We are rehabbing a 4 family in STL, MO and needed drywallers who also could repair plaster. Willis…read moreKirker and his son came and looked at the job. We clearly explained what we needed from them, to repair cracks in the plaster and to hang, tape, and mud new drywall in all 4 units. As we walked through the project, Mr Kirker and his son pointed out several places that we had hoped to repair but they said the plaster was too weak and we needed to let them tear off any loose and/or damaged plaster and replace with drywall. They presented themselves as being very professional pointing out how experienced they were with drywall and plaster. They assured us they knew how to bid the job. They presented us with a bid that we accepted and stated that they would be done with all 4 units in ~ 3 weeks saying they would be working some week-ends. We were to supply all the materials. Their bid was for $7500. They began work the last full week of May. Each week we paid them what they requested until after 3 weeks of showing up somewhat infrequently and never working a full day we began to question whether they were fulfilling their commitment. I had several conversations with Mr. Kirker about not making as much progress as they had promised considering they had received more than half their money but were still on just 1 side of the building. I explained that I did not feel comfortable with giving them anymore money until they finished at least one side (2 units) of the building and having been scammed previously by so called professionals, I was very wary of it happening again. Mr Kirker pretended to be somewhat hurt by my remarks. The general contractor talked with him also and came away feeling confident they would do what they said they would do. So once again I wrote them a check. At this point I had paid them $5640. Another week went by with them showing up periodically, they had car trouble, the son was sick, etc. They also said there was a few things they had run into unexpectedly with the job and they renegotiated with the general some additional funds. Against my better judgment and mainly because we needed the job desperately to be done and finding new people in this very busy rehab season we paid them another $1,000 and NEVER saw them again. I have no one to blame but myself but I am writing this to maybe prevent this from happening to someone else. They are scam artists and what work they did do was below par. If you are smart, do not hire them for anything!!
