As far as that all goes, it's run of the mill with a good selection in all those areas. As you can tell from the name of the place, they also sell toys. I used to love coming in here with Mum when I was a kid and hassling her to buy me random little toys. The range of toys isn't like what you'd see in a department store. It's more cheap trinkets and mid-price action figures that the owners know will sell and satisfy kids for at least a little while. They also sell a good amount of coffee table books on subjects like war history, natural wonders and biographies. Check out the tables outside for specials on stationery, subscriptions and books.

I personally like to make my cards by hand, and their variety of coloured cards and markers is great for the artsy type. For those that feel that pre-personalised cards are adequate, they have a huge range of cards for all kinds of occasions. Their magazine range is equally diverse and caters to all interests, including music, cooking, handicrafts and sports. The shop all stocks novels and books, but the range is somewhat limited to bestselling titles. The staff are very friendly and aren't pushy - they're quite comfortable with customers flipping through magazines and having short reads through books. Probably the best aspect of this shop is the relaxed atmosphere, as there are few people in the store at the same time, and you have the freedom to quietly browse without interruption. Also available is a variety of gift goods, ranging from scented candles to decorative ornaments. Whilst these gift ideas are more appropriate for older generations, there are plenty of items that are ideal for younger generations too, such as notebooks and calendars.

First of all, it's always quite empty and I love not having many people around when browsing for something. Second, the shop assistants have always been very friendly. Third, it's clean, open and bright and everything is in impeccable order. And last - and most importantly - they have an amazing selection of newspapers and magazines. Their stock is not massive, yet large enough and it contains exactly what I'm after. I especially love their travel and cooking magazines and always have a very hard time just picking one or two. The central counter has lots of paraphernalia on and around it, the incidental items you may miss if they were placed elsewhere. It is also a licenced lottery agenc and no matter how many times I ask for the winning ticket, so far it hasn't happened! On the other opposite side of the counter is the giftware area, which has an adequate range of last minute gift choices.

Good collection of magazines, cards and resources…read more Sometimes the staff can be a bit impolite and lack smiles however overall it is quite satisfactory. You can grab bus timetables from here as well and there is probably one of the best ranges of pens at this newsagent too. Was a little disappointed with the small range of cardboard however with another newsagency at Woodcroft Town Center, this isn't too bad. They do dry cleaning here however it can really vary in quality. I have had both good and bad experiences with that program however it generally turns out ok. When I take all the factors into consideration, then this newsagency passes as satisfactory however be forewarned as some things can be below satisfactory (like the service sometimes and the dry cleaning service) whereas somethings can be above satisfactory (like the range of computer and technology magazines and the fact I once found an in-date magazine here below the RRP by $5!!)

The store sells the usual in wrapping paper, a massive range of cards including all the Hallmark varieties and the full selection of Australian newspapers. Aside from that however, they had a huge selection of journals and diaries, some at discounted prices now that it is getting into 2012. There is also a selection of kids toys and baby gift items which is unusual for a newsagency but well welcomed I think, and something that sets it apart from the others. The other thing I loved was the big range of those massive cards that are ridiculously too big and you get heaps of people to sign them. Alongside that is heaps of bulk buy invitations and thank you notes with heaps of designs and cartoon characters to choose from.

I got dragged into the West Lakes mall a few weeks ago with a friend who was picking up some frames (yes I'm a mall snob, sue me), and this newsagent made my foray into fluro-lit hell quite bearable. It was a nice surprise. Fash mags! Imports! Cute diaries! Pens! Perusers, stationery fiends and mall-haters alike will find something to tickle their fancy in here.

They do all the usual newagent services like selling magazines, newspapers, books and lotto tickets also greeting cards, wrapping paper and gift ribbons, bows and tags, etc. The other half is dedicated to giftware, homewares and accessories such as scarves, handbags, jewellery, etc. There are some lovely smelling candles and room diffusers plus placemats and decorative table settings. A great place to stop by and pick up a last minute gift along with all the trimmings, including scissors and sticky tape.

Luckily, I have drive, a writing addiction, and important information given to me by customer attendants for previous reviews, to remember. Great store for a writer like me. I've been here before several times pretty much just for essential items like the odd multitrip bus ticket, stationery or magazines. The Rundle Mall Plaza Newsagency does feel a little bit empty each time and somewhere you don't want to hang around for too long. Upon walking in, you are emerged in a very quiet culture, complete with several rows of mindless magazines and greeting cards for less than half an hour of fun. I managed to walk around the crowd a bit, to get to the area known as "the great wall of pens", that holds plenty of different coloured pens, pencils, and other stationery. A perfect place to take a visiting guest or regular who has the "writing itch" to scratch off...it'll bring out the inner writer within.

Now, as a bloke, I've noticed that some news agencies have very little in the way of reading material for the fellas. They almost all, pretty much without exception, have stacks of women's magazines. That never really changes. A lot of places limit their mens range to *those* magazines that are wrapped in plastic (apparently to seal in the badness), and maybe a couple of magazines for the dude who likes V8s and other pushrod-powered dinosaurs. Not that's there's anything wrong with them. I've got some varied tastes as a car nut, but the same old Aussie muscle car mags just don't do it for me. So when I walked in here, I wasn't expecting much. Well, I was pleasantly surprised. Not only did they have some of the harder to get stuff (like some of the US based VW mags), they had plenty of copies of each. I walked out with my copy of ACVWs, Zoom and HPI, as well as a PC magazine. This place has some real variety. I'll be going back again next time I'm in Adelaide.

So I thought I ought to break out of my Australiana memorabilia spree and review something…read moredifferent. Like a newsagent. And this one already gets points for being the only one around (or the only one I could find). This particular newsagent was completely innovative for having precisely the sort of thing you'd expect to find at a newsagent. How is that innovation, you ask? Well, there was very little in the way of foreign materials. And perhaps it's the inexperienced entrepreneur in me, but I feel as if foreign reading material would make a killing so close to the Central Market. The staff is mostly young and mostly friendly. There was an elderly gentleman there, but it was hard to determine whether he was staff or not, as he sat a little away from the other two workers present. Yet he was still behind the counter. He watched me with suspicious eyes since the moment I entered the store. I felt his eyes trying to make deep whip lashes in the back of my cranium as I waltzed over to the utensil section. I toyed with a pen, tested it out, found it to my liking, and as I went to leave the store this elderly gentleman quite alarmed me. He called out some words I couldn't understand, and through various gestures I realised he was under the impression I was trying to steal something. All I had in my hand was the journal I'd walked into the newsagency with (the one where I write all my reviews). I tried to explain the situation, making some gestures of my own to cross the language barrier. It was then I realised the hand I was gesturing with was gripping a pen - the same pen I'd been playing with before. And one I hadn't paid for. I apologised a great deal and paid for the pen. And from it, I've gained this Mario tip: don't try to steal anything from this newsagent. Not even if it's an accident.
