A family "emergency" brought me to Colorado from California. One entire Saturday in travel, I had forgotten to eat and departed home with a piece of peanut butter bread to get me through the day. Sunday morning, I was hungry. "Emergency" stabilized and mitigated, at 0630 in Granby I was attracted by ranchers' trucks and dirt bikes. Java Lava! What a great little place. I enjoyed a MaMa's Burrito-to-go and a hazelnut latte for me and a regular coffee and a chai tea for family. Spectacular! I just can't imagine why anyone would go to the mega-location coffee place down the street when the coffee-seeker could come here and enjoy a real hand crafted java beverage!?! Thank you, Christy. One of the worst breakfast burritos I've ever had, and I've had a lot of bad (and great) ones. Not sure where these other folks have been getting their burritos...Food tastes like it's straight off the Sysco truck. Super bland green chili. Best thing about this place is the coffee which doesn't even compare to the stuff up the street at Lionhead. Good selection for what we thought was a grab and go coffee shop. They offer a full breakfast service. We needed coffees and bagels for the road. Friendly cashier helped us decide on a sugar free creme brûlée latte and a cappuccino. The drinks came out super fast! The bagels were ordered as toasted with cream cheese. 20 minutes later we got untoasted bagels wrapped in foil from a disinterested worker. Lol! Glad they were open on a holiday! Java Lava does it right in so many ways... The service was excellent. Even though you order at the counter, the staff works fast to get drinks in your hands within minutes of ordering and brings everything else to your table as soon as the kitchen turns it out. The food was all made to order. I had the Huevos Rancheros, the rest of the family had the breakfast burrito, and a bagel with lox. The green chili on the Huevos was AWESOME! Just the right amount of heat to compliment the homemade flavor. We loved it so much we went back the next day to do it all over again. Can't wait to visit Winter Park/Granby again so I can visit Java Lava. read more

Keep in mind, this is a mountain town so you can't really compare them to the options and competition in cities. They had great service and a relaxed atmosphere. My lox and cream cheese was pretty basic, but the coffee was good. read more

Menus was poor in vegetarian choices. No vegan choices. Anywhere I ordered breakfast they normally include toast with breakfast but at this places my order came like a side and no toast. The price was the same as a normal full breakfast. read more

W great surprise early on a Sunday. The only place we could find to grab a bite (besides McDonalds). Great coffee, delicious smothered burrito, and the bacon was "awesome" according to my dad. Went 3 times in two days. Excellent breakfast and coffee. Huevos Rancheros was excellent. Even chef salad was great surprise.

We have had their Mama's breakfast burrito twice during our stay and it is fantastic. We've tried it both from the heated oven (they are popular so they premake a bunch of you can "grab and go" if they aren't sold out) and made fresh and both times they did not disapoint. We added bacon to one and sausage to the other, again both fantastic. Would also add that their customer service was really great, even when very busy. Love that we can support a small local business and get an awesome breakfast. read more

Been a local coming to this place for years, and never have been disappointed!Highly recommend either the mamas or christys burritos (which they make for quick grab-n-go customers), the g-town skillet, or the biscuits-n-gravy! Every single employee is very nice, talkative(if you've got a minute haha), super friendly, and professional. I Will forever put my loyalty behind them, and you should too! Terrific food, but don't go unless you have plenty of time. That being said, the food and view was terrific! The pull apart was to die for, and the fresh fruit was wonderful; the hoku sandwich with ham and cheddar was terrific -- beautifully prepared. However, the service was a serious issue. We told the server we had to leave shortly after breakfast and was assured it was no problem. After the meal, we waited about 10 minutes, and the server never turned up again. We had to find another server to take our card, and then the card didn't appear for another 10 minutes. At that point, we were about to miss our next event, so I went inside to the counter to ask, and both servers were extremely curt and rude, and they got the cards mixed up. Eventually it worked out, but I had to literally run to the next event. EDIT: Went back a second time. Food and drink were excellent, but it took forever to get the check. read more

It was okay you order at the counter . Coffee is terrible watered down go get the beagle coffee down the road. Burrito is probably the way to go I had to get extra jalapeños. But after all it's the only sit down breakfast place for a large group. It's okay Il not saying it's fabulous. $4.00 for a cup of coffee ! They are not Starbucks but hey your in the mountains. The coffee is good but what I like the most is how the place was set up. The front is good for group gathering or those who don't mind a little noise. Then there is a little corridor that connects the front to the back room. The back is for people who need to work and require a little quietness. The staff is very friendly.
