I tried their veggie burger and it was so much better than similar burgers I've had from other places. The staff is really friendly and are very attentive. I will definitely be going back frequently. read more

The wife and I decided to go to JL beers in Grand Forks, North Dakota. It had a very long bar. The inside had about five long tables to seat people and had several TVs for a sports bar feel. I had the Ode to grapefruit American IPA it was smooth and delicious with a hint of grapefruit. We sat at a booth, but waited and waited for Service. 4 other folks came in and sat at the bar. They we're promptly served and actually had their food served to them before the server even came back to take our drink order. We then move to the bar where we were promptly served, drink orders with food. my wife and I split the Nashville chicken and a side of beer, cheese and fries. The Nashville chicken had a good taste however it was pretty thin the beer cheese fries were delicious. However they came out way after our chicken was served. I will give it a 5+ for the beer, A 3 for the food, zero for the Service if you're setting at a table and a three for the prompt, but not too friendly bar made. read more

The food from JL Beers never disappoints. From the burgers to the fries - even when we order out and bring it home! The service is always amazing and the inside of the restaurant is welcoming! No kiddos allowed so if you're looking for a kid free night - JL Beers is your spot! But if you do have kids - just place a pick up order and grab it! read more

This place was recommended for good burgers butttttt weird price aside, considering I've never seen someone charge for a tomato, the burger was not that great. It wasn't nasty, don't get me wrong, but it wasn't flavorful. I eventually opted for the Cajun sauce to put on there, but that wasn't that flavorful either. The Cajun sauce tasted like the ketchup Mayo combo with seasoning for decor. Bbq seasoned fries: I didn't eat the fries because they were a bit on the salty side. I usually like seasoned fries, but this was a bit much. It doesn't look like it, but the flavor is strong for fries. They move fast in there though, so I'll give them that. I came a little later than my group but they got me something out as close to the time they served my friends, so I appreciated that. $4 for a bottle of pure leaf tea? Okey. read more

Best Burger place in the Red River Valley. Service is quick and friendly. 21+ which has its benefits and drawbacks.

Burger was cooked perfectly, fries were a major disappointment. They tasted stale. I've been told after my visit to have the chips. It was packed, the bartender was very friendly. read more

Simple menu and LOTS of taps!! Freshly prepared fries and burgers on super soft buns make a yummy meal. They have tons of homemade toppings to choose from and they've created a wonderful place to enjoy delicious food with terrific beers. With all the TV's around it's a great spot to watch sports events!! It's a preferred spot for good burgers!! read more

Before trying out JL Beers, I was told this is the best burger place in Grand Forks, and it didn't disappoint. The burgers were amazing! My favorite part were the buns; so buttery and soft but toasted enough that it could hold the burger together. I order the coleslaw burger but added tomatoes for $0.79 and really enjoyed it. It was juicy and the burger patty itself was seasoned well. My table also ordered the bacon jam burger which they said was good (and it looked good too)! Service was great, too! My waitress, Jessica, checked in often enough but not too much. Our drinks were refilled at appropriate times and was always there if we needed anything. The ambiance was nice too! It is definitely more bar vibes than a sit down restaurant. I didn't try any of their beers, but they seemed to be popular with the other tables so it should be worth trying if you go. One thing I would have liked to have known before going was how pricing worked. The price next to the burgers is solely for the burger. No fries or chips. Those are an extra couple of dollars as is any addition toppings or sauces you want in the burger or for dipping. Just a heads up so you don't assume incorrectly like I did. This place is definitely worth a try if you want a great burger in Grand Forks with lots of options to choose from! read more

Went in with our newborn baby and sat at the back table with him on the inside set against the wall so he was over 3 feet from the bar. The waitress came and said we had to leave since they were 21+ only. We knew this already before we came but looked into North Dakota laws and found we are legally able to bring him in if he's with us, three feet from the bar, and it's before 10pm. This means it's the owner that isn't infant friendly since we were compliant with North Dakota law and liquor license. North Dakota Law 5-02-06. We were very disappointed in our treatment. read more

Best specialty burgers in the midwest. I routinely go to JL Beers for the burgers and fries. Totally Slawsome burger is my all time favorite burger. I wish they would adopt the smash burger though. Perhaps the specialty burgers with two smash patties instead of the one patty. The loaded fries (original fries) with beer cheese is could very well be my most craved food. An absolute must have when coming to JL. Finally, their chips are absolutely phenomenal. You can choose any of the seasonings and you will be pleased with your decision. they're fresh, warm and very well seasoned. Definitely worth a try. read more

