I thought it'd be pretty basic but it was actually very good. Lots of textures. I don't usually go for salad dressing but theirs was really tasty. My entree was vegetarian ramen. It was good but overly salty. I know ramen is always salty, but this was probably the saltiest I've had. It overwhelmed the flavors of the other ingredients. My dessert was a crepe cake and it was pretty good! Very light. The ambiance is super cute and nicely decorated. Unique, comfortable booths and tables separated by a bamboo style structure. It isn't a huge place, but the decor made it feel roomy even with all the tables around us filled. Our server was SO kind and sweet. We were feeling goofy and she put up with our wackiness. I had the opportunity to stop in for dinner with a friend. The space is light and bright and feels authentic and comfortable. Our server was very friendly and helpful with any questions we had. I've been following this spot on Instagram for a while. The volcano rice was a must have. The dish comes out on a hot cast iron skillet. Egg is poured around the rice and cooks on the cast iron. This was an amazing dish. The chicken is flavorful and juicy. The rice and veggies and egg complemented each other nicely. The miso ramen presentation was beautiful. The broth was flavorful, but could have had a little more heat. The noodles had a good texture and held up well in the broth. The appetizers were delicious as well. We came here for a late lunch as my spouse read that it was voted one of the best restaurants (in 2024) from St. Louis Magazine. We had high hopes. There was only one other table with diners. Our server was attentive. We got the Vegetarian Ramen, the Spicy Miso Ramen, the Jinzen Salad, Shrimp Tempura, and the Crispy Wasabi Mayo Prawns. The food was fine, nothing outstanding. Jinzen is such a treat! I went for a late lunch and could have stayed a while given how cute the interior dining area is. I came with a small group of girlfriends, just 3 of us. Our waitress got drink orders and water right away. She helped us choose complimentary soju and also appetizers that she knew we would enjoy. The food presentations are great! And of course everything is well seasoned and proportioned. We all took home doggy bags because the goal was to sample a large portion of the menu. Favorites were the garlic steak bites, the tempura veggies and shrimp and well as the bulgogi. The matcha tiramisu is the most perfect way to end this meal. It is perfectly balanced in flavor and texture and leaves you satisfied and ready to take on the world. Oddly enough, you really don't even need a palate cleanser after eating it! This was such a lovely lunch spot! I keep hearing about Jinzen and decided it was time to check it out. I went on a Friday afternoon and met a friend/ coworker and sat on the patio. It was a bit windy but we definitely didn't want to give up the opportunity to soak in the sunshine. The patio is cute and quaint, and I got a good outdoor cafe vibe. I was seated quickly and we were given the dinner menu and lunch specials. I ended up ordering the bulgogi deopbap and a Diet Coke. It was sooo good- veggies and meat were cooked deliciously and the rice was to perfection. I wish there was a bit more protein in the dish for the price- but overall it was fabulous. This is second time visit for us, I love how they have a vegetarian section on their menu and I will say their ramen is one of my favorites. It has good flavor with some different add ins. Their veggie tempura is also really fresh tasting. Only thing I will say is that the portion size could be a little bigger for the price. Cute atmosphere and always good service. read more

We tried out Jinzen and got a very Instagrammable location. There was aesthetic, but I am afraid it focused more on looks than taste. We tried the $5 Boba, which tasted more like chocolate milk to us than its traditional taste. The Takoyaki Octopus Balls were the highlight of the meal - flavorful and rare to see in the St. Louis area. We ended our meal with the pictured ramen, while picturesque it was a bit bland. It felt that the meal overall was made on the safe side for American palates instead of the more flavorful and spicy versions of authentic meals. The fact that I live 1.7 miles away from this place is amazing, and if you don't move closer! Lol, seriously, where do I start? This place is extraordinary. From the moment I walked into the place, Christy was offering some of the best customer service I've experienced in quite some time. She seated me, and while I waited for my friend to arrive, I took in the beauty of what this place is, a gem! It's well lit, and the place was spotless as far as cleanliness. The decor is beautiful! For food, we ordered the volcano fried rice, black pepper garlic steak bites, bulgogi rice plate, and mustard cucumbers. For drinks, we ordered a peach ramune soda, water, and green grape jinro. Yes, they do have their liquor license now. The food tasted great, and the only thing I wish was that the mustard cucumbers were a bit more cruncher. My mom would be proud of that statement! The non alcoholic drink( peach ramune soda) was good, and I appreciate Christy offering