Noticed a bad review commenting about how old the good reviews were for Janet's cakes. So, I thought I'd leave my own review for the record. I have been a 36-year customer. I bought my oldest child's first birthday cake here when we moved here in 1990. When that same child graduated from law school in another state, Janet's did the celebration cake and I drove that cake 15 hours to her graduation. I buy at least 6 cakes there every year and I literally have only had to complain about one cake! By my calculations, I have bought and devoured at least 186 cakes from Janet's! :) When you order a cake, they ask how many are you serving? I always tell them to make the sheet cake that feeds 15-20 people even though there are only 6 of us eating it. Why? Because every last morsel is consumed within days of bringing it home! I love that Janet's employee Joy knows my name whenever I call or pick up. I love that my business is appreciated and that even when good workers are hard to find, they are still open and doing business. My family would be so disappointed if anything happened to this business. I am traveling soon to visit family for another birthday and I'm taking a Janet's Cake with me because even my extended family loves their cakes! A couple of weeks ago, I needed a birthday cake and I needed it fast to celebrate a birthday of one of my stellar employees for that afternoon. On the drive to Corpus Christi, I called Janet's Cakery and asked if they could make a Red Velvet birthday cake for 20 to 25 people with cream cheese frosting. I also asked them to decorate the cake and make it look good. Then, I had the audacity to ask, can you deliver the cake to me in downtown Corpus by 2 pm. These folks accepted the challenge and met and exceeded my expectations. Now y'all know that I am a pretty particular woman when it comes to my food and I do not toss out 5 star ratings Willy Nilly. However, I am so happy to report that Janet's Cakery delivered a delicious and beautiful cake to the office--on time. I just wished that I had remembered to take a picture of the cake, but I did not. Zero stars. If you notice all "good" reviews are from years ago. I went in earlier this week. And as always, month after month this place is getting worse & worse! Cookies are NEVER fresh, you're better off getting fresh cookies at the grocery store they are so much better, fresh and cheaper too. Take a peak at the back and you'll notice MOLD on ceilings. The most disgusting floors. I feel like the place is being taken over by clutter, mold, bugs & rodents. It "looks" like the company only cares about hoarding then keeping the place clean, a place where they serve food to the public. Not clean. Not worth my money anymore, or my time. They're system Terminal on two separate occasions has over charged me and yet on their side it shows up as "cancelled" they will repeatedly swipe my card putting hundreds of dollars on HOLD and tell me I'm out of luck leaving me with NO cake and NO MONEY. when I tried to explain this to the owner she rudely turned her body away from me cutting me off and said "oh well" my family and I literally used this cakery for every family birthday and occasion so it's sad to see her act this way on two separate occasions. My sister-in-law picked up a chocolate icing on chocolate cake from Janet's for my 53rd birthday. I was a bit hesitant with so much chocolate. As an RN, I joke that America's healthcare system is fueled by caffeine and chocolate. But a chocolate cake with chocolate icing? Can it possibly be delicious? Have no fear, it was exceptional! I am not a big icing fan. Seldom do I find icing on anything to my liking. Oh my gosh, I could have swam in a 55 gallon vat of this chocolate icing. Just perfect. Not too sweet, excellent base flavors, and just the right amount. The cake was moist and delicate. I cannot find the words except to say I could not have asked for a better cake. The decorative colors, looking like confetti and streamers across the cake, were brilliant and placed perfectly. I was impressed that the bright colored icing was not bitter in the slightest. Been here twice in the last few mo this, not for a cake but just a couple of cream puffs and cupcakes and a coffee cake. Very nice lady helped me, great service. Wanted chocolate cupcake with chocolate frosting-they didn't have any made up but put them together for me no problem. Hubby loves their cream puffs. The coffee cake is wonderful. Fresh and tasty. I ordered my sons cake twice once the week before Thanksgiving and again when I arrived to pick up our Thanksgiving pies (they lost my order) I drove in to pick it up today over a hours drive. Come one people, everyone works hard for their money and they expect to get what they paid for, mind you they are not cheap. If you know they are old, you should do the right thing and "discount" them. Instead you chose the other. I just went this past weekend and ordered a dozen cupcakes. I got all three flavors, white, chocolate and strawberry, while they all looked good, they were ALL HARD. Anyone could tell that they were not fresh, but definitely days old. How to you sell that knowing they are old? You expect your money, well I also would like my money used on something worth eating. They all went in the trash. FAILURE HUNDRED FOLD. My family ordered a tiered cake for our mother's 90th birthday. It was ordered and paid for two weeks before the birthday party. Less than a week before the pickup date we received a call to verify the order. On the pickup day we went to pick the cake and and found out much to our shock there was no cake! The birthday party was delayed 2 hours so that a cake could be made. The cake was very delicious and decorated nicely but having to wait for a pre-ordered pre-paid cake was not acceptable. Last year the same thing happened to our niece's sweet 16 party. The order for her pre- paid tiered cake was not ready on the day of the party either. Our suggestion is to continually call the store up until the day before the event to insure the making of the cake. read more

We've been customers since the late 1990's and not once have they disappointed us. We had our wedding cake made with them as well as more birthday and special event cakes than I can remember. Even our special requests are taken care of. They also have a variety of fresh baked cookies that are to die for. This year we're trying their fruit cake along with the usual Christmas cookies. They made a Yule Log for us one year. Yep. That was good, too. The owners Pat and Janet are wonderful people with good hearts, which shines through in their baked goods. I love the smell when I walk in there. It takes me back to my childhood and the old fashioned bakery my momma would take me to for my favorite treat, a gingerbread man. Very basic cake. I ordered a chocolate cake and gave specific details that I wanted a purple ombré and I got a straight line of purple then a line of white. It came out so funny looking. I bake cakes from the box for fun sometimes and the cake tasted just like that. Passing through H‑E‑B they have cakes that are the same size as the one I got but for $25. I often call Janet's to order a cake on short notice. The last few times, the women who usually answers has been short, talks over you and handles the transaction in a robotic and impersonal manner. I usually ignore it but yesterday, I brought it to her attention and instead of apologizing she puts me on hold to basically hang up or end the conversation. I hate seeing a company that has been in business for years become complacent or uncaring. I don't think I'll return and hope someone else points this out before they lose more business. As far as the cake, it's good but sadly no longer better tasting than HEB or another local cake shop. I enjoy supporting small businesses however, I'll go elsewhere from now on.
