My coworker swears by this place... and he's a 4-cup coffee a day kinda person. Whenever he wants coffee, he talks about Jimmy's like it's his best friend, yet it's too far of a walk so he settles for Country Style across the street. I decided to take a brisk walk to jimmy's before my walk to work just to see what the hype was all about. At about 8:30 on a workday, this place is bustling. the place is not very big, so even if you cannot decide what to get, jump in line because it gets long quickly, but the service is speedy. the lady was extremely polite, attentive, but still moving quickly to get orders out with one person steaming milk and making lattes.I decided to treat myself and got a banana chocolate chip muffin with my latte. Unfortunately, they did not have skim milk (which i really prefer), so settled for 1% instead. The latte was good, i think the coffee beans were more acidic than I would prefer but to each person's own right? The muffin was soft and definitely hit the spot on a busy work day. Oh Jimmy, you know how to fix me when I am need of a daily caffeine dose! Do not be misguided by the small shop front. You can get a dark roast (Hendrix) or a medium roast (Dean) coffee; plus they full espresso bar. Also, they have yummy baked goods which tempt me every time I get a coffee. Really good coffee, arguably the best in Toronto. But like a previous reviewer commented, the British guy who works here is not the best ambassador of the place and should probably try to be less offensive and intrusive. I was there for no more than 10 minutes, during which he peered over at my phone and commented on a personal text, clicked his tongue at me when I didn't order quick enough and loudly berated customers, customer's orders, the Starbuck's Unicorn Frappaccino and the Ritual app. The coffee is good but I hesitate to return because who has time to deal with the guaranteed negativity and unwelcome commentary? read more

Great coffee, food and amazing service. Busy, but never a long wait time, even if people are lined up out the door. I've joked that I always need to have a job in the vicinity, 'cause I'd miss Jimmy's too much if I wasn't able to drop in weekly. Well, I'm not working nearby anymore and that sucks. The staff is really great and when I had some rough days in the last few weeks of the job nearby, I'd go in for a latte feeling crappy and would exit cheered up and laughing. Once, being a regular, I got my coffee on the house so that my 'day got better'. When it wasn't a bad day, it was always fun to go in and listen to my fellow nerds talking about their projects and tech issues. When it was crazy at work, I could run in, get an amazing sandwich, pastry and coffee and be back in time for the next meeting. Will be finding reasons to stop by on the weekends now that I won't be working nearby during the week. read more

I really enjoy my coffees here at jimmys! It's cozy and has a good crowd and vibe. Baristas here are always friendly quick and kind. It is pretty tiny so it can be hard to find a seat and the lines can get long at peak times so beware of potential wait. read more

First of all, I have to say that I hate coffee. I am more like a Chinese tea person and not a big fan of the bitter taste of coffee at all. That's why I always try not to go to any coffee shops, and always order two sugar and two milk for my coffee, if I have to take one to get some refreshment. One of my friends showed me "Jimmy's Coffee" last Sunday after our brunch at Bar Buca, and I have to say I am deeply impressed and would love to recommend this place to others. We arrived at Jimmy's Coffee on Poland Street around noon, and it was packed already. "like always" as my friend said. Unlike Starbucks, it is a boutique coffee shop with only couple tables in the back, and thus most people just order to go or hang out outside on the bench. I guess it isn't the right choice if you want to find a place to do some work or study, but if you want to have a relaxing morning with some great coffee and maybe chat with a friend, then it should be a perfect match. Jimmy's serves very high-quality coffee, very fresh. I ordered a large cappuccino with double shots and it was just great. Even though I have no idea why it tastes this good, it just does. And all the crews there are extremely friendly too. I think I will come back to Jimmy's Coffee next time if I am in downtown, and maybe take my boyfriend here, who is also a coffee-hater. read more

I avoided this place back when it first opened due to a pretentious Aussie barista. The staff are a whole lot better now (for the most part). They make a mean Americano. And their baked goods (outsourced, not made on the premise) are tasty! My only gripes would be that the staff changes too frequently, it seems like every other time I'm in there someone new is being trained. This isn't really an issue except for when you get the wrong order (more than a couple of times) or are overcharged (and you have to correct them and they seem flustered). It also means you miss out on the whole being a regular appreciation that comes with customer service. Also, the prices (especially of the baked goods) have gone up so I can't justify stopping in everyday like I used to. read more

