We were in the store in May. Sales consultant assured us that our furniture would be delivered…read morequickly and not affected by COVID as the couch was in Tauranga already and it was just a matter of putting it on the truck. This is one of the reasons we ended up purchasing the couch - the promise of a quick delivery. She told us at the time that Hunter Furniture prides itself on exceeding the stated delivery date on the sale agreement (in this case June). We didn't hear anything further, got to the end of June and followed up with an email to find out where our couch was. Were told it was still awhile away. At this point we also noticed the couch had dropped in price. When we politely complained we were offered store credit for the price difference. We have no intention to purchase more furniture currently and so requested the store credit be converted to a refund instead. The response was frankly pretty rude and they were not willing to do anything for us. Our last email went unanswered. We do appreciate delays can happen, but it is unusual for a sales assistant to assure us with great confidence the product would be delivered well before the estimated delivery time, and then for it to arrive late. The reason we made the purchase decision at Hunter Furniture was because of this assurance we had that the stock would be delivered before the estimated date, and our presumption that Hunter Furniture was a premium store who stood by what their sales assistants are telling you in the store. The sales representative told us at the time "we pride ourselves on our delivery estimates, I have added an extra two weeks on to when I expect the couch to be delivered just so I can be sure it will get to you before this date. We aren't like other stores who promise a delivery date just to make a sale". We put trust into the sales team at Hunter Furniture thinking it was a premium store which doesn't just promise the customers things to try and make a sale. Obviously we were wrong in this assumption and we're disappointed by our experience here. The price we paid for the couch was 30% higher than similar couches in other stores, but I didn't trust we would get the couches from these other stores in any reasonable timeframe. The fact that we feel we have been misled, and didn't have the couch when we saw that Hunter Furniture was selling it for cheaper is salt in the wound in this experience.
