires, and minimal cosmetic flaws. One thing wrong was the check engine light was on. I had my mechanic buddy look it over. He ran a full diagnostic, pulled the codes and found it needed a new mass airflow sensor. He told me it was minimal, and an easy/inexpensive fix. The manager at John's looked it over, ran the codes for himself, then proceeded to start exaggerating about the amount of money it would require to fix the few minor things wrong. It doesn't cost excess of $500 to replace a mass airflow sensor. He even had the audacity to invent new potential problems that could come from other codes, which I already knew was related to the mass airflow sensor. Amazing! He didn't quit there though. He proceeded to make outrageous claims about how difficult it would be to sell, and how he knew people with this type of car and they are nothing but problems/unreliable. Interesting because every place on the internet I looked, said it was one of the best cars to own. Hmm. The guy at John's pulled out every shady tactic to get me to sell my car for much less than it's worth. In the end, I sold it a few days later for $1,500 more than they quoted. I went to this dealership after speaking with Kevin on the phone. He assured me he would get things done and get me and my family into a reliable car. I had a lot of anxiety and didn't think we would get approved. Our first trip was Saturday and we test drove a few cars we liked and picked one out the one and got the approval. Of course it was Saturday so they said they would know more on Monday. Monday came and I didn't think it would get done but again Kevin reassured me that they have been in business for a long time and him and malcon would make it happen. As the phone rang I thought they were gunna say sorry we can't help but Kevin was like we worked hard on this and your approved we headed to the dealership and drove our car home within 2 hours. Their team did so good and were so attentive and did exactly what they told me they were going to do even with all the questions I had (there were a lot of questions) There was no bullshit involved. I paid $8,000.00 for a 2010 Mercedes C300 in December 2020. This was the biggest mistake I have ever made and have the biggest regrets! I was sold a absolute lemon. I had to take the care to a Mercedes dealership to find out exactly what was wrong with the car and found out there was more wrong with the car than what it was worth! I sent the car back 4 separate occasions and had Rocco assist me. Rocco was nice the first 3 times and finally realized when I returned it the 4th time that he/service was not going to fix it. I did not purchase a car here yet I had an awful experience. Joey called to inform me of my credit report (which I already knew was poor) and left me an accidental 3 minute voicemail. In that voicemail he stated me credit score than proceed to yell "we have had anything over fucking 500 in a week" amongst other poor things said about customers in the store. I then returned his phone call asking about a cheaper car in which he asked for a ridiculous payment upfront. When asked the reasoning since it seemed a little odd. I went to John's auto sales to look into a 2011 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport. I was contacted by Shy initially about looking at that vehicle and she was pleasant and wanted to make sure that when I came, I would go straight to her and avoid the salesmen. I liked this, knowing car salesman, I'd like to avoid talking to them at all costs. I replied to her email about my day to visit and the time I'd show up. I Left a voicemail on her phone the day of and went on my way to Somerville, MA. Which is a 2 hour trip for me, by the way. I arrived and was told to wait for Shy, I think she was on the phone with another customer. After the wait, I was ushered into her office, away from the busy front end of the sales office. Shy is welcoming, kind, understanding and pleasant to deal with; not to mention easy on the eyes. All fun aside though, to my dismay the Mitsubishi was sold two days before I came down. Shy wasn't told of this, so I wasn't notified; she felt horrible! In order to make up for this, She asked me exactly what I was looking for in a car. Granted, I'm a car guy. I'm picky about what I want and what I'm getting, and what deal. She took down what I was looking for and why; we combed through their entire listing inventory, going through with "yes or no". She pulled several cars from their back up lots, just so that I could look at them. She was making everyone run around just to get me a car I'd want to go home with. We finally found a 2011 Hyundai Santa Fe Limited that had all the bells and whistles that I wanted; we went and test drove that for a while. It was a thorough test drive too, Shy came with me and she tested out the car with me. We looked all