Had to pay an additional $30 at the MVD to take the test, on top of the price for the permit. Apparently they need "evidence that she has some idea of how to drive before giving her one." That is laaaaaaaaame. Other classes include the test, as the MVD staff said they generally upload the test results to the database. Not this one, apparently. So what was the point of this class if it doesn't include evidence of "some idea of how to drive" for a dang LEARNER'S permit?? To boot, my kid commented that a fair amount of time was spent by the instructor plugging his book. I could've taught my kid the basic rules of driving to prepare her for taking a test. I really don't know what I paid this company for.

The business operations of this organization is unacceptable. After you take their in-class…read moreportion, you will now embark on a frustrating journey to schedule your seven drive time lessons. The earliest one they will offer you will be at least a month away. Read that gain, yes, at least a month out. Since you can only schedule one appointment at a time, you will need at least seven months to get this over. This is completely unacceptable. You don't run a business like that. People paid for the class, and you need to provide your service in a timely manner. By the way, if you can't complete your seven driving lessons in a year, you will need to pay extra money for each lesson. That's right, they delay the scheduling so that you won't be able to complete your lessons, and you will end up paying more.

I can't say enough good things about Cottonwood. It is a gem in every way. The teachers are…read moreutterly dedicated to the kids and to providing an exceptional learning experience. The format encourages creativity, independent thinking and problem solving skills, artistic ability, confidence and fun. It is a loving, supportive community of parents, teachers and administrators and the kids thrive there. The students are encouraged to self-motivate, manage their own workload and be self-sufficient, all of which are the skills we all need to be truly successful in life. The school focuses on community service, equality, tolerance, peace, and a global perspective. The teachers teach and talk "up" to the kids (not down). Beyond incredible academics, the kids do the most amazing things, from learning musical instruments and music, to writing their own plays and creating the sets and costumes, to learning about the local eco-system, to learning organic gardening, to learning to give back to the community through multiple events throughout the year (we sponsor families in need during the holidays, recently volunteered as families at a local food bank, and do a food drive in the fall). The kids come away from Cottonwood not only light years ahead of their peers in all academic disciplines, but they also come away with an open-minded, global perspective, the ability to empathize, to control their own actions and reactions to the world, and to be clear and confident about who they are no matter what is going on in the world around them. The buildings are a bit less than stellar (nothing like a fancy school with a big endowment), but I like it that way because the focus in on the quality of the education and of the community, not on status or prestige. That said, the school has a very high percentage of kids that get into the top middle and high schools in the area. If the buildings were fancy, I think it would attract a very different kind of parent. That is why I'm almost afraid to share all of this because it is such a special place - I don't want the secret to get out! :-) We are so lucky that we found this very special school.

My older children went to a different driving school in town, where it was difficult to schedule drive times; McGinnis makes scheduling drive times easy, and they provide excellent feedback for students on what they're doing well and where they can make further improvements. Scheduling driving time was incredibly frustrating. While I understand that staff changes happen, not having driving lessons available for a month out is unreasonable. We often forgot to check for new dates because the wait between appointments was so long. We even had appointments scheduled and changed without notification. For his last driving lesson, we received a call saying the instructor was sick and the appointment needed to be rescheduled yet again. At this point, I had enough. If this had been the first or second time we had scheduling problems, it wouldn't have been an issue. I understand that staffing issues can cause problems, but as a consumer paying a premium for these services, it is extremely frustrating to be told it isn't their problem and to receive no empathy for the struggles we faced throughout the entire process. The staff was consistently short, rude, and unempathetic.

She isn't happy about anything that has anything to do with responsibility, even if said responsibility is the awesome opportunity to grasp vehicular freedom by the reigns. She's relatively unhappy about everything, save her Facebook profile and new beauty products. And I'll be straight-up, if I could have written a review of my driving class and instruction in high school, I would've been pissy, too. That's just how teenagers roll. Premier School of Driving was the right choice for us and I absolutely recommend them for any parent suffering the hellish reality of unleashing their pimpled pupil upon the automotive masses. My initial review was really flawed; they offer driving instruction alongside classes, and the mentors are very, very good. We were given a full report of our kid's driving issues following every ride, and in the end they got her ready for the road. I absolutely cannot fathom the heart failure those people endure each and every day, sitting alongside kids who try to navigate busy streets, but they manage to do a great job. I've also been present during the classroom instruction, and I don't think my daughter's report was accurate. She is, of course, in her teens; any act of sitting around and learning is a one-star report. But these guys do a solid job, and today I bask contented, knowing that my kid got her drivers license and has allowed me to kick back and write this review while she terrorizes the general public and rarely, if ever, checks her blind spots. You've been warned. Oh, and they really don't practice driving in reverse. I'm her tutor for that. One star removed.
