They really do a great job fixing, building up any shoes you have! They are very nice at the shop and on the phone. But-of course there is a but, they are extremely slow at doing the great job!!! 4-5 weeks on a more intense repair, ie shoe build up! And the kicker is - you pay up front! Before you see the job that is done, or you can't pick them up for a month or more. This is the only problem. There is not another cobbler choice in Eugene!! I have read that someone calls and needs an emergency heel or strap replaced-I am happy for them. A different tech does those repairs, than my extensive build up. I must tell you that they are very good! In fact when I moved to Texas for a while I UPS'd my shoes to them! So, I must adjust to their schedule!! If you can-you be extremely satisfied!!! read more

This place is fast! I dropped off my motorcycle boots* in early Jan I think and they had them done by the end of the month! I asked for them to get them done as soon a possible without having to pay a rush fee, since this is a safety issue (they're my only pair of armored riding boots). Brought them in because their tread was almost completely fine and I was spying on rocks/ gravel a little. Price was kind of high, but they look great and it's way cheaper than buying a new pair! *I had to buy these boots years ago because they were the only vegan ones I could find. Track boots aren't supposed to have much tread so your foot doesn't get pulled off the peg dangerously. However, I ride a cruiser and only do street riding, so some tread is fine. read more

Be very careful....brought my high-end crocodile leather boots in to be stretched wider picked them up & realized the rubber part of the souls were missing or falling out!!!! Called immediately the guy tried to deny it was their fault....took them back in a few days later had to argue with the fat guy trying to tell me it was the materials fault they were ruined I said I just want them fixed....FINALLY got them back over a month later resoled thankfully....probably won't take anything back there.... read more

I went in to get my birks resoled and when i first gave them it felt like i was being rushed out the door and he gave me a time quote of 3-4 weeks. That time period went by and i got no call that it was ready, so i waited another week and called to check and he literally was just like "ya we are backed up we will get to it when we can". Like i understand being understaffed but I feel like there should be communication that the time like is pushed back. They ended up taking 2 months total with again no communication from his end. I come and pick them up and they look AWFUL like i could have done a better job. The sole is so much bigger that the original. It looks like he barely trimmed it to fit. I ended up having to take a blade and cute off the excess. Which means he definitely could if i could. It was not worth the 60 bucks. We are from Roseburg and had to go to Eugene for the day and I have a pair of boots that I absolutely love and the hill broke on one of them and I called him and I said if I bring it in, do you think you could have it done in a timely manner because we have to go back to Roseburg and he said yes, and he actually was slammed, but he managed to squeeze in my boots and get them done within four hours and they look brand new when I picked them up super super happy! The only thing that I would say is they have a sign hanging up that says let the stress begin and they seem stress. They seemed overwhelmed. SO thankful that there is a place in Eugene that specializes in the repair of shoes. I purchased my leather sandals in Athens, Greece back in 2018 and they are my favorite pair of Summer shoes. Last Summer, the clasp on one of the finally gave out. Before the warmer season approached in 2024 I wanted to get this fixed, that's when I discovered Jim. Incredible easy process. Just dropped them off and waited for them to give me a call when they were complete. I think it took them less than a week? It was only $25 dollars and he repaired the clasps on both shoes. I took some 1970s lace up boots in that I bought online that turned out to be in awful condition. The sole was cheap rubber that had previously been gorilla glued at home. They were so scuffed and in such bad condition, I brought them to the Shoe Doctor assuming they were a lost cause. Well, these boots got FULLY reworked, conditioned, and polished. I have been a patron of Jim the shoe doctor for over 20 years. Every time I buy a new pair of shoes, I automatically go over there to have them stretch a certain area of the shoe because of a particular condition that I have. I went to pick up my shoes last week and I noticed that the insoles of both shoes had rips in them and there were great big black areas on the insoles of both of my new shoes!! I brought this to the owners attention, and he tried to tell me that my new shoes were not new and that in time, the insoles would end up being that way anyway, blackened, which made no sense to me at all. He finally admitted that his machine had damaged and blackened up my new shoes. While glaring at me, face to face eye to eye, he reluctantly agreed to put new insoles in my new shoes.. I asked him if I could wait for them and he agreed. When I walked up to him when they were ready, he continued to glare at me in a very menacing way. I couldn't understand why. Some of my friends thought that maybe he had a problem with me because I am African-American, but I don't know that that's true. As I had my hand on the door to leave, he shouted out to me "Burch's is over across the bridge and that is where YOU will be taking any future repairs." I don't know what triggered him to try to demean me in that way. I went over and shook one of the employees hands and thanked him for the wonderful customer service he had provided me throughout the years, and turned around and left. read more