through the car, pushed all the buttons, looked into what was wrong with it too. We noticed the brakes needed repairs, the bumper needed some body work, tires needed balancing and etc. She assured me, that if I wanted this car that those things would be taken care of for me. We went back and sat down in her office again, she called the Owner John. Mind you, He was on his way home from Vacation. And she got me approved that they would take in my trade and pay off my existing loan; No Other dealership would do that with my trade!! We then talked about financing, She got me approved for a loan for the Santa Fe. She then didn't like it enough, she went and talked to their finance guy and got an even better loan with an even lower APR for me. I signed for that car, that day. I took delivery of that car a week later. The car was all fixed, brakes were great! Bumper looked brand new! Tires were balanced! and they put in a new battery too!! Not to mention, they drove the car to me, surely I met them at a decent middle ground, but come on.. delivery of a car is awesome! I've been to a handful of dealerships in NH, VT and MA.. No one would give me a deal that worked best for me.. It was always for the dealership. But Shy made the difference and gave me a better experience than those other dealerships. If you Go to John's Auto Sales, Ask for Shy!! She will get you set up and on your way with a better car than you came in with!! Always do your research before any car sale, I highly recommend it! BEWARE OF THIS DEALERSHIP!. We had the absolute worst experiece this past year with a car we bought here. In November of 2012 we bought a 2004 Porsche Cayenne and have had nothing but problems with it since. Less than a month after we bought the car, the ENGINE WENT and we had to replace the enginge! iT WAS A NIGHTMARE. John pushes purchasing the warranty and I am sure there is a reason for that. We had the engine replaced and it took about six to eight weeks to go through the warranty company, find an engine and have it done. Then in the late Summer of this year, not even a year after we bought the car, and less than six months sine the engine issue the A/C and Heating system stopped working. We found out the repair would be over $1000 and not covered under the warrany. We paid it as we had no choice, however, after dishing out 1K the COMPRESSOR then went which was covered under the warrant after some haggling. Had this fixed and yet The Heating System still does not work AND NO ONE CAN FIGURE OUT WHY. Cleary we were sold the biggest LEMON of a car from this dealership. John just washed his hands of all of this. In fact he made an appointment with my husband to trade in the car for another car, as we haven't driven the Porsche since early November, and my husband arrives in SommervillE on time and John is no where to be found. He waited 5 hours and finally he was told John was at an auction in RI, just blew us off. DO NOT BUY HERE, very shady dealership. Both times, the staff bent over backwards to help us. Answered a ton of questions, let me test drive whatever I wanted and worked with me to help stay in my price range. When it came to financing the vehicle, they made sure I got the absolute best deal. As far as getting your car serviced after the purchase, it was never a problem. I purchase a Ford f250 the first week started having problems the bed was coming off and had problems with the door not looking, took it it to the service department after the 3rd time it seemed to be fixed, a few months passed same problem I went to another mechanic found put they used a 2x4 to screw the bed instead off fixing it the correct way, so I called in and complained basically was given the run around so I canceled the extended warrantee I had purchased with them and was told that the money would go to the bank that I had financed with, called the bank the money never was sent to them, every time I call in to the dealer they keep saying the person that handles it not in, so desapointed that will meet go back or recommend anyone else read more

We were attended to right away, they inspected the car, did a carfax check on my car, took a test drive, finished the paperwork in a short time and also gave us a ride to the T-stop. It was literally "Cash for your car". I listened to a friend of mines that said he bought like 3 cars from this place and the cars were ok vehicles for the price. So, I took a chance and put down $2k on a SUV. It looked nice on the inside/outside, 57.9k on odometer. I never thought I would finance a car in my life and I did. I thought my credit was terrible and noone would take me serious. Well, John did and I am glad he did because I bought a car from him, kept it for 8 months and then traded it in for a 2019 Jeep! Happiest woman alive now! John was cool he tried and did his best, he fixed me car 6months