I just went through my first home purchase and am glad it was Jeff who helped me through it all. Since I have nothing to compare my experience with, I will point out the stuff I enjoyed the most out of this experience: 1. Jeff is very upfront. In the initial conversation, he asked for my thoughts on home ownership, what my criteria was, where I was looking, why I was looking, what I had in mind, and what my budget was. Then he told me what neighborhoods he focuses in for sales and purchases, his own thoughts of the market and what he considers important for home specifications. It's in this initial conversation that you'll get an initial feeling of whether there's a good match -- after all, you'll want to work with someone whose interest is closely aligned with yours. So if you guys don't have common ground to work with, you can look for someone else without wasting time. 2. Initial Tour -- assessment of priorities. For a few weekends, Jeff insisted on meeting face to face and showed me what's available in the market based on my initial criteria. After extended conversations, I began to realize that his only important criteria is "location! location! location!" Everything else is secondary. Pretty homes always are eye-pleasers, but he always says to look at the long-term picture. 3. He responds quickly and is very easily reachable. Those who like using the Internet to communicate (e-mail, instant messages, texts, etc) will love this. Have a question but it's not urgent? Just send an email. Require something a bit more urgent but want something written down so you don't forget? Instant messaging. Don't even know how to ask the question? Just call. Having all these options is great. 4. Electronic services (e-signing). Most documents are sent over email and signed digitally, with only the very few requiring print, sign, scan or fax. This is extremely convenient -- you get digital copies of everything, no misplacing them on some filing cabinet, and they're searchable. Cuts down the turn-around time, too. 5. Jeff is extremely thorough -- I try and read every single word on every document, but there are times your eyes just gloss over the volume of text. He'll highlight them, point out the most important ones, and explain why they're important. He's even spotted a couple of things in certain documents (e.g. HOA) that I glossed over but was something I needed to consider for the long term (e.g. sub-leasing agreements). 6. You can make him an "all in one shop" -- if you need a loan broker, he's also able to offer those services. This came in handy when dealing with multiple parties -- Jeff took care of a lot of things for me. 7. He has a lot of tactics in dealing with the competitive market. It's brutal out there, but he's been there and played that game. I'm extremely happy with my experience. Every doubt I had he was able to clarify, even some of the things that are probably stupid or dumb questions. He corrected a lot of my misconceptions, and most importantly, it was very easy and comfortable to work with him. At no point did I feel that I was pressured to make a rush decision, or felt that he wasn't looking out for me (e.g. paying for something more than I could afford). He is transparent through the process, giving accurate interest rate estimates unlike others I had contacted before him who keep stalling on giving you estimates.