It's almost exactly 2 years from my last stop since we are back in town for a couple weeks. I wasn't in the store long enough to smell the air if they corrected the grease smell. I did see a sign that they have a machine cleaning the air a few times an hour. Previously, we didn't have kids now we have 2 under 2 now, and we were turned away at noonish for lunch. I guess they label themselves as a bar. I thought it was just a normal brewpub kind of place selling burgers. In past experiences, these style of establishment would stop letting kids in after 8 pm kind of thing. Found it odd to turn us away for lunch. Oh well, no harm. Suggestions - Not kid friendly if you are looking for a new place to stop in. Moose Out read more

Great selection of draft beers and burgers. Service was great and our food came out really fast, even with a decent amount of patrons.

Great "Burgers & Beers" location. I was told ahead of time the burgers were fantastic and they didn't disappoint, I had both the Cheeseburger and regular Hamburger there and both were well prepared and tasted great. Also had a flight of beers which were loaded on a wooden tray with sampling glasses. The staff was both affable and customer service oriented. Great place to hang out with friends to watch the game. read more

Great burgers and fries... please get some TVs. I would return anytime without thinking twice.

Sorry no pictures because I wolfed down my Mt Mushmore burger and jalapeño cheddar seasoned fries like it was going out of style. Everything was delicious even if it was a thin burger. The burger was juicy, lots of Swiss and mushrooms. The fries are fresh and the jalapeño seasoning was great. I enjoyed my meal very much. read more

So, not what I expecting. Great place to catch a beer and food. I ordered the pretzel with the sauces provided they where both good. I got the Humpty Dumpty Burger....was a really great burger! Highly recommend it. The lines seem to move quickly through the place, lots of people drinking beer and eating food here. Very long bar, and some bench seating adjacent to the bar. Beer options were plentiful and I liked how they had them classed on me u. People where friendly as well. read more

JL Beers was suggested to me by a friend who went to school at UND - he said it was the best burger he'd ever had. While I can't agree with that, the burger was pretty darn good and I love the choices of flavor on the fries and chips. Dipping sauces are a huge plus, too. And prices? Great! Got the burger, fries, and dip for under $10 (but then I blew the budget by getting a growler of one of the sour beers to go). Staff here were absolutely fantastic - they were infinitely patient with my friend, who has a severe allergy and asked a ton of questions as to how the burgers are cooked. Thanks very much to the staff for their kindness and consideration in this area! read more

On food alone, this tiny little bar gets all the stars! The burgers are yummy, meaning so full of flavor they just melt in your mouth. We were seated where we saw the process of how they cook them happens. I was disappointed to see that the burgers seem pre-made, which is why I docked a star above. The large press comes down on multiple meat patties and cooks them like a large foreman grill. Then garnishes are applied, chips are added and the food comes out quickly to you in a basket. Don't forget to pair your burger with a local brew. Since I am not from this area, I had never heard of any of the beers. The server was somewhat helpful, but I really just randomly picked a few to try. I really can't even remember which one I liked. This is not a place for a vegetarian or non-beef eater. There are no alternatives, all burgers were beef. read more

In town for business wanted something near the hotel and came across this place. Lot of beer options and good burgers, sounds like my kind of place. Grabbed a seat at the bar and ordered one of their beers and was happy I did. If I wasn't traveling i would have grabbed a growler to go. Good burger selection and opted for the Bacon Cheddarpeno with fries. Can our quick and hot...oh and delicious. I was hungry when I walked in and this burger had no chance. Great bun, good flavor, really happy. Fries were hot and crisp. Great place and when I'm back in town I will be back! read more

Great Nutter burger! You can not go wrong with any of the burgers there! Great atmosphere!

A very wide selection of beers on tap and the prices were very reasonable with large portions.

Good food and cold beer . Friendly people to take your order . Great I recommend that you go give it a sit down .

I have a one star review based on no handicapped access. There are no low tables and there is a booth in the far back. Booths are not a low table. So, if you have mobility problems... take your money elsewhere. read more

I eat here once per month. The burgers and environment are consistently good.

I have never had a bad experience here! Love the food! I've tried different burgers and fry choices. I like the buff and bleu chips!

What a cool little place. Why it isn't bigger is a good question. Not very many tables. My mom and I sat at the bar and had one of the many many beers on tap and also the greatly priced burgers and fries. The bartender wasn't the most attentive he spent a lot of time talking to the waitresses versus waiting on the people. read more