into contract. The car was in no condition to sell to anyone though, it had a lot of problems. I didn't have a man with me so I got handed a raw deal. 8k left on that old vehicle but at least now with a 2019 I can rest my heart that I won't be broken down somewhere on a dark road. Hi, I went to John's in search of a Jeep Liberty, I put a deposit down on jeep I really liked. However it took me longer than expected to get my financials together. When I went to get it it had been sold. They felt very bad and John said he would find me a Jeep and I would not leave there unhappy. A few days later he called and said they have a jeep that I might like. I went to work in indeed I loved it. It did not have two things however if that were very important to me. When being Bluetooth , the other being remote start. They said they would put them in an no charge. I was very happy with my service at this place. He also took some money off the car. I have never been so disrespected and disgusted in my my life. I went to buy a car when I go to test drive it the finance guy has taken it home. Not just once but twice. When my husband ask why he continues to drive the car after we left a deposit to purchase it. He gets into an agrument saying my husband has no right to ask him about anything. Then I go to pick up the car after my husband test drove it and the car was suppose to be there by 4pm ready cleaned and serviced. Car didn't arrive till 6pm. Car was not service car had no gas, no oil and not even a drop of wiper fluid but yet I waited 2hrs for it to arrive, and was told it was at the mechanic since 9am that morning being serviced. I was ask if I wanted to keep my plates from the car that I traded in, I said yes. But when I was given the car they told me I couldn't keep my old plates. So now almost 2 months later I still have not received a receipt stating my plates have been returned to the registry. I just called and spoke to Mark in finance and he yelled at me was extremely rude when I ask if there was a chance my plates were on another car. Which is not a stupid question seeing the register has not contacted me. Except for saying I owe for a toll that I never went through. He accused me of disrespecting him. Started raising his voice and calling me out of my name. I have never been treated so terrible. This is my second time purchasing from John this time around its all new staff. Naturally the car we were planning to look at wasn't actually there. Not sure if they stole the photos or were just reposting old ads. Most cars on the lot were either trashed or ridiculously overpriced. The office seemed to be an odd mix of employees and heroin addicts. My daughter bought her 1st car, she was happy about some of the experience but thought the communication could have been better. Her plates were not ready so they accommodated her by dropping them off at my work. Again this is a used car lot, they sell affordable cars. My daughter spent $4000. Tried to do a good cop/bad cop routine on me in the back office to get me to buy a car with really high interest, and then tried to pull some stuff on me with some dodgy numbers that l was able to figure out. I have some credit issues and I had been too a few dealerships and was told that John's was good for people trying too rebuild credit. I was honest about my situation upfront which is where I think I went wrong. (I modified my mortgage and it hurt my credit score) Before getting any of my credit information the sales man told me I could only get approved for one car on their lot. It was a dented, hideous, high mileage Chevy Malibu. I asked if I could look at other cars in the same price range and was pressured and told "no". They said the bank would only approve me for this one car. I asked how they knew that as they hadn't even run my credit yet, and the salesman said he had a lot of experience and was certain and he didn't want to waste any of my valuable time looking at cars I'd ultimately be declined for. I left and thank god I did, I found out later that they were asking $5,000 above the blue book value for that Malibu! No wonder he wanted me too buy it so badly! These guys are con artists. This outfit has gone down the toilet just like the people that work there. I have bought 3 cars from John's Auto and I will never buy, refer, or go into Johns Auto in Somerville, MA again. After reading this you have been warned. Sure we are all subject credit if we are going to Johns but does that mean we don't deserve service, honesty, and standing behind the cars that they sell? The last car I bought was a BMW X5 and once I got the car home the brakes, thermostat, coolant pump, alignment, no jack or pump for the spare and on and on. I called John's Auto and they kept saying we ordered the jack or pump, we want you to bring the car in for service but we can't fit you in-I would call and Paul would answer and I would ask for Paul and the person on the phone, who was Paul, would say he wasn't in. I would ask for John and he wouldn't be in for 2 months! I emailed Rocco 42 times and the first email was answered the other 41 were not over 3 months. Now I have spent $5000 in safety repairs that I am suing them for. DO NOT USE THIS LYING, NON SERVICE, NO INTEGRITY OUTFIT. There are plenty of other quality dealerships you can go to. read more

