This museum is located on the Wichita State University campus! I was there for a swim camp for the…read moreweek, using the pool. What a very successful week and fun for many, in the pool! The museum was full of facts and it even awakened childhood memories! Back in the day, I was reading books just so I could earn a personal pan pizza. That media push and incentive helped cultivate me to become an amazing reader and a love for reading--even though I just love autobiographies. It's very small and will take you about 30 minutes to bask in all the things "Pizza Hut". Super cool!!

I showed up just after closing time but luckily the sun was still doing overtime. Pressing my nose…read moreto the glass like a kid outside a candy store, I could still see plenty of the memories and memorabilia inside. Many old photos, retro signage and that unmistakable "this is where it all started" energy. Even from the wrong side of the door, it's still pretty cool. Pizza Hut was founded here in Wichita in 1958 by brothers Dan and Frank Carney. After decades of expansion and multiple ownership changes, it is currently in the process of being sold by Yum! Brands to a capital company and a Chinese partner. The chain struggled in recent years due to declining US sales, increased competition and the rise of delivery-first rivals with lower costs. The latest news is that the sale is expected to close later this year, marking the first time since the 1970s that Pizza Hut will not be owned by PepsiCo or Yum. A sad new chapter. (Just don't ask me how many Pizza Huts I've reviewed because I wasn't helping them much.) This now joins my growing collection of "firsts" that includes the first Starbucks in Seattle, the first Dunkin in Quincy, the first Timmy's in Hamilton and now the birthplace of the Hut. This is probably the most comprehensive War Memorial Park I've ever visited! The Veterans of each…read morewar have been memorialized, plus there is a Bicentennial Flag Pavilion, Gold Star Wives of America, POW*MIA, Purple Heart, American Gold Star Mothers, Pearl Harbor, Merchant Marines, and the crew members who lost their lives on U.S. Submarines after WWII, among others! It took close to an hour to walk along and appreciate all of the memorials. There was so much to appreciate at each memorial. The Korean War Memorial was unique! It had an Asian styled entrance. It was pretty cool! When you looked through it, you could see the Map of Korea. Beyond that, there is a soldier on top of a pedestal with tributes to each of the Branches of Military. I took a picture of each plaque which also gives you a different vantage point of the soldier on top of the pedestal. I also was fascinated with the 15 flags flying high! Each flag has shows the changes in the United States through the years. Did you know that there is a specific flag for the Commander-In-Chief? This Park is just steps away from the Arkansas River. We were walking along the path next to the river when we spotted this and decided to take a closer look. So glad we did! I had not seen memorials for a lot of the Wars memorialized here. Sad to say there have been a lot of conflicts, but it's really cool that this spot in Kansas paid tribute to the Veterans and their families. In case you never make it here, I have added a slew of photos, so you can view them. I highly recommend y'all to make it out here. I am grateful to our Veterans & their families for the freedoms we can enjoy because of your sacrifices!

True hidden gem In Wichita-why was this not already on YELP is beyond words!…read more The walking memorial was tranquilizing and beautiful! Nestled and stretched out over several acres along the Arkansas river (directly across Exploration Place) Lots of pride and respect was given to each war, personalized bricks and dedication signs. US Navy Submarine-had a real MK-14 torpedo and the Merchant Marine-is not very often displayed in most Military memorial parks, from what I hear. Operations Freedom-honoring fallen troops in Iraq and Afghanistan was impressive and had a life size kneeling bronze soldier. The New American Revolutionary War Memorial is started and looks like it should be done this year. Some others: Korean War, POW-MIA, Pearl Harbor, US Marines, WWII and Vietnam Vets No doubt, a visit is mandatory...Wichita residents-bring your children to teach/show respect for those who served for our country.