It's taken me awhile to write this review because I was so traumatized by my experience with this "business." I would give them zero stars if I could. This is what happened to me: Last fall I took my beloved boots in for repair. I was told the proverbial "3 weeks" that other reviewers have already documented, so I won't go into all that. Suffice it to say it took months, not weeks. Another customer had brought in a similar pair of boots for repair as well, in a different size. Jim the shoe "doctor" mixed our boots up, resulting in permanent holes being punched in the leather down the front of ONE of my boots. When I went to finally pick them up (after several calls and visits and boots that couldn't be found by staff) I received one of my boots and one of the other customers. Their solution? They made ME call the other customer. Meet her in a parking lot and exchange the wrong boot. Then I had one boot that was fixed according to my specifications given to Jim the Shoe "doctor" and one boot with permanent holes down the front. I was angry and upset and tried to get them to at the very least refund me the cost of the repair. They flat out refused. It was such a terrible experience. I was treated with disdain. Every single employee there was rude and dismissive to me at every interaction, including the scene where I went in person to ask for a refund. I have quite literally never had such a terrible customer experience, except from maybe United Airlines, but it's close. This is not a business. In no sense of the definition do they provide what a business provides its customers. They are, like another reviewer mentioned, an absurd version of a Seinfeld episode. Run, do not walk away from this place. Go literally anywhere else. Or just buy a new pair of shoes or boots. You will be way better off. read more

I finally invested in a brand new pair of tap shoes, and I do mean "invested" -- Capezio K360, top of the line tap shoes. I brought them in to Jim the Shoe Doctor to have a half-sole added and the taps fitted. I was a little disappointed to pick them up with the taps installed but no half sole, but they took the shoes right back with profuse apologies for missing that detail, and within 24 hours my shoes were finished and returned. My new tap shoes looked perfect, but it was suggested to me by another tapper that the taps I'd purchased were too small to get the best sound, so I brought them back with what I thought were larger size taps (at least that's how they were sold to me). Jim personally showed me that the profile of the toe taps were exactly the same as the "smaller" ones, and on his recommendation we agreed to keep the original set in place. He did replace the heel taps with the larger set, as they did appear to be a better fit. I'm so happy with my new tap shoes -- they look and sound GREAT! Even though it took me 3 tries, one of which was of my own making, Jim only charged me once for the original installation of the taps and addition of the half-sole, and replaced the heel taps for free. He and his staff all provided me with very personalized service and I was very pleased with the entire experience, and am very happy to support an artisan repair service in my new community. I've since brought in a pair of boots for some minor sole and scuff repair, and look forward to returning whenever I have a pair of shoes that can be fixed instead of tossed! read more

They sewed dog leashes out of old climbing rope for me, fixed sheathing on harnesses, as well as fixed climbing shoes and regular shoes all with great results. They let me know when something isn't worth the cost to fix and another part will soon fail. They come up with unique and creative solutions for fixes of irregular things. brought two pairs of shoes in to have a strap put across the heel. Most shoes today have a velcro strap or a buckle. I picked up my shoes and they had put a cheap piece of elastic. The ivory shoes they used a dark brown thread. My new Vionic shoes look horrible. I was charged $20.00 a pair for them to put this elastic on. There were two women in the shop and one girl took my measurements three times and the other behind the counter was yelling at the one taking measurements. They have you pay up front before the work is done. Now I know why because they overcharge their customers. I will never ever go there again. They do have some cute overpriced soxs but you can go on Amazon and find cheaper. read more

