We started in the downstairs area, which has a small but sufficient bar, and then moved upstairs, where there was a live band performing a mix of Brazilian and American songs. The bar service was about average speed, as far as pubs go. I'd recommend upgrading your caipirinha to Nega Fulô from their house standard. There was a R$15 charge to get in, which is super reasonable with htel live band--actually, ridiculously cheap by American standards, given the current exchange rate that makes it $3.75 for entrance. Word to the wise: The bathrooms are in a sub-upstairs area from the main upstairs area (if you're on the second floor, you'll see what I mean). Surprisingly clean for an Irish pub. They also use a card system where, upon entry, they give you a card to which you'll charge all your food and drinks, and then pay at booths on the way out. Even though it was a bit crowded, the place had a very friendly environment. People weren't pushing you out of the way or anything like that, which was refreshing. On the whole, we had a good time and enjoyed the band.

Then you walk around the corner and your suddenly up on a balcony with a huge floor (with its own bar in there). We went there with low expectations. The place turned out to be great. They had a superb 80s band playing some great hits for the night. The waitresses were also in top of their game and keep the caprinhas flowing. Their 'system' was a bit weird. When you enter they require to see your ID. They then enter you into a system and assign you a swipe card. You need the swipe card to buy things. No cash is exchanged until you are leaving the bar. At that point you go to a cashier. Everyone must hand I their card and pay the fee (pro tip: if you are a couple, put some drinks on each card, as otherwise you will be stuck with an admission fee on the zero balance card), then you get a token to leave, which is carefully examined by the bouncers. Strange, but pleasantly surprised by the night.

This will be one of my least critical reviews ever:…read more I like them because they got me drunk on affordable Black and Tans when I was having a bad day. Yep, that's about it. Nice clean (maybe toooo clean for a real Irish Pub but I digress) place, apparently the food is good (but who needs food when there is whiskey?), and a little smoker's deck on the 2nd floor. Oh yeah, but I don't smoke anymore. Still, I like it that smokers can smoke and not have to leave and reenter. That is a pain in the ass. What else? There is live music and after around 10 it seems to lose all semblance of "pub-style" atmosphere and revert to a full on balada, which is fun if you're under 30 or have had more your weight in kilos divided by 10 in drinks. :D

They don't charge cover but they give you a charge sheet where you have to spend $20 a person in order to not get charged a cover on the way out. The girls we were with didn't' really drink much but my buddy and I got 3 drinks that came out to close to $30. When we cashed out they wouldn't give us the cover waiver for the 2 girls even though we spent over $80 total there. They said everyone had to hit $20. After arguing a little bit we knew they weren't going to budge so my buddy & I took a shot of Jameson to get it to the right amount. I understand if the bar was busy but we were the only ones there. That's just ridiculous. I don't plan to ever go back when I'm in town again.
