The ziplines were gorgeous, safe, and such a thrill, but the guides truly made it next level. It didn't feel rushed or routine at all. The color of Mauna Kea with the moon shining on it was so magical all around us. There were some clouds that cleared pretty well by the end of our star gazing. We were the last ones up there so it got dark enough to see more than you'd expect with the moon. Jeff, our awesome tour guide, used a laser pointer to help us see the constellations we usually can't back at home. The images on the digital telescope like nebulas, the moon & star clusters were an amazing addition to have as keepsakes. My husband and I felt he made the tour a great balance of learning and fun. He had the group feeling like family before we even left from the pickup lot. Things to consider: I do recommend following the moons cycles booking this tour/your trip if this is especially important for you to see as many stars as possible. The sunset and views of the observatory's make it awesome anyways :) I struggled with altitude sickness around 12,000 ft. Jeff had made sure to let us know beforehand if we experienced any issues to speak up. I was hesitant as I know it would mean turning the whole tour around, but some tingling turned to dizziness and then a brief fainting. He immediately stopped the bus and helped ground me and make sure I was completely okay & coherent before letting me know our options for the tour. We made it up to the top with 2 more (included in tour) stops and I felt better with each one having more time to acclimate :) Thank you Jeff!! You handled this so professionally and I appreciate your check-ins for the rest of the trip. It's cold even with parka and gloves. It's so worth packing warm shoes and layers. The bus had ac and heat so that was great! Do it if you can! Awe-inspiring! Such an unreal environment that makes you wonder about so many things. Just take the precautions seriously, move slow and breathe deep.

By playing with light they create photos that are fun, unique, and all around just really cool. They were set up at Requiems one year anniversary, an event in Sacramento for a local company. He had us sit on a couch and be still while he used various light toys to make patterns as the picture took. Afterwards, you get a printed copy to keep and the digital copies are posted online. It was a super fun addition to the event and we all got some awesome photos. Tips: You can't move while the picture is being taken because it will come out blurry, but in some of the pictures the tiny bit of blur actually came out pretty cool.

The power went out and the dance floor was pretty much shot. Drinks were winding down and some people had already gone home because it was already pretty late. But guess what was still running on a backup generator? The mothertrucking photo booth. We really only had like 45 minutes left at the venue, but the party continued in the dark with all these crazy lights going off while Reid did his thing. To top it off, the printer wasn't working because of said power issue, but he mailed prints of all photos which I was able to distribute to my guests afterwards. He included this super cool opalescent rock, which I'm basically going to treasure forever. You've seen the photos. His services are on the pricey side, but come on. You get what you pay for. I've had so many people tell me that my wedding was one of the most memorable they'd been to exclusively because of the long exposure photo booth. Book him now before everyone else catches on.

He answered all of our questions before (and during!) the tour and made us feel comfortable with everything. Our day began with Shawn picking us up at our hotel. We had no idea what to expect as this was our first time doing a private tour. The initial ride before our first stop was fairly long, but Shawn was able to use this time to give us a tour of the island and fill us in on the history of the island. You can tell how much Shawn loves what he does and how much he loves the island. Shawn has an incredible and impressive amount of knowledge about everything and anything Big Island, you can feel his passion for learning and his passion for sharing this knowledge throughout the tour. Our kids (9 and 13) were easily entertained and engaged by Shawn's knowledge and approach. This is by no means a tour just for families, it would be perfect for anyone, but Shawn effortlessly adapted the information for kids and adults. Spending an entire day with a stranger could be hard but Shawn is so friendly that we quickly felt like we were spending the day with a friend. During our tour we had to make some changes on the go and Shawn was able to adapt quickly and had some alternatives ready to go. Shawn really helped to make this tour feel special and personal. On top of all of this, Shawn had everything we needed-snacks, drinks, rain coats, and head lamps! He made it so easy to pack for this tour. We can't recommend Backroad Adventures enough. Premium Kau Coffee, Macnuts, chocolate, short bread, slushies, pizza (on the day we were there) made by two Italian guys. Yes please! After we gorged on free samples and margarita pizza, we went on a shopping spree at the well stocked gift shop (not sure if that's the correct term, maybe farmstand?). Since we spent a certain amount on goodies, a discount was given along with free shipping to Alaska (what?!?). It makes me so happy just knowing that places like this exist.
