It's split across four floors and the rooms are traditionally furnished and decorated with lots of pine furniture. On both of my visits I've stayed on the top floor and have been lucky enough to get rooms with skylights - there's nothing quite like watching the stars before you fall asleep. The hotel is close to the centre of Jena. The Jen tower is probably only around a five minute walk away and there are bars and restaurants very close by. It looks like at one point this hotel also had a bar/restaurant downstairs but, at least when I've visited, it hasn't been operational. Instead it is only really used for serving a very good continental breakfast - there aren't many places in Jena where I've been able to find good coffee but the woman who works in the hotel knows how to get it right. Don't get the WiFi included option when booking online. It's only ~€5 for a week's access and both times I've visited they've been confused when I've said I've already paid for it. It's easier to just pay for it when you arrive. Unfortunately on the higher floors the signal is very weak but I don't think they'd mind if you wanted to work downstairs. For the price this hotel is ideal. If I need to visit Jena again it will be among my first choices for a place to stay.

After driving for so long and almost feeling delirious we finally arrive at Steigenberger. After staying at a few places this hotel was friendly and very luxurious. Parking was a bit weird for us. They have a car elevator that takes you to an under ground level to park. The bathroom was very nice and even had soaps and lotion and other things. Everything about this place was nice and the price was good enough for us. Despite the drunk guy that pounded at our door in the middle of the night thinking it was his room. we had a real nice night here at this hotel. I would go back if i had the chance and stay for a few days! We loved it!

The positive: this hostel is immaculately clean, very new and almost like a hotel. The staff are so lovely. Good location. Additional experiences. I arrived to a work site as things were being finished/fixed in the hostel. The tradesperson, after shouting for someone who worked there, called a member of staff for me who then arranged my key and room. Linen, a necessity for a backpacker generally, was extra. Got into my room. Very small hotel box room, with a chair and table so small people couldn't actually sit at it, one set of bunks and one single bed crammed in. This room, would be cosy with one bed. But 3 and superfluous furniture.. There was barely enough room on the floor to put bags. After the other two guests arrived, moving was a hazard. The communal spaces were cold, Spartan and echo-y. Rarely members of staff were present at reception. They place up a sign saying to call if you need anything any they'll come immediately. But, as a traveller, it's mr uncommon not to have a phone. And skype-calling may be an impossibility, with the Internet that constantly failed while I was there. All in all, it's hard to complain because it was.. Nice. In a weird way. It's pretty. It's clean. But, I won't stay here again. It's not the right place for me. The space feels like a hotel with too many beds put in. Little to no soul and for €36 for two nights, not really worth it when you compare it with other options. Maybe if you have a private room and treat it as a cheap hotel, you'd have a better experience.
