Finally we have one here in Boston! I used to frequent Jimmy Johns back in Indiana and this just brings back memories. The bread is awesome. It's soft but has a firm skin. Jimmy johns is what it is; a chain sub shop with great options and ingredients. It is not the mom and pops sub shop with a grill against the back wall. If you're looking for a cheesesteak or chicken parm, go elsewhere. Of the 6 or 7 JJ's I have been to, they have always been fast, consistent, and clean. What I recommend. The Vito, Hunter's Club, or if for some sick reason you refuse to eat dead animals you can get the vegetarian with sprouts (kidding!). All good choices Never pass up the chips. They are the bomb unless you have a peanut allergy cause the chips are cooked in peanut oil. I'm sure you nut haters can still eat there cause the chips are packaged elsewhere. During a recent stay in Boston, I had one exhausting day! I did not want to go back out for dinner as it was getting late. Room service was good but EXPENSIVE so I Yelped to see who in the area delivered. Jimmy John's did...so I called and asked for a recommendation. I received a couple of great descriptions and went with the Italian Night Club. They brought it directly to my room with a drink, chips, and a cookie. The ingredients were crisp and fresh and the delivery person was polite and friendly. The cookie was meh, but I didn't order because of a cookie. Price wise probably not the best option but also fills a need in that stretch of D street. My Italian today has mushy tomatoes and I think their onion is overpowering and the hots are not the chopped ones I love on Italians so I would rate it average. Jimmy Johns was a college staple of mine and I am happy to see one open in my neighborhood. While JJs doesn't have the selection of other sub delivery places around (AKs, The Village), it provides the consistency and comfort only a chain company can provide. I travel alot for work and I was pretty excited when a Jimmy John's was finally opening in the NorthEast US. Always had a great sub there in many different parts of the country. Unfortunately, this franchisee owner doesn't care to keep the reputation going. Try putting some meat on the sandwiches!! This might have been the leanest sub or sandwich I've ever had! Disappointing. I seem to remember the sandwiches being alot better elsewhere. Also, you really need to add a local condiment like crushed red pepper. It is a simple little thing but tastes ALOT better than pickled peppers when you ask for "hots". Pickled peppers aren't hot, just pickled. The place is small and a little hard to get into and when you are at the counter, you feel a little like you are going to fall out the door. The bread and JJ chips are good, as usual. Decor is the usual Jimmy John's and it is nice and clean. Too bad the main reason for going, the sandwiches are severely lacking. Can be fixed tho. I'll goto a local South Boston sub shop instead every day until then. read more

I am writing regarding the new location at North Station. They don't have a listing yet because they just opened 2 days ago but seeing that this is a national chain, I think they are all the same. Coming from the North End, I was a little hesitant to try it. And after going today, I was right. Underwhelming is an understatement. Bland bread, mediocre cold cuts, and WAY too overpriced. I just paid $10.50 for a small sub with 2 pieces of ham and 4 pieces of salami, 1 bag of chips and a coke. Word of advice for people in the vicinity of the North End location...go to Going Bananas, Monica's, or Dino's on Salem St. Better subs, same pricing and way bigger portions. In the mood for subs? Give them a try. I went way out of my comfort zone for subs and had the 8" tuna. Perfect amount of mayo. Not so much that it tasted like mayo and not so little that it was dry. I'm typically a fan of Jimmy John's...usually good service and the food is decent. If you place a take-out order, note that there is no seperate window to pick up your order and pay. I phoned in my order on a Sunday afternoon and went to the register to pay. Unfortunately, there was a line of about 50 people waiting to place their orders and when I asked if I needed to go to the end of the line the woman at the register just shrugged. I asked again as I didn't know what that meant and she said I had to go to the end of the line. I then asked her what the point was of placing a take out order and she shrugged again. Through out all of this, my order was sitting right in front of her and I asked if she could ring me up and she said no. Given I was tight on time I told her to cancel my order and I left. I'll likley go back, but I'm a ltitle weary of the customer service, they seemed overwhelmed. read more

I had to work in Boston for three weeks. I'm originally from NY so I didn't know the area at all. Since Jimmy John's was right around the corner from our office, we went very often. I'm not a big cold sandwich person but I enjoyed their sandwiches a lot! They have such fun names for their sandwiches so it makes it interesting. I've tried several different sandwiches, they're all very good! What I love the most?? Their BBQ chips; I don't know, I'm addicted to them! I was extremely happy to hear that JJ was coming to the Boston area until I went to the one on Western Ave. I have been to JJ all over the country and this was the worst experience I've had this far. The wait time to receive your sandwich was 10 minutes. They were also making sandwiches out of order which was also very upsetting. There were only 2 employees working which is extremely uncharacteristic. I heard that this franchisee is opening all of the locations in the Boston area. My husband and I were staying at a hotel right in front of the store location. I had a panic attack and my husband didn't want to leave me so we ordered from JJ. It took over a hour for it to arrive. I called the shop and the guy who answered said he tried to call me to let me know and he didn't. The freakishly fast service was freakishly slow. I left a message on the FB page and got a response and was told that someone would reach out to me. It was 8 days ago. It is obvious they do not care about their customers. Picked up a sub there last week. Pretty good. Tried to order a delivery (to a house in Southie) and was told they don't deliver outside a 1 mile radius or a 5 minute ride. Google Map shows I was 1.2 miles from the location, and given that I work near the shop can confirm it's less than a 5 min ride. Frustrating that "Jimmy John's in Southie" doesn't deliver to Southie. read more

Apparently this is a pretty popular chain. I don't see how they can survive in Boston. They just opened up in Southie. The staff is friendly enough but when you order for the first time, they look at you funny or like a friendly Soup Nazi because you ordered a sandwich like a normal person would. The sandwiches aren't bad, just extremely bland and and not a lot to choose from. I asked for pickles and I got A whole pickle. Who doesn't have sliced/chopped pickles? Roast beef is always well done, not rare like they claim. And the portions; I could starve to death if I had to eat here twice a day for a week or two. My roast beef had two slices rolled up. You could make 10 JJ roast beef or turkey sandwiches with the amount Joseph's Bakery in Southie give you in one sub or sandwich. Back to AK's. read more
