As a business owner I wish they would be more proactive in providing guidance about how to save on taxes. I have learned that most accountants are very transactional and only focus on filing taxes, but some are passionate about helping their clients save taxes and guide them effectively and proactively. For the type of $ this office charges, I would have hoped they would be more proactive, but that was not the case. Nevertheless if you're looking for a competent accountant, they're wonderful. If you're looking for guidance, they will answer all your questions but won't go out of their way to guide or teach you towards best ways to manage business from a tax/accounting perspective.

I have done my own taxes for years, as they continue to make the software easier…read more Every year I ask: - Did I do this right? - Is this everything I can claim? - Should I buy the upsells these other companies charge? - I don't have a lot of things so it doesn't matter who I use right? And every year I would pay the other companies the upsell to have someone review my work and typically I always got the "all clear" from their accounts. My returns were fluctuating greatly while my salary was not. There would be years of modest salary increases but my taxes would fluctuate. The first time I worked with Malcolm he was very professional and asked lots of questions. He was asking about things that I never thought would matter for taxes and somethings I did know. Everything was submitted in an encrypted portal so no worries about security. He also took the time to walk through the process, explain what deductions he was working on, why and how he came up with that. While I don't understand everything I am more confident with someone who knows the law. We even had a letter about old tax issues I had and his response was "I'll take care of it" and he did! So yes, you can go to the other sites and get this done in 20 min and even ask for a loan now but from experience you are not getting everything you deserve with them unless you pay for their full pro services and even then you are still just a number they are trying to hit before tax season. Also using those other companies if you want a copy of a return after you have to pay them AGAIN! Stop paying all these hidden fees for the convenience of doing your taxes while at work and let Malcolm do them right, the first time.
