The location is good, right in the center for easy access and the selection is huge, a large basement type area makes up the bulk of the store. Their prices range, but hover around 200 nok+ per item. If you ask me, that isn't a thrift store at all, that's a rip off. They also offer 90 nok and 50 nok racks sometimes, which are very limited and don't really offer nice things anyways. Overall I wouldn't go back to this store, wasn't my thing and was way too expensive for no reason and also smelled bad.

The store is based on voluntarily work and they say the money will go to Oslo and their work here, which sounds just great! The concept: Donate your clothes and tell their story! You have to donate directly to the store. The store has fewer clothes than other second hand stores I have seen but that is part of the concept. The clothes are all clean and ready to be worn. You go to this store to support a good case and to find a piece of second hand that is gently worn has a story to tell. Thus, you find both bikbok and Ferner Jacobsen here, and may find something unique too! The prices were a bith high, but no reason to worry. Even though the pumps are worn by a celebrity, 3000kr is a tad bit more than I am willing to pay. However, maybe you are? It seems they focus on high end clothes,vintage and known brands? Will come here again, and also bring some clothes to donate.

The proprietor was so friendly, and she was curious about where I was from since I was speaking english. I told her Seattle and she thought that was cool. She also showed this interest in a young couple that came in a little after me... they too were from Seattle and had just moved here like me! The gal exclaimed this was definitely meant to be! And I agree! Anyway, I ordered the Varm Sjokolade (hot chocolate) I can easily say it's the best I've ever had. It was a huge cup meant for slow sipping while browsing the cool vintage items displayed for sale. I enjoyed my time at Retrolykke Kaffebar. It was so good, so cozy, and so friendly it can easily be a regular stop for me.

This store carried men/womens clothing, shoes, and then downstairs is full of household goods, glassware, cds/dvds/boxsets, books, and knic knacks. So for variety of items they probably deserve a 5. But for location and prices of the items 1 star. Their stores are not easily accessible by public transit and therefore you need to have access to a car. They do not have sales here, or mark items down at all from what I saw. I thrift shop all over the world and never have I seen such high prices for basic things, not even name brand items. Name brand items were costing 3 times as much as they would anywhere else in europe. My overall opinion of Oslo's "thrift" arena is stay away. Hit the local flea markets in the schools instead, you won't be finding any bargains here.

But then again,…read moreI haven't been to many places...and while this is called 'Velouria Vintage', I think it is more of a used goods store, not true vintage. I just don't consider an oversized Bart Simpson t-shirt from 1999 vintage. But nevertheless, there were some good finds throughout the place. The location was great as you can just hop off of trikk 11, 12, or 13 at Olaf Reyes Plass and walk up the hill a little and it'll be on the right hand side. The hours are wonderful. I love when places stay open until 7pm because it gives people who have a job (ie. almost everyone) a chance to shop when they are off of work. This place had quirky dresses, jackets, boots, purses, etc. Lots of band t-shirts as well (again, not necessarily vintage but more used). I am used to hundreds of vintage stores in the US, so it is really hard to rate a place that does Oslo well, but is not really all that good. That is how I describe this place. It is good for Oslo, but would quickly go under anywhere else. With that said, I'll definitely check this over-priced place out every once in a while to see what I can come up with.

Recently, stands with expensive "designer fleas" have started to sell there. I see no point in paying loads for used stuff. Also, some stands sell new things "made in China". why? The best deals are done where the boxes full of unorganized things are. You can haggle with the sellers and leave happily with an old treasure. Normally, also a vinyl seller is there with some nice deals. All in all Birkelunden Market is worth checking out, but be patient :)

Currently it seems great for nostalgic old household things, not good for electronics and other things that you'd probably prefer to be as new as possible.
