We were road tripping our way down I-10 and wanted to stop somewhere off the beaten path, non-chain, for lunch. Jingo popped up a few exits from us, so we went for it. The building itself looks pretty rough, which is par for the course when stopping in small towns for cajun food. They have covered outdoor seating for when the weather is nice, as well as tables and booths inside. You order at the counter, grab a seat, and wait for your food to be ready. Everything looked fresh cooked, since you can see the kitchen in the back from the order counter, and someone working away frying shrimp, fish filets, etc. The lady behind the counter was very friendly and accommodating. She walked our food out to us, came back checking on our meal, and even hunted down some hot sauce for us when we asked. We ordered the fried shrimp po-boy, fried pickles, popcorn shrimp, a couple sodas and something else seafood I can't quite remember. The total was close to $60 which kind of struck me, so the pricing is roughly $20 a person for entree and drink. I'd say the seafood is the main attraction, and everything else is filler. My po-boy had really bad bread, it wasn't fresh baguette, instead some kind of mushy white bread like a hotdog bun, but the shrimp inside was great. The popcorn shrimp was great. The fried pickles were great. Whatever the heck my wife ordered was also seafood and great. I also saw multiple tables ordering the seafood boil plates and digging in, so keep that in mind as another popular option. (at least during that lunch) This place won't win any fine dining awards, but they seem to have seafood down pat. Love jingos! Super friendly staff, gave my dog a treat at the window and asked how our day was going. Great prices, great food and you get a large portion! First visit here the staff was very friendly the price are like every where else a little pricey but that's the economy The menu is definitely cajun but I will have to try gumbo and étouffée on another trip. By far the most disgusting and pricey place I ever tasted. The crawfish etouffee was bitter and small portioned! For $10 I would have expected at least a bigger cup of rice to go with it. I waited 25 minutes paid $26 for bitter crawfish etouffee and a Philly steak served in a small hot dog bun! First time trying this place and it did not disappoint. Usually I try to steer away from fried plates because I feel like you lose some of that flavor and sometimes places over cook it. Tried this place for the first time. Wish I had tried it before now. Dine in, carry out and drive-through are all available. When you do the drive-through you order and simply park in the parking lot and they bring it out to you in about 10 to 15 minutes or call ahead and drive through and pick it up immediately. Everything was cooked to perfection. I'm from Louisiana, so I know how Seafood should be done. Lol. The Boudin balls to me tasted homemade, the fried shrimp and fish were fried to perfection. The boiled shrimp with potatoes was delicious. Probably the best seafood restaurant in Vidor, Texas. Nothing was disappointing to me. Yesterday I had ordered two of the gumbo, like I always do, but when I got it home it didn't taste right. It had a bad taste to it. I called and the lady that answered the phone said she would give me credit and was really nice about it. Well, I called this morning and talked to Matt about the issue and to make sure the credit was there. He said he would call the manager and talk to him and call me back. He called me back and basically told me they couldn't help me. I asked him to have his manager call me. Matt called me back and said they would give me more gumbo, which was good for me, I just wanted it to be made right. We spent a little over $21 bucks for a small bowl of gumbo that we couldn't even eat! Customer service is a big part of a successful business. Please remember that a happy customer is a return customer and the reason you get paid. I am very please with the way this turned out. The gumbo was spot on tonight. We stopped by at 7:40 pm on Sunday. The two teenagers started flipping chairs and turned my family of 5 away saying they were closing in a few minutes, so we got back in the car to go through the drive through. A car got in front of us and when we got to the window and we're in the middle of our order they told us that they had dumped all their food and were closed. They could have taken our to-go order in the store or let us know what they still had available. The Bayou Cafe took us in with a few minutes before they closed. One waitress walk to the back told someone something because the guy came look through a window. Came here just for yelp reviews. We ordered the 20 shrimp boil mild with added potatoes, corn, and sausage. We also ordered a large Mac n cheese and our daughter ordered a grilled shrimp salad. It was very busy and only a couple tables available due to covid. Layla was our cashier and energetic and pleasant. We were able to use our 10% off from help also. The flavor of the garlic butter boil was AMAZING! So much fun sitting there and peeling our shrimp. The corn was delicious as I rolled it around in my buttery garlic sauce. A roll of paper towel sits at your table. Oh! I also ordered fried green tomatoes. They were good just a tiny bit too much batter. Terrible customer service, do not sound interested at all when taking phone orders, laugh when people ask questions, just rude overall. I got food there, drove away, was almost to my house and they called to tell me I forgot something. Went through drive-through and ordered 3 of the boils. It was supposed to be 10 shrimp and a snow crab. When I was through ordering she told me it would be 10 minutes in reality it took a little over 30 minutes. When I got home I took the containers out of the bag they were all put in upside down and the sauce had leaked out through the vents. All of the orders had less than 5 shrimp only one order had just a half a crab the other two orders have less than half a crab in them. The food wasn't very good either. After a long drive that started in the Florida panhandle, we were looking forward to some great local food. Particularly gumbo. When we tried to order, we were told they were out of gumbo, etoufee, french fries, onion rings, and a couple of other things I can't remember at the moment. The drink machine was broken. I was told the only dressing selection for the salad was ranch. (I had my salad without dressing.) The shrimp on the salad were good, the rest of the salad was just so-so. The boudain balls were a complete waste of money. The grilled fish was okay, but the "shrimp fried rice" side dish looked like it came from a local Chinese buffet. Except there would have been shrimp in the one from the buffet. All this one had was a piece of shrimp shell. And if the only utensils you provide with the meal are the very cheap plastic ones, at least provide a knife too. The forks don't work to cut anything. read more
