When I move to Orlando, Florida back in 2001, Oviedo was a small almost rural community on the outskirts of the northeastern part of Orlando and really did not offer much instead of being the town with chickens walking around it. The chickens are memorialized in this piece of art and rightfully so. Oviedo looks nothing like I remember it. It is now a Suburban area filled with communities much like this one. I think it is a positive. I am sure some of the old timers probably miss the area they grew up in, but as we step into each new tomorrow, progress is inevitable. The area where this mural is a perfect example. This little Park was not here. Now it is and it is surrounded by nice apartments. There are a lot of restaurants choices and things to do. As Orlando grew, the whole area did, as well. Come check out this park and while you are here, check out this piece of art.

Union Park is a neighborhood east of the downtown Orlando area. I would say that its roots are more…read moreblue collar, but with Orlando exploding with the housing market, it might be only a matter of time until we start seeing the neighborhood turn into a more pricier price point kind of like the neighborhoods just outside of downtown. Union Park is predominantly smaller, single story cement block homes. It is a nice area and is convenient to downtown Orlando, though still a nice enough distance away. The Little Econ Greenway is a nice place to walk and the area is convenient to supermarkets, places to eat and all of that.

It was sited in 1982, moved in 2012 and is scheduled to be opened in December of 2062. I wonder what the world will be like in 2062? Oviedo has changed so much since I moved to the Orlando, Florida area back in 2001. What will the future residents think of the items that were placed in that time capsule? I love the concept of a tome capsule. It is a way for us to leave a message to the future. Perhaps now with computers, a time capsule might seem antiquated, but what a wonderful greeting from the past.

Tonight, I placed a pizza order at 6:10 PM with an estimated 30-minute delivery time, which would have been around 6:40 PM. The pizza finally arrived at 7:28 PM. When I called to check on the order, I sat on hold for about 15 minutes. Had someone answered right away, I honestly would have just said to skip the delivery and I would come pick up the pizza myself. I was hesitant to leave the house because, based on the original estimate, it should have already been arriving at any moment. What made the experience even more disappointing was the attitude on the phone. I explained that I had two young children at home waiting for dinner, and I would have expected at least some acknowledgment or apology for how late the order was. Instead, the response felt very much like, "It is what it is, and there's nothing I can do about it." There was very little concern or effort to make the situation better. The pizza arrived cold. Had I been given a realistic delivery estimate, I would have made other dinner arrangements. Pizza is supposed to be an easy, dependable option, and this experience was anything but. At this point, I'd rather order from a local pizza shop that is more consistent with both quality and delivery times. The decline in service has been disappointing, especially because this used to be a place we really enjoyed.

It is these pieces of art that gives a community (and a university is definitely a community) its personality and it is these pieces of art that will linger in your memories and will surface here and there and you will embrace these memories warmly.

This is a cool piece of art on the UCF campus between the theater and music buildings. Purchased in…read more2012, with funds from Florida's Art in State Building Program, Cyclorama is a series of four sculptures made out of red powder coated steel by artists Blessing Hancock and Joe O'Connell. According to the artists " Our goal is to give people new inspiration in their daily encounter. We create interactive art work that solves problems, enriches the human experience, and creates an atmosphere of participation, curiosity, and connection to the community." If you look closely at the sculptures you can see different story elements cut out of the steel. Some of the characters I recognized were the headless horseman, aliens, a clown, The Creature from the Black Lagoon, and Greek myths. Unlike a lot of art you aren't supposed to touch, these pieces are designed to be sat on and serve as a place people can gather. It is a kind of stage for the UCF students. At night it is lit in LED lights casting shadows through the figures cut in the steel. Cyclorama is listed as number 3 on the list of 9 Best Places to Study on UCF Campus by UCF today. It was an interesting find on a recent visit. Art you can sit ion? Now that's something I can get behind. LOL

Once she learned that our daughter is marrying a woman, she informed us she was withdrawing her services due to her "deeply held Christian religious beliefs." This was not a scheduling issue -- it was a refusal to serve a same‑sex couple. If this is her policy, she should clearly state on her website and promotional materials that she does not paint queer couples. Doing so would prevent LGBTQ+ families from wasting time and experiencing the hurt we did. For queer couples or allies seeking inclusive vendors, this is not one. Love deserves celebration, not discrimination.

Oviedo has certainly grown in the last few years and has certainly stepped out of the shadows of…read morebeing known as a quiet, sleepy place outside of Orlando, Florida into a vibrant community complete with restaurants, shopping, parks and a personality all its own. I remember when I moved down here in 2001 and woukd bring my kids to the Town House Restaurant and we would see chickens out on the streets. These chickens can be traced to the 19th century when settlers brought the birds with them as they settled in Florida. The chickens are a beloved part of Oviedo and are adorned on shirts and are represented on a mural of Oviedo in Oviedo on the Park. Speaking of Oviedo on the Park, I recommend this park. It is a great place for the community to gather. All in all, Oviedo is a great place these days to visit or call home. I would recommend a visit here.

Sleepy little suburb that is so far away from Orlando that it's almost not Orlando anymore. I once played a concert around here, which low key went well even though it was miles away from everything. I met my friends Todd and Julie here, I hope they're doing well. Definitely a sleepy nice suburban leafy area which is good for you to live in if you want to be away from the hustle and bustle and have some peace and quiet. A decent place to raise kids. Lots of unfriendly people though. There's really not too much out here and there's a lot of Republicans which I don't appreciate. Perhaps the worst element is the abundance of toll roads here, meaning Oviedo is actually quite hard to access from several different directions without paying tolls.