I bought an expensive pair of boots and not 2 days later managed to fall and scuff them up really badly along the top and sides of one of the boots. I was desperate to find a way to fix them because I love these boots. I first went to Sole Savers and they told me they couldn't do anything for me and recommended Jim the Shoe Doctor and I'm so glad they did! I walked in and was helped by a lady and a man (not sure of names) but they took my boot and conferred about the best strategy to fix it. They took the boot back right away and came back about 10 minutes later and my boot looked almost as good as new! You can barely tell it even had a scratch on it unless you look really closely in perfect lighting. I'm attaching a picture so you can see. I wish I had a before pic, because it was really awful. Big notches of scratches and light colored. They did the repair on the spot for me at no charge and were super nice. They also have a really fun collection of socks. Seriously the biggest collection of hilarious socks I've ever seen. I buy my dad socks every year for Christmas (usually funny ones) so now I know where to go for that too. I have other boots I've mangled too so now I know where to go. I was fully expecting to have to drop them off for a few weeks like their sign says, but they did it right away. I've been coming here for years with good service, but this last experience I had will be my last. I brought in my boots, explained what I wanted done, and paid. A week later, I got a phone call saying they were ready. I was just down the street, so I went in 10 minutes after getting the call and they were not done yet. I waited around, received rude questioning about how much I had paid for the boots and why I had treated them so poorly. It is my job to buy the boots and wear them out, and it is their job to fix them without questioning my shoe wearing habits or talk down to me. That's what keeps them in business. I had some stitching repaired on the boots, and when I picked them up, the strings hadn't been trimmed and the glue was sloppily applied and visible. $25 for a bad job and a bad attitude. EDIT: I wrote the review below before I noticed that while putting on my half soles, they got glue all over the side of one shoe. Jim's denied this, of course, because there are so many other ways you get glue on the side of a dress shoe. I offered to bring it in for them to look at but they told me not to bother. So basically I spent over $50 resoling shoes that I wound up having to throw away. DON'T GO HERE. Not if you want decent service, decent work, or just to be treated like a human. Their repair work is okay, but for the prices they charge, they could at least be friendly. I encountered two different women at the counter, each more surly and rude than the other. A simple repair involving everyday materials took weeks longer than they promised, and when I politely inquired when they would be finished, all I got was attitude. They make you pay in advance, which is obviously because their service is so bad, most people wouldn't put up with it if they hadn't already paid. Me, I don't dig paying top dollar to be treated like shit. I don't deserve that and neither do you. Avoid, but if you go, at least pay by credit card so you can get your money back if need be. read more

I had a pair of florshiems that the center rubber insole had come loose and needed repaired. Since eugene only has 2 shoe repair locations I went to Jim's since it was open. I had previously taken shoes to him and been impressed with his work but not the time it took him. I showed him what I wanted and impressed upon him that these were $300 shoes and I wanted them to remain florshiems, with a leather exterior sole and to just replace the rubber inset. He said he could do that by placing a weatherizing sole on. What I got back is no longer a florshiem, the leather sole is now encased in a hard plastic and the beauty of a florshiem is destroyed. Do not take your shoes to this Man. It is time for the marketplace to let him fade into poverty and obscurity. read more

The service here is not necessarily bad, but it's really weird. I brought a pair of old and well-loved boots in for a new sole. Simple request. I proceeded to get an unsolicited lecture about how I was conditioning the leather wrong (which was completely unrelated to the worn-down soles). The Good: The handiwork work itself is very well done. The sole is perfectly even and the new stitching is neat. I'd done quite a number on those boots, and they really came through on the repair. The Not-So-Good: They finished a day later than they were supposed to, and when I went to pick them up I noticed that they'd not only put rubber on the heel when I asked and paid for leather, but they'd PAINTED the whole heel a dark color. It doesn't look that bad, but I was really stunned and turned off that they'd do that without asking permission. I've had those boots and other boots resoled before, and never has anyone painted my shoes. To their credit, they did offer to sand it off when I mentioned it. Also, the boots were filthy. When I picked them up they were slumped on the floor and covered in dirt and dust. They weren't immaculate when I brought them in, but that's not license to toss them around like that. The Bottom Line: Odd staff, good cobbling. Seems aimed at bikers, so if you need your chaps repaired, this is your place. Just be sure to tell them not to paint anything that they're not supposed to. read more

Jim's provides reliable and inexpensive shoe repair, but the work can take a while. I've been in there twice in the last few months--once with a messenger bag that needed a strap re-attached, and once with some Sperry Topsiders with halfway-sewed on soles (cue the bro jokes). On both occasions, the staff was friendly and the bill was very reasonable, and the repair work has held up over time. The one downside is that it can take weeks for the repairs to get done; I'd hesitate to recommend this place if you need a quick turnaround. They were backlogged when I dropped off my shoes and guessed the work would take 2-3 weeks, but it ended up taking a month. Boat shoes are hardly an urgent necessity so the lag time was fine, but I would think twice before coming in with a rush job. read more
