I've been here twice and have loved it both times. Only reason it's 4 stars is there's usually a wait to get in and it can take some time. Once in, it is a real gem! Fairly small place but lots of tables. This place tends to more of a dive bar than an Irish Bar in my opinion but who can't love a dive bar with the name The James Joyce!! We were here late into the night visiting with friendly people we had met there and I can say I'm not sure if they do mixed drinks or food. Just went in and enjoyed multiple beers with 50 of my closest friends. If that's what you're looking for (and who isn't) this is the place for you. Just remember it's crowded and somewhat of a dive. James Joyce - Christmas markets outside the pub - Irish Pub Near Me - Bonn, NW

When I first moved to Bonn, back in 2006, I used to visit this bar quite regularly with a friend of mine. It was run by a really nice girl and offered great service; a really fun pub. Last Friday, my wife suggested we go there and try their fish & chips. This isn't the only Irish pub in Bonn and they all serve this traditional British dish, which is unavailable anywhere else. If you want 'British' fish & chips, you have to go to an Irish pub and we were very close to this one so decided to give it a try. Bad move. On arrival, we had to wait ten minutes for anyone to come and take our order, so she opted for half a Guinness and I asked for a large pils. The pils, I'm pretty sure had been tampered with by having ullage returned to the barrel. I requested a local 'Kölsch', which was much better. Half way through this second drink, the 'food' arrived. On the menu it said only 'fish & chips'; no description whatsoever. What arrived looked like supermarket-bought breaded fish fillets with frozen chips. Nothing like the dish one would reasonably expect in an Irish pub. To be fair, there was no description, so we were guilty of assumption, but when we asked the waitress about it, she kept repeating that she understood our disappointment but that is the way they serve it. She went to speak to her boss, who approached our table with the Bill containing the full charge. Bearing in mind that we hadn't eaten anything, she was extremely rude and completely unwilling to even consider any compromise, conciliatory gesture or understanding. It was a case of 'tough'. End of story. We paid and then gave the food to the young group of guys on the next table, who told us that they liked going to the pub to drink, but not to eat. We then went to The Fiddlers Irish pub in Endenich, where we had exactly what we were expecting in the first place. I worked in pubs for about five years and understand that you get difficult customers, but we were not being awkward. We had what we felt was a genuine issue which was met with total indifference, disdain and disrespect, which was completely unwarranted. read more

The actual pub is pretty and there are lots of nice rooms upstairs. Really nice old building. The location is also handy. And of course you can get a lot of the drinks you get in England/Ireland. It does seem to be run by a bunch of kids, though. It can be difficult to get anyone's attention. They will straight-up ignore you if they feel like it. They seem more interested in talking to each other than actually selling drinks. There also seem to be different people all the time. Probably more the owners' fault than anything. Wouldn't avoid completely but keep your expectations low and make sure to order at the bar or you'll be waiting forever. read more

Definitely the best irish pub in Bonn. The location is downtown, so it's perfect to stop by before you want to hit the club or if you just want hang out with a couple friends. The service and the people are really nice. They have a wide range of different drinks. Watch out for their specials and you can really save some money ;-) They have a pool table and darts. read more

Still the worst staff of any pub I know. Different people, same poor quality. Weird. I guess the owners really do not care.
