Oh my.
I cannot quite express how much I love the Japanese Gallery. I've never been a massive art fan - for one reason or another I struggled to find art which really resonated with me. Given that I spent a good hour and a half in the Japanese Gallery wide-eyed and thumbing through pretty much every available print they have says it all.
The collection of ukiyo-e prints is really something - generally broken down into different themes (wildlife, Kabuki, beauties, battles, landscapes, etc.). As well as this, the JG also offers more contemporary items such as film release posters (giant Totoro, anyone?), modern art pieces, and some anime cels. The downstairs section is small but houses larger pieces.
I'll definitely be back here in the future - as well as wanting to buy everything, I found the staff to be really nice here. The sheer volume of items on sale makes it a great place to browse - highly recommended for something a little different! read more
