It wasn't too far of a drive from our little shop. We stopped in as a walk-in for my husband, he needed a cut bad before our conferences next week. Their pricing is quite interesting. It's $22 for walk-ins for any available hair dresser and $30 for a set time with a specified hair dresser. The cut was decent, pricing overall was good as well. I have been getting my hair cut at JJ's for over a year now, and I have always been very pleased with the cuts I receive. Unlike other places nearby, the environment at JJ's is classy and relaxed. The stylists take notes on your preferences and review them before your cut so that you are able to get a consistent cut no matter which stylist you have cutting your hair. When you enter the shop, you first sign in and then take a seat in a waiting area with magazines, style guides, and a TV with ESPN always on. When I have been in the shop, there have never been fewer than two stylists but there may be a wait of about twenty minutes or so. However, you are able to call ahead and schedule an appointment with a specific stylist. Although I have been making appointments with the same stylist for quite a while, I have been very pleased with the cuts I have received from each stylist there. JJ's, in its old location on 10-Mile used to be a place called Phyl's. When Phy'ls closed, JJ's came in and really cleaned the place up. From what I know JJ is actually the father of the owner of this location. The original shop is still standing strong in Troy. JJ's is a clean, modern, stylish men's barber shop. It's really a great place. I consider it to be the best barber shop I have ever been to. It's just a nice, well-run business with the friendliest owner ever. He's the guy who has the fancy barber chair next to the waiting area. I have been going to JJs since he opened up. If you're struggling to find a good barber shop in the Novi area, this is your solution. Honestly worst barbershop I've ever been to in Michigan told to wait 40ish mins wait hour and half and people that didn't even check in at all he said he didn't got served before me. What an amazing business plan to not retain new customers only maintain old customers hope this place goes out of business on God. While waiting with two barbers open and 3 people in lobby going over payment issues seems like that's something that you do when you close but i don't know how to run a business or anything. When you walk in no one really greets you as I've noticed from many past visits. Usually I get a decent haircut from here but the last visit the girl on the lower level to the right cut my hair. Was definitely expecting higher things from this based on the reviews at the time (5 stars), but had multiple negatives which include Waited 45 minutes on a Monday at 2 pm (albeit summer so maybe kids off from school) A person called in while I was there and one of the ladies who answered said no wait to the person, but then a guy answered to a walk in it would be 45 minutes not even 10 minutes later. Person who cut my hair managed to knick me with an electric razer on my neck and left a decent red scratch. The conversation was basically him asking questions with no feedback besides okay or yea with zero personality, comparable to internet chat bot And there pricing structure albeit sensible from an economics standpoint it mildly annoys me as you pay more if you want an appointment or pick you person. Although haircut was only $15 or this may have been a 1 star review. Overall hair cut was fine but just all the little things were wrong. read more

It's our official family barber! Great, family friendly atmosphere. No Hooters-esque cleavage or "locker room talk". ESPN is always on the tv and the staff keeps the chatter wholesome. Great cuts! The staff takes time to understand what you're asking for. And they're careful to confirm you're satisfied before you leave the chair. Usually a minimal wait (can't speak to Saturday afternoons - we only go on weekdays). But that can be avoided by making an appointment for a small fee. We're happy with anyone we see. But I'd recommend Josiah (manager) or his dad Joel (owner) - best to make an appointment to see them. Be sure to check out JJ's sister business Craft Education! Just down the hallway. After finding them on Yelp and reading the amazing reviews, I decided to give them a shot. I was a walk in so I put my name on the list and took a seat. There were two guys ahead of me but I was still helped within10 minutes of taking a seat. Joel was the one who helped me out and he was outstanding from start to finish. I went in with a rough idea of what I wanted and why I didn't think I was able to accomplish it, kinda hoping he's say "oh no, we can make that work", and he did. He described what I needed to do, what to use to make it work, and was overall very informative. They will definitely get recommendations from me and I'll be going there from now on. Finally. We found a barber in the area that gives good cuts in a nice atmosphere. We tried 4 other local barbers and kept ending up driving all the way to Dearborn to Ray's cuz we couldn't find a place out this way that worked for us. No long drive any more... JJ's has it all. Modern decor, clean bathrooms, ESPN on the tube. Best of all are the friendly stylists who ALL know what they are doing. Sometimes it's hard to get a pre-teen boy to tell you what they want in a haircut but every stylist there has been able to interpret what my sons want. It's cheaper to walk in (by 2 bucks) than making an appointment. The longest we have ever waited is about 10 minutes on a weekday or 20 minutes on the weekend. There is a door at the front under the blue awning or on the north side of the building. The ONLY improvement I'd suggest is to put a mirror in the Men's room. My son wanted to be able to look closely at his haircut without the stylist watching him which he couldn't do in the mirrors out on the cutting floor. read more

I took my 96-year-old father to get a haircut today. I parked in the handicap parking spot located near the entrance off Meadowbrook Road. The closet door was locked and a sign was posted to use the side entrance. Fortunately, a customer was kind enough to open the door to let us in. We sat down in the waiting area and after a few minutes realized that we were to sign in at the front counter. Three barbers watched us walk in and sit down. It would have been appreciated if one of them informed us to sign in. Upon signing in I was told there was about one hour wait but another barber was coming in shortly so it maybe sooner. Since my father uses a walker and it is difficult getting him in and out of the car, I decided to wait. Being a walk-in, we waited patiently for our turn. After waiting one hour & fifteen minutes, one barber finished his customer and proceeded to sweep all four stations and then discussed with the other barbers that he was going to lunch. I had the impression that none of the barbers were interested in cutting my fathers hair and we left. As we were getting into the car, the barber that was going to lunch yelled to us that we were next. A little late! If you use the main entrance you have to go up 3 or 4 steps, then once you sign in you have to go down 4 steps to see the barbers. This barber shop is definitely not handicap accessible. I have taken my father to get his haircut many times and have always been pleased with the treatment received but today was a different story. I would not recommend this place to any senior citizen or someone with limited mobility as I believe you would not be welcomed. Our usual barber shop is closed on Monday's so we decided to give this one a try. We will be returning to Novi Barber Shop on 10 mile. The ladies at Novi Barber Shop are excellent. read more

He also gave me advice on how to get the look I want. Best of all he was a great conversationist. My husband had his hair cut here while I waited and watched. We were the only ones in the small shop at first, then someone ended up coming in towards the end. My hubby's barber was a young guy and was very nice and friendly. They chatted the whole time and he made sure to ask my husband about different aspects of his haircut along the way to ensure he walked away happy.
