I won't repeat what other reviews have said because they're all in agreement and spot on re. some important down points. I'll just mention three more things which may be useful:
First, the good, this is super convenient to me when I want to get to London for a cheap price in reasonable comfort and with wifi on Chiltern, as it's just three minutes from where I live. However, direct trains are very infrequent so check.
Second, the ticket machine is often not working, so if like me you book in advance online and then ideally prefer to pick up on the day, take care - seriously! It's not too bad for me as I walk past every day so I can check in advance, and the machine is usually fixed by next day, but if I didn't and wanted to pick up for a train due to arrive then I'd be well pi**** off!
Third, there seems to be zero logic as to when the ticket office is open, so if you're in a rush, the ticket machine is broken and the office is closed ... erm, good luck with that one. You could scam a ride to Snow Hill on an earlier train, likely a London Midland, and beg the person at the gate there to let you through to buy a ticket, or you can take chances buying a ticket on the train and not getting fined!
Finally, It's a dull as dishwater intro to the sexiest area in Birmingham. I live here and sometimes I'm tempted to stay on the train!! Yes, a bit harsh and I am grateful for having the station exactly where it is and convenient for me, and if you have a ticket when you arrive it's all smooth and easy, but otherwise, not so great! So it's largely rubbish as an experience ... whoever runs the station needs to get a grip and start serving customers better. read more
