Betsy did my x-rays and she was very considerate when positioning me for the machine and participated in a friendly conversation which distracted me from my shoulder worries. Dr. Garten was great as well, explaining why I was experiencing the pains in my heel and shoulder and telling me what I could do to help avoid and alleviate the pain, including a few weeks of physical therapy. He diagnosed my shoulder as impingement and let me know that it was fixable which was a relief. For the ladies who may decide to visit Paragon, lemme warn you... Dr. Garten is a little bit of a hottie. He makes a lot of direct eye contact and his baby blues are hypnotic. It was all I could do not to giggle while he was talking to me. But I did a great job of keeping myself together, and I hope you do too. Prior to my visit, I had to cancel and reschedule because of the recent snow in Atlanta, and Paragon was quick to respond. I also had an insurance question about my visit that I handled via email, and received a quick response for that as well. If you call and get the voice mail, leave a message because they'll call you back fairly quickly or the next day. You'll have to pay for parking to visit Paragon. It's located in the Northwest Medical Offices (inside the west building with the big W on the side). The parking isn't expensive at $2 for up to 30 min and $3 for up to 60 min. The rates go up after that, but I didn't capture how high. Overall, two thumbs up!

Due to my former job with the Atlanta Hawks and Thrashers, Dr. Hoadley sent me to Dr. Garten. Finding the place wasn't hard, and it's in one of the nicest housing areas of Atlanta you'll see (West Paces Ferry Rd). Parking was a breeze (you will pay $5 to park), and then his office was in the West Tower on the 2nd Floor (there is also an East Tower). Walking in, I found the office space to be very clean and seemed to be very new. Maybe it was just all the modern furniture. I was the only one there (must have been the first patient at 9AM), and got checked in right away. The front desk lady was very nice. It wasn't long before I was called back and waited. I had handed the lady my MRI cd and notes, and she had me wait while Dr. Garten reviewed it. I certainly didn't mind the 10 minute wait or so. Walking in, Dr. Garten was very friendly and I just loved his demeanor. I went over a brief history of my running, and he had me hop up on the table and lie down. It took him literally three minutes to hit the pain points. He mentioned he reviewed my MRI and went over what was ailing me, but had wanted to check the spots first. It was SUCH a relief to hear. It was more a relief to hear that my injury wouldn't require surgery, and that a steroid pack plus PT should resolve it. Even better, someone in his family had the same injury as mine, so he referred to a PT that could handle it. I'm certainly a happy customer, b/c of the service I received and also the immediate result of knowing what was wrong. I would refer Dr. Garten to anybody. Great bedside manner and accurate diagnosis.

He also is very personable and takes time to listen and talk. I am very pleased with the outcomes of the surgeries -they were both surgeries that used fairly new technology-Dr Gilloglly is the only orthopedist in Atlanta that had done this type of surgery many times. He also teaches other surgeons and does research in this area. I would recommend Dr Gillogly for family and close friends. I am very grateful for having a surgeon I could trust and that someone with his expertise and knowledge about the latest technologies in ortho surgery is in Atlanta . There is a physical therapy clinic in the practice. All the therapists seem excellent-I worked with Cara, who is very professional and knowledgable. They have PT Assistants who were not always as focused or attentive as I would have liked-but they are overseen by the physical therapists who know what they are doing. It is a big benefit to have the PT clinic within the practice because of the enhanced communication between the surgeon and the the therapist. Post op check-ups at the same time as PT appointments as Dr G. does rounds in the PT area and the therapist is part of the appointment. The therapists know the 2 surgeons (one other besides Gillogly) well (they have all been there a long time), they know the types of surgeries done at the practice, and the surgeons can educate them, in person, when there is a new type of surgery,etc. My only complaint was the insurance department. I was mystified why this office kept on an insurance person that was so bad. Many times, I called after not hearing back when they said they would call (about attempts to get approval for surgery) and the person would say they were just going to call me. In addition, this person did not do what she had said she was going to do and got things mixed up at times. Ii tried to be friendly and patient, but when I started to question how things were being handled, I did not get the customer service I expected. I have heard from others who went to this office and loved everything but said that they experienced billing and insurance problems. We ended up working with the insurance company ourselves with appeals and succeeded to get an approval. I was very upset about all this at the time because I really needed the knee surgery and I would not have been able to pay for it on both knees. Despite the difficulties re insurance, I still HIGHLY recommend Dr Gillogly despite this issue. For the second surgery, we did self pay, and the office manager kindly worked with is on cost in a very fair manner.

Apparently, they needed help at the front desk and the person who booked me didn't look at the referral well enough. My doctor wanted me to have occupational hand therapy but I was booked with someone who didn't have that experience so I had to come in the next day. I was explained the differences in each type of hand therapy. Regular hand therapy is like someone picking up a pen. Occupational hand therapy is helping someone hold the pen and write. Once I knew all that, I was ready to come to my appointment. Trust me, I was not all 100% happy. First of all, this location requires a parking fee which you don't get a stamp for. I was there for only 30 minutes since I filled out paperwork and all. I still had to pay $4 for parking. I wasn't looking forward to come in the next day to drive and pay again. It's not like it's close to my house. It isn't too far from my job so that's why I decided to come. In my mind, I'm hoping my physical therapy sessions won't last long. Plus I already paid my co-pay. I came in the next morning but didn't see the lady who I saw the prior day. I was a little disappointed cause I particularly asked if any of them would be there the next day cause I didn't want to explain again what was going on. I told her a bit what was going on and she saw the notes. I had to fill out a few questions on the Ipad about my condition before continuing. When I finally saw the occupational hand therapist. She was very friendly and even apologized about the mixed up with me. I thought that was sweet and going the right way. I had to show my hand, wrist, finger movements on both my hands and she took measurements to compare to my left hand what is "normal" for me. It was very detailed. I put my hand through a heated massaging machine that contain grounded corn which feels like sand for ten minutes. It felt good. Then she massaged my hand on the scar area and advised me how to massage it and make sure to do it daily so my scar would appear less and inflammation would go down. She used a small electronic massager on me too. It didn't hurt but I'm not used to the pressure in the area but I know I have to do this to get better quicker. Afterwards, she showed me exercises to do daily 2-3 times a day, 10-15 repetitions. I wasn't able to do all the exercises but she says the goal is to do all of them for faster recovery. I have to see her twice a week for four weeks. My follow-up for the orthopedic doctor will be in three weeks. Looking forward my right hand to be "back to normal". 17/2019

The intake process was fairly quick and painless including filling out just a few new patient forms. Before I was done, I was being taken back to an exam room by nursing. Within 5 minutes, they took new images of my injury and I then waited less than another 5 minutes to see Dr. Lahiji. While not overly friendly/charismatic, he was courteous, professional, and clear in his explanation of my injury and the management. He was even kind enough to print out my X-ray to demonstrate exactly what he was describing. His nurse was kind and helpful in showing me how to tape my injury at home before I left. I spent 45 minutes there from parking to driving out of the garage. I couldn't have asked for a better experience on such short notice.
