Valley Internal Medicine Associates (VIMA) is a practice of internal medicine for adults. The…read morepractice is owned and operated as a corporation by three physicians. The practice has an exceptionally good website which gives the backgrounds on all three doctors and two nurse practitioners. It also shows the extensive list of in-house services that are available to patients on site, decreasing the need for multiple visits to treat a single condition. I highly recommend that prospective patients read the website to see the comprehensive list of in-house medical services. The practice itself is located conveniently on E. Griffin Pkwy., close to Sherry, Road. The second location in Edinburg is now closed. The practice itself is committed to providing exceptional service to each patient. They seem to strongly believe in the concept of continuous improvement, and are willing to listen to ideas from the patient's. One of the best process improvements made by the practice is the scheduling and seeing patients at the time of their appointments. They have done this by having the doctors only see patients with a scheduled appointment, and have nurse practitioners see all walk-in patients. This is a fair system that rewards patients for their loyalty. Another area that they have improved is the web portal. When first introduced it was cumbersome to login to the site. They corrected this. The portal software itself is easy to use, especially for requesting prescription refills. No waiting on hold just to request a refill. I am giving this medical practice a rating of five stars because they are currently well-organized, efficient, and effective. In addition they are committed to improving the service levels, and in-house services available.

Not happy. I had a telehealth visit with my PA Edgar Garcia on Friday regarding blood work. He was…read moresending my prescription into my regular pharmacy however I told him they were closed over the weekend. He informed me I needed the medicine before then and what other pharmacy I would like. I told him Walmart Pharmacy in Edinburg off of 281. i hadn't heard anything else from Mr. Garcia or the pharmacy. On Saturday I called the pharmacy to see if the prescription was ready. The pharmacist proceeded to tell me that he tried calling the doctors office because the prescroption is not covered by my insurance. The out of pocket cost was going to be over 500 dollars. He said if we could call the office as well to help out. Well it's a Saturday and they aren't open so I had to call the answering service. In this case they only send the messages through to the on call doctors if it's a life or death situation or what they consider a medical emergency. Well my case is a medical emergency since my potassium is at a 6 and it needed to be lowered. The answering service sent my message through to the on call doctor, which was supposed to be that I needed a cheaper medication that the insurance would cover. Later on I received a message from the on call doctor which i am assuming was PA Adam Ortega wanting me to review the medication. The medication was the same one that had been sent and it was sent to the pharmacy that was closed for the weekend. In other words he didn't even open or read my chart. I then called back to the answering service and left them another message that I needed a cheaper medicine than what is listed and it was to be sent to the Walmart Pharmacy in Edinburg off of 281. The answering service guy said he would send it through and said if the doctor feels this is an emergency he will contact you back. Well I never received a call back or a message back from PA Adam Ortega. It's now Sunday morning and I am without the medication I was needing to lower my potassium since Friday and before Monday. I am going to have to go to Walmart and purchase this medication that is over 500 dollars out of pocket because someone isn't doing their job by reading the chart correctly or by picking up the phone and calling the patient directly. I've always been happy with VMAC and PA Edgar Garcia however, not this time with PA Adam Ortega.

I've gone in a few time in the past months for various gynecological reasons and no matter the reason my experience has always been the same each time. There is a wait time as it is a very busy practice but they nursing staff is always nice and helpful and once I'm seen by my dr. (Jennifer Almonte-Gonzalez) she is very attentive and takes the time to address any concerns or questions I have or just explain everything to me which I really like. Another thing I like about the practice is that all the doctors and nursing staff are women as I've always preferred women ObGyns.
