We were attracted to this approach after reading multiple accounts from retired judges on the excessive cost, stress and psychological damage done by traditional adversarial approaches. As a management professional who has been trained in how to build win/win scenarios, this approach resonated with me. Likewise, the website's clarity in its intent to have all meetings be collaborative and the focus on protecting the more vulnerable party, resonated with my former partner. I am pleasantly surprised to report that the process not only met these expectations, but clearly exceeded them. The process, steps and timing were accurately described in the first meeting. The process was executed fairly and with great sensitivity and professionalism. This sensitivity included great sensitivity in working with same-sex couples like us, who have unique legal questions due to the newness of same-sex marriages. The settlement that we amicably reached was fair, protected both parties and preserved a 37 year friendship between me and my former spouse. It created the opportunity to get through the process, protect us both and not do additional damage to our friendship and by extension to our friends and family. When we came upon tricky accounting and tax questions Thurman brought in knowledgeable and helpful accounting professionals that had spot on, accurate and inciteful advice. The process, beginning to end, was four meetings across a couple of months. The fees were hourly based and was on a 'pay as your go' approach, so there were no invoicing surprises. The process started with software used by Thurman that helped make it highly efficient, so the billable hours charged were focused on our issues and resolution of our estate. The fees were transparent, and the billable hours were used in an efficient and effective manner. The sessions were friendly, respectful and compassionate and the settlement was fair and equitable. The only negative in the experience, was that it took a few weeks to get the initial meeting as his law practice is fairly busy, but it was well worth the wait for the initial session. For this service I paid $850, which I had to scrape together to afford. Again, just papers to be filed. All the information necessary for all the paperwork needed was given that first day. The initial paperwork was filed. It was months later before the other party was even contacted. The other party signed papers and returned them to this office...then nothing. When called/emailed, I was told I needed to give them more information, the exact information I had given on that first day. Every call and email after that I was asked to give the same information I'd given on that first day. No other steps have been taken since 2020. Zero. I have emailed, I have called, I have visited the office in person...nothing but promises. My last physical visit was on May 27, 2020, right before the Memorial day holiday. I came into the office and I sat right across from Michael who told me that he would drop the next step's paperwork to the drop box at the Indio courthouse the following Monday (which turned out to be Memorial day,) so even though the drop box is available anytime, I gave him the benefit of time and figured he would drop it off on that Tuesday. During this face-to-face meeting in Michael's office, Michael told me that it takes a week for the court to process for a court date and that once I received the court date I would be coming into the office to see him for the next step. Nothing happened. No papers were dropped off at the courthouse. I waited extra time just in case. By June 13th I heard nothing and called Michael to see what the status of my paperwork was and he told me that he was busy and would call me the following morning. No call the next morning or any time after that. It is now July 1, 2022. I called the office to ask for an update. I talked to the front desk receptionist who told me that Michael wasn't in, that he was gone on medical leave and he might be back in the office next week or maybe the week after. I asked her who was Michael's supervisor and she told me he works for himself and has no supervisor. I asked if Weider was in charge of the office and she said yes...yet nothing can be done. Nobody in this office cares about you or your case. I see others have had near identical issues and I'm willing to bet that there are far more people who have gone through this or are going through this who haven't come forward. Why can this business get away with taking people's money and doing nothing? Stringing people along as if something's going to happen then, again, do nothing. If the people who work in this office are not to be held accountable and there are zero consequences for taking people's money and not delivering the services promised then how are they still in business and allowed to be involved with people's legal issues? This office had made a very simple paperwork situation into a two year panic where the other person involved has now vanished and can't be found. If this office had delivered the services as promised then this wouldn't have ever been an issue and I'd be here singing their praises. I literally, just needed all the papers filed by knowledgeable people, they told me they were the right people for this service. If you value your time, your money, your sanity, then do not use this business for any of your needs.
