This is a super cute 50s style dinner with great food. We had chicken green chili omelet, chocolate chip pancakes, breakfast sampler platter, and biscuits and gravy. And they had real old fashion cherry and vanilla coke! They serve breakfast, lunch, desserts, and milk shakes. It is about a mile from down town but still an easy find and worth the effort. Doing well under Miss Pat's leadership, but have found even in the best well-oiled machine, an occasional item slips up. Found the breakfasts are still great, the Cobb salad a delight, but cannot recommend the fried chicken--tough and way over cooked. Will continue my patronage as there are still great items on the menu as exemplified by the huge crowds still there at eight o'clock at night! read more

We found this place on 4th of July. It was one of only a few places open. We had GREAT service and good food. Our food came out a little on the cold side, which was strange as it seemed very fast. But it was delicious. We both had biscuits and gravy with eggs and potatoes. My potatoes were a little underdone, but it was probably the beat biscuit I've had. Fluffy and flaky, yum. We also had a hot and fresh pecan roll straight from the oven. Our service was fantastic. I really think the milkshakes here are where it's at though. I didn't have one but several other tables did and they were huge and looked super tasty. read more

Awesome home baked pies of all sorts. Fresh hot coffee. Lot of great 60's menu items. Just stopped in for some Apple pie ala mode and some coffee after driving from Colorado Springs. Heated pie, cold ice cream, hot and fresh coffee. Ahhh!!!! Music is playing from the 60's, people enjoying their burgers, fries, Nathan dogs, pies, Elvis burger, shakes and malts galore, etc. Wow! Wish I had more room to eat more. Had to take some Strawberry Rhubarb pie back to the hotel for my wife. We'll stop in on the way back from Montana. Yikes!!! Love it. Life is good. read more

A good start, but a miserable finish to this meal. This was a random stop before a long drive to another city in Wyoming. The pot roast was raved about by the waitress/salesperson and that is usually a safe choice at a diner. The meat did not look like pot roast, but the first four strips were tender and very tasty and semi melt in mouth. The last two big pieces of meat though were inedible, fatty, tough and downright "how could you put that on a plate and serve it" The mashed potatoes were lumpy in a bad sort of way and the carrots and celery that came with the dish did not seem to have been cooked with that pot roast. The vanilla coke had no vanilla taste and ya know this diner food is probably good enough for the boring people of Casper's palette's, but anybody from the other 49 states should keep on driving past this divey diner. read more

Every single thing about my experience at Johnny J's was memorable. The decor was authentically diner decor, which I appreciate as someone who grew up going to diners. The food. Oh my god. The food was so good. I had chicken-fried chicken, with mashed potatoes and fried okra, and I could not have been happier with my meal! And the oreo milkshake was simply out. of. this. world. But really, truly, the thing you'll find at Johnny J's that's so special, and why it really merits a detour, (and a thus-far nonexistent sixth star) was the service. The place was run well, which is nice and all, but truthfully, the whole staff was delightful, kind, inviting, and thoughtful. I interacted most with two servers named Shannon and Cassidy. They were both fantastic as people and incredible as servers. There is a sweetness, and a love that clearly emanates from this fantastic diner. And while it's true, that the food is very good (very, very good), it is the incredible service here that makes it so memorable. If you are in Casper, you MUST go to Johnny J's. And if you aren't, start hauling ass and get there, because you have no idea what you're missing. read more

This place is hit and miss, they will bring your order fast but the food itself is subpar (below my standards). If you're sat by an elderly woman than your service will most likely be bad. Manager that's been working there her whole life is loosing her touch. I think it might be time for new oversight. read more

This is a very busy place for lunch. Took a good 15 minutes to get seated. Servers were fast and friendly so I'd give this place a 3.5. I had the burger with green chili. The burger was a bit dry for my taste and the green chili really didn't have any flavor. Granted I like spicy green chili. The French dip was very good and the onion rings were amazing. Really had a great time at this traditional 50s style diner! The staff was amazingly hospitable, and made us feel more welcomed than we have at any restaurant, ever. It was as though we were regulars instead of out-of-town travellers. We got there just after 5pm, and it was packed within a half hour - glad we got there early! Our food was delicious, and what a lot of choices. A cool selection of burgers, and sandwiches that you rarely see in restaurants these days. I wish I could come in every day to sample a new meal. Location and atmosphere are fantastic. The menu is somewhat surprising in that they have more than the typical burgers and milk shakes that you'd expect at a 50's style dinner. The chicken parmesan for example is quite good. As for they rest of the food, I've never had a bad meal here. It's all good as far as I can tell. It's often very busy, especially for breakfast. Service is usually pretty good but for some reason every time I've ordered a malt or a shake, it takes forever. I don't know what the deal is with that. read more

I was looking forward to eating here, when I saw the building. I first ordered the combination player and substituted the mushrooms for more jalapeño poppers. We never received it and the waiter had no answers. I ordered the chicken fried chicken with mashed potatoes and fried okra. The potatoes were cold, the okra was soggy and the chicken was more like over battered fried chicken. Then we ordered dessert and you guessed it, waiter got that wrong too!!! Heading back from TX to WA with the RV we just purchased we read the positive reviews of this place. We'd like to add ours. I don't know about you, but when we hit the road, we include meatloaf/chicken-fried steak with mashed potatoes and green beans on our food-to-look-for list. And preferably in a diner. It's asking a lot but Johnny J's delivered. It really was amazing. It was everything that we were looking for and it all seemed to fall in place: diner, food, and good service. Chicken steak was good (a little too much salt), the meatloaf was one of the best I've had. Excellent mashed potatoes with brown gravy for the meatloaf and white gravy for the chicken steak (wow!). Pat, the manager, came to our table, saying she was told that we were passing through and asked how everything was. After our chat she returned to the table with Shepard's Pie filling that she thought was the best they've done and wanted us to take some home so we could add the mashed potatoes to the top. We left completely satisfied with another dinner waiting for us when we get home. read more

You earned it the chicken fried steak was bomb. Bomb is great. This was a great surprise thanks yelp community I'm here for the day from billings. The green beans I don't do healthy I got a extra dish man that was beyond good. Then pie time had the peach. Tasted like a fresh picked not sweet it was fantastic. The crust super flakey. .
