Hmm....this has been lingering in my "You have 9384892 unfinished reviews section" for the past two months, maybe I should wrap it up.
Totally different style of Indian food than I had eaten anywhere in Scotland (and we all know that they love their Indian food in the UK!). I was surprised that inside there were posters on the wall of famous chefs who had come in for a meal and loved it. Perhaps it's because I'm not a famous chef, but I certainly did not agree.
The food seemed like a dumbded-down version of Indian. The spicy dishes were mild to slightly medium. The mild dishes were waaaaay mild, but SUPERRRR garlicky. And EVERYTHING had butter. The waiter tried to tell me that all Indian food has butter in it, including the rice, which is of course ridiculous. (duh, does he know me?). The manager said that he would try to make a "special" dish for me without the butter, which turned out mediocre, but whateves. The food wasn't bad per say, but definitely not up to the typical UK standard.
The service was friendly and attentive; it seems that everything in Inverness shuts down pretty early, so when we stopped in for dinner, the streets were empty and there was only one other couple dining in -- so maybe that had something to do with it. Prices weren't too bad, but definitely not anything special enough to add stars for.
There are a handful of Indian places up in Inverness, and if you're looking to grab a bite and don't want mild food, I'd suggest trying one of the other spots first (I'm just sorry we didn't get to). read more
