The only county in the United States that touches a foreign country at a single point. This county is named after the former head of the Confederate States of America, Jefferson Davis. It's high up in the Texas mountains- I believe that this is the highest elevation county in Texas. There's lots to see and do here- it's a pretty county! Be sure to check out Fort Davis, which is a national historical site. It's an old west fort that fought off Indians and Confederates. Plus, there's Davis Mountains State Park, which is a nice place to go hiking and see some javalinas. McDonald Observatory is high up in those mountains, and offers majestic views of the nighttime skies. The telescope is run by the University of Texas, and is often available to the public for viewings. There's also a rattlesnake museum here in town that claims to have the largest collection of some sort of snake, but I didn't check that out. They also grow grapes for wine out here. This county really seems to have a different vibe than a lot of the rest of the country. There's not much else out here, other than hanging out under the big skies of West Texas. read more
