Never will I forget the bone chilling scream of my son in my wife's arms. Staff was of little assistance. The so-called manager, "Liam" was violently drunk. He was telling me that the supposed assailant had fled the scene, then a moment later, "he was in handcuffs, downstairs". It was evident who actually threw the glass. This particular individual was merely trying to dissimulate the situation. We received no official apology from the establishment. We left feeling sick and confused. The owner(s) were nowhere to be seen, although, reading these reviews it seems that this "Liam" was indeed the owner. Wonderful. How could this happen to us? How could this happen to a child? And how can a person get away with such abhorrent behaviour? These were questions that haunted us and which lead me to write this review. To all potential customers, I would recommend you look elsewhere for an evening pint. I tend to believe that most people would not support this cowardly act. To the James Joyce Pub, I expect an apology. I can be contacted by email, facebook, instagram and whatsApp. There is no excuse. To my son, I apologise that I could not protect you.

My colleagues and I stumbled upon The Smoking Dog and couldn't pass up giving it a try. What a fun place. The interior is just very cool. Got that classic but quirky combination that makes for a great pub. There was a soccer game going on and the patrons were very very into it. That added to the fun atmosphere. The beers is one of those trendy places, with good vibes, staffed as well with young people who could converse in English - however they don't have much of craft beer ( special beer ) here. Some from the neighbouring Belgium is here, and they have Brewdog beers but the rest are probably the familiar names, apart from the mainstream pilsner that they are probably proud not to have in here. The food - They make everything in house. Nothing is refrigerated so everything is made fresh daily. The burger I got, the Classic Bacon Burger, is one of the, if not the best, burger I have had so far. Here's the kicker. While their burger is that good, the fries is probably one of the worst I've had. The fries were soggy and not crunchy, like what happens to potatoes when it's fried in oil that's not hot enough. It boiled in oil, not fried. Everything else is really good. Bun is good and not like "white bread" and mushy. Patty is good, not too thick, too juicy, not greasy, with good seasoning. The lettuce was green and crunchy. The onions we're caramelized well. The sauces were really nice and flavorful. Ketchup and mayo were even made in house. But those soggy fries... man. They just need to get some good crispy fries and it would have been a perfect meal. Otherwise, the burger is great. Five stars because of that. The Place - Typical of EU restaurants, it's small. The Service - It was good. Soggy fries came out pretty late in the meal. I was halfway through my burger before it came out. I think fries should come out with burger. It's like getting your sides halfway through eating your main meal. Overall, even with the soggy fries, I would still recommend going to Les Frangins for their burgers. I'd like to go back a few years from now to see them still there, hopefully have grown, and with crispy fries.
