Wow!!!! If I could beat on those huge drums all day like this young Taiko ensemble does, I would be stress free for the rest of my life!!! In all seriousness, though, the Tsukasa Taiko Japanese drumming ensemble is absolutely amazing. The dedication, rhythm, endurance, sharpness and cohesiveness vibrates through your bones with each beat. Their performance is inspiring and gets you pumped up.
The youngest of the bunch is around five years old (he is so good, he is actually an advanced student!) and it goes up from there. I could not believe the talent that these rhythmic geniuses have. Taiko is interpreted in English as "large drum" and unless there is a solo or duo performance, there are usually about 6-12 drummers playing a set accompanied by flutes and a Japanese guitar. Some numbers had brass chime. The choreogrphy was on point and absolutely phenomenal. The costumes were beautiful and the whole experience intense!
I originally knew that they played every year at the MCA so I tried about a month and half in advance to get tickets, but they were sold out. Luckily, they had a performance last weekend at the Museum of Science and Industry. You can check out their website to find out about upcoming shows and they offer workshops and classes to everyone. They are worth tracking down and are a singular experience. Trust me, you will be amazed! read more