to open it for me because I was not sure how to pop it open. The jinro( alcohol) was pleasant for me because I'm a light drinker, but if you are someone who might want something a bit stronger, this might not be for you. Went here for the first time with no expectations and wow was I blown away. The atmosphere and the aesthetic inside the restaurant was very beautiful. Our waitress was very friendly and even explained the dishes for us. Friday lunchtime wasn't busy, and ramens served hot. I ordered veggie ramen with morel mushrooms came with deep fried veggies, everything was fresh and delicious. I also got Japanese Mont Blanc (chesnut puree dessert) to go, it was like eating clouds, it is certainly a light dessert. I like classic Mont Blanc better. For friday dinner time, reservation is a must. This place is small, has only 4-5 waiters and I see people waiting over an hour to get a table. My party was 5 people + a baby. I had a reservation and got our table right after arriving. Staff was helpful and they even upgraded our table to a more comfortable one. I ordered the same ramen this time and some parts were cold, broth was bland, eggs were not tasty, morel mushrooms were rubbery. My friend didn't like hers either and she wanted to order something else. A great spot in Clayton for those craving ramen for an affordable price. We enjoyed some hot stone dishes paired with Boba tea. Would recommend for a casual night out. The staff was friendly, and even though it was a busy Friday night, the food came out so fast (Our waiter even apologized for the wait even though we got our food less than 15 minutes after ordering lol). Aesthetics Matter... I love our dinners before going to the Fox. This time, we chose Jinzen in Clayton, Mo. It is beautifully decorated. Once you walk in, you're greeted with a pink floral ceiling. Everything is bright, light wood and accented with pops of color. They have a window of adorned with vegetation that's absolutely gorgeous. Ramen is tough for us, because we have to get vegetarian Ramen, and vegetarian Ramen is typically not as flavorful as beef and pork Ramen. The delights... I went with the vegetarian Bibimbap with tofu, and it was wonderful. The volcanic fried rice with tofu was unique. It was served on a bed of egg which I thought was creative. Good taste too. I went to try out new Asian restaurant in the Clayton area this weekend. I have to say the vibe and decor were so nice. It's such a good spot for a date night or special occasion. We had to do street parking but it wasn't too hard to find a spot. It gets pretty crowded on the weekend but it's first-come first-serve basis. They do take reservations however on weekdays. We went on a Saturday night and it was crowded but the wait was actually not too long. They have plenty of seatings inside which probably helped. In terms of food, I do like how they are presented. Everything looks so beautiful. We ordered 3 appetizers and some entrees. The crispy wasabi Mayo shrimp was my favorite out of all the dishes. For $12, you do get a decent amount of shrimp, which was pleasantly surprising. I didn't like the steak bites and squid karaage. In my opinion, the oyster sauce was too strong for the steak bite and the squid karaage lacked seasonings. For the entrees, I like the Volcano fried rice. It was flavorful and tasty. Spicy miso was pretty good but a little salty for my taste. Naengmyeon was okay and nothing special. You do get a big portion for the entree so definitely filling. Yelp recommended this new neighborhood gem and we loved it. We walked in at 1230, and the lunch rush was just winding down, there were only 2 tables available. The squid appetizer was light and flavorful, the Steak and garlic was served atop flames, and the drinks are house crafted. The decor is natural wood with sprays of flowers. For appetizers, we tried the sea cucumber mini dumplings. It was delicious! For mains, we had the spicy miso ramen and the volcano fried rice. Both the dishes were very good. The volcano fried rice was charred to perfection! They cook the eggs in the fried rice table side. For dessert we had the Japan Mont Blanc. It was light and creamy! The ambience is nice and welcoming. The service was prompt. We have also gotten takeaway from here and it was just as good as the dine in experience. There were 3 of us, and each of us got our main dish 5-7 minutes apart. This is the first time I ever had a problem with the food from Jinzen. Ironically, it was the first time getting carry out from them. The squid and popcorn chicken were very bland with no dipping sauce. The salads and volcano rice were great. I usually time tip something on carryout. After COVID every body thinks they should get tips on everything. I would love Jinzen to explain why they automatically put a 15% on my carryout order. We ordered the black pepper steak, squid karaage, and chicken skewers. We ended up getting a second order of the steak because it was amazing! My mouth is watering just thinking about it. The presentation was amazing! For our meal, we ordered the Tonkatsu Ramen and the Volcano Fried Rice. There weren't any specific flavors that popped, but the ramen texture was good.
