I am writing this review to share my experience, but also offer some much needed advice to Joanne as a business owner. I was a bridesmaid in a wedding this weekend and this is where we all went to get our hair done. Joanne was nice upon first meeting her. When she was working on my hair, she went to turn me around in the chair and somehow got the large curling iron tangled up, causing it to fall on my arm and cause a 2nd degree burn (it was red and very painful and by the time I got back to the wedding venue, I had blisters and the skin was purple). I walked down the aisle with a bruised arm covered in ointment. What bothered me most about this situation was the way she handled it. The moment after it happened, she made a comment that "oh, you moved!" Essentially right away blaming me for what happened. There were other people present who saw what happened and know that it wasn't anything that I did. I ignored the comment. She did really seem to feel bad, but do you think she helped me in any way? She grabbed me a wet paper towel to put on the burn, which did nothing. Funny thing is, the salon is located in the back of a home, I'm assuming hers. Do you think she ran up front to her freezer to grab me some ice? No, I had to run to the store right after to purchase first aid cream, bandages and ice. She then proceeded to say constantly how sorry she was and how she couldn't believe she did that. It got to a point of making things very uncomfortable. I mean, how many times do I have to say, "that's ok" and "don't beat yourself up". What struck me most, was when it was time to pay for services. I was actually quite taken aback when she didn't offer to comp my fee, or at least give me a major discount! Joanne, as a business owner, it is very important to make things right with a customer. So you would have made a few dollars less that day. But you may have had more referrals in the future and a much better review at the end of the day. For such a tiny town, it's actually surprising that there are 3 other salons besides Joanne's. Since you have a choice, you may want to consider one of the others. I have to be honest, the hair do itself wasn't all that great either. Not long after we got back, all of my hairpins were falling out as well as the braid that she did. And the updos on the other girls were a bit old school. read more

Joanne is the color expert. I have gone to get my hair done there for a long time and wouldn't go anywhere else. She really knows how to make you look your best. Suzanne works with her and can cut mens hair very well. I would tell anyone to try going here. She is a lot of fun, they compliment each other well. read more

I am actually from "down below" and came to Joanne on recommendation from others. I have a short style that requires lots of work - IE I see her almost every two weeks. I have never experienced anything like what Elaine in RI expeirenced. In fact, Joanne has gone above and beyond to accommodate me with my busy schedule. and has even fed my 9 year old daughter from HER HOUSE FOOD when she was hungry. She is a true gem. Easy to get along with, an instructor for Paul Mitchell and knows her stuff well. I've really enjoyed having her as my stylist. I think people need to take bad reviews with a grain of salt and really look to see what the person is saying - for Elaine shes had one bad experience and thinks its ok to negatively review someone with one star after not even talking to the owner about her issue? A bit overreactive in my eyes. Trust Joanne for your color needs and hey, if you don't like your hairstyle, wash it out and start again - seriously its hair - it grows out. I am from CA and am no stranger to quality salons and spas. I wish to express my experiences with Joanne's Added attraction over the years and show the comparison in quality, professionalism, cost, and sheer ability of this Salon and its owner. I just came from Joanne's with a beautiful color, highlight, cut, hairstyle, and waxing. I paid half of what I paid for the exact same services in CA this past December. I have used other salons in the area in the past and have not been happy about the color, cut, or the simple fact that the hairdresser did not capture what I wanted in any way. I never went back. No matter what style or color I want, Joanne listens, offers advice, and delivers a spellbinding hairstyle that I am proud to walk out with. I have colored my hair burgundy, blonde, red, and various highlights. I've gone from asymmetrical short, asymmetrical bob, medium layered, long tapered, and long curly with body. Joanne has provided me with all of these fantastic hairstyles and colors. She has also fixed my many self inflicted color errors with tremendous professionalism. (No derogatory, embarrassing comments that I have received from other salons) She handles it very professionally, fixes the problem, and leaves me walking out feeling like a model. Joanne's knowledge has educated me on some of the top quality hair products that would be best for my hair. These products have accentuated my hair style and kept my color longer and more manageable. I have 3 daughters who have long hair and sometimes don't know exactly what they want. After they converse with Joanne, they come up with an idea and Joanne works her magic on my picky teens. They feel so special when the Abra-ca-dab-bra moment comes that even they don't want to go anywhere else. Joanne's Added Attractions have met and surpassed my expectations in style, color, cost, and professionalism. I trust Joanne with my daughters hair and social persona. I would have my husband go to see her, but he has nothing to cut as he is bald. But if she could make hair grow, I would have him see her. In 20 years I have never had an experience like the person from RI. I am disgusted that one person who only got a hairstyle, expected to be comp'd, and then complained that the bobby pins were coming out at a party, would then write a long, one-sided, single experience about a respected business like Joanne's Added Attraction. And how dare you critique the professionalism of a well established business that is booked constantly with long term loyal customers that have had over 100 visits with her. ( 5 times a year for 20 years) Some advice for RI. Look up the word professionalism, get a can of aqua net (super hold) and party away with your Jersey Shore hairstyle, before you think it is a good idea to slam a well respected long term business that isn't even in your state. You also did the same thing to another business because you got one bad apple out of an entire bag. GET a LIFE. read more