I came here to sell my car; I dealt with Paul, who was fast, friendly, reasonable, and professional. The initial offer wasn't high, but that's true anywhere you go, and they were willing to listen to reasonable arguments. No fussing here. Would recommend to anyone selling. I bought a used car here in 2007. (although I bought it at the one across from Target on Somerville Ave). I had gone to this particular dealer because they came highly recommended and they actually knew many people I work with. Plus, they had the car I wanted for the right price. I had a few requests before I bought the car. The two main concerns i had were that 2 windows were not operational and that the keyless entry thing did not work. They fixed the windows but kept telling me to come back for the keyless entry issue. Within weeks of buying this car the engine light came on. I brought it back to them to fix it and it went off for a few days. After a few days the light went back on (and they had still not fixed my keyless entry). I brought the car back and told them I didn't want it, take it back. They talked me out of it, gave me a loaner car and kept the vehicle for a week to fix it. When i picked it up, the engine light was off, the car was running fine but they still had NOT FIXED THE KEYLESS ENTRY!! At this juncture it was past the point of returning it without a bunch of hassle and I needed a car. Of course, after a week the engine light came back on. For the duration of the time I owned the car, the light would only go off if I had a mechanic shut it off (like when I needed an inspection sticker). It never seemed to affect how the car ran but it was really annoying to have to ask people to shut it off so I could get a sticker. After 6 months both of the back doors had operational issues. You had to play with the locks to get them to open. Big safety issue seeing as I have a young child and if we were ever in an accident the delay in getting him out could have been a VERY VERY BAD THING. After a year the car needed all sorts of major work. I was told multiple times by multiple mechanics that I had been sold a lemon. When I went to buy my new car I traded this car in. When the dealer pulled up the Carfax on the vehicle it showed that the car had been totaled a year before I bought it. The new dealer asked my if it was displayed on the title that the car had been totaled in the past. It was not. I was told that it is a STATE LAW that this little tidbit of info be displayed on the title. So not only did John's Auto sell me a lemon, they sold me a totaled vehicle that they bought at an insurance auction and illegally messed with the title so that it did not indicate the car had been totaled. Are you kidding me??? These people KNEW I was putting a BABY in that car....How could you...?!?!?! I had though about writing a review regarding my experience with this place but never had the time. I also felt like I was way to lenient with them in not demanding that they take back the car as soon as I started experiencing issues with it. I took some of the blame. In light of the Carfax/title debacle I feel like I must let people know what happened here. I NEVER NEVER NEVER would have put my child in that car had I know it had been totaled. If there was an option to give this place no stars I would. Get a CARFAX!!!! DO NOT TRUST OTHER PEOPLE'S OPINIONS OF A DEALER!!!! Watch out for these guys, they're all enthusiastic to rob you off your money! They get all friendly with you and convince you to make a down payment towards a car assuring that it is refundable and they don't honor their promises. I made a down payment of $2000 towards a used 2003 Porsche Boxster about two weeks ago and applied for financing through them. The loan was approved at an outrageous rate of 19.99% subject to condition that I put down another $1775 + sales tax. I clearly told them that I can't afford the loan and asked them to refund the $2000 and after agreeing verbally as well as through emails, they keep stalling and misleading me saying that it will be refunded the same day. I've been going through this hell for the last two weeks. I'm requesting everyone else - Do not fall into their trap! They will rob you off your hard earned money and keep quiet as though haven't done anything wrong. Whatever you do, DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE or you will regret it! read more