5 stars! It is as good as it gets here in Toronto when it comes to coffee shops. The environment at Jimmy's has a truly home-like feeling, and if you become a regular it's where everyone knows your name. I believe that the Portland St location has a community-based feel where you get to know a lot of the regulars. The staff there actually socialize with the patrons, and it doesn't feel like those large chain coffee shops that are trying to be your third home. ;) Your second home being work. The coffee is always on-point at Jimmy's and I've not been able to find any other location or coffee shop with the same level of quality both in coffee and service. In the end, if you want great coffee, with a side of conversation (mixed in with a little fun sarcasm from some of their staff), you got to try this place out. It may grow on you. read more

Visited Toronto a few months back and this was the first place I stopped. I had their house coffee which was perfect. The shop is quaint and welcoming, and the barista was friendly. I just beat the morning rush, so try to get there early to avoid a line out the door. read more

I went here after reading some of the reviews, but nothing really won me over. I tried to enjoy the coffee, but it was so mediocre. The espresso wasn't my preference. And the decor was nice, but it wasn't comfortable like Dark Horse, or Te Aro comfortable. More like if you were on a lunch break at work. Saying that, the service was friendly, and it's a great location. So, if I was in the area again and in need for a caffeine hit, I wouldn't hesitate to swing by. They are a little coffee shop beside Gusto 101. I used to come here to take a break from my daily work routine. Their drip and americano are one of the best in the city. Their mocha is also very delicious and one of my guilty pleasures whenever i need a pick-me-out. They also have a buy 10 coffees in one month and get one free special on 4square. I begin just about every Saturday and Sunday morning with a pit-stop into Jimmy's. At this point I've tried just about everything the menu has to offer, and I can't say I've ever been let down. For my money this is the best coffee the city has to offer, and I say that having tested just about every nook and cranny in the King West neighbourhood. I'm by no means a coffee aficionado, but I certainly know what I like. Above all, the staff are fantastic. I rarely get in and out of there without a nice little chat about whatever goings-ons might be going on. Also, they offer free dog biscuits, so that's a win in my books. read more

One thing I miss about Seattle is good coffee. I finally got the fix I've been jonesing for at Jimmy's. I have to confess: I drink decaf. I would love to drink regular, but it makes me sick -- so, decaf it is. However, finding a place that does a good decaf is rare. Not so at Jimmy's. I got a great latte with nice, velvety foam. The barista was nice, too, and didn't give me an ass-face for ordering decaf. The coffee shop itself is cozy, bordering on cramped. It's good for short periods, but I wouldn't camp out there for extended periods doing work. The only thing I wish they'd do is a mocha latte -- I didn't see it on the menu, but would have loved to have one if they could make it. read more

It's funny, I just read a review that gave this place raves except for the "questionable" Brit barista berating customers from behind the counter. I have the complete opposite opinion, and think that he's the only thing that saves this horribly douchebaggey, lapdog carrying, lip-injected "Bro, you lift bro?" scene thanks to his wit and great Americanos. I love everything about this place. The coffee is awesome and cheap. You can get an americano for $2. And it's a fucking awesome americano. The staff are friendly and good looking. The place gets busy, but they churn our coffee at a good clip. It's a small space, with few tables. The interior is quite nice and homely. Most people just get take out so I've never actually had a problem getting a seat when I have needed one. They have a tiny patio in the back, and a small one out front. It's easy to miss the shop, since it more or less looks like someones house. The Fashion District is pretty full of good coffee shops, but I think Jimmy's is currently the best of the bunch. read more

I am a frequent customer of the Jimmys in Kensington, so stop into the Portland location sometimes if I am in the area. Jimmys, as we all know, is inexpensive, consistent and makes good coffee. But! the portland location has a staff member, maybe he is a manager, and he has a British accent. Simply put, this guy has to go! I actually won't go in fearing he will be working and I will have to hear his annoying, juvenile, unfunny banter. He actually gave me a free coffee once because he realized how annoying he was being. Jimmy's is one of the best coffee shops in this neighborhood - for coffee that is. Unfortunately it doesn't have the best vibe for working in the colder seasons. It's pretty loud and they often open the door making the place a tad too chilly. In the summer it has a cute and quite patio in the back which is better for working. I love the "dirty chai" - soy chai latte with a shot of espresso and they make it perfect every time. It's also cheaper than Starbucks and 1 million times tastier than Starbucks. I also get the date squares sometimes, which are delicious. The staff are very friendly and are damn good at making coffee beverages. read more
