Our parents used the Estate Planning Group (attorney - Jake Whitmire) to draft their living trust…read more Since that time our father has passed away and our mother has been seeking Jake's assistance in updating the trust (amend or restate). However, after leaving several phone messages and emails with his office there has been no response...possibly no longer in business or simply no longer interested in helping with living trusts...?

Their office did not forward me a copy of the trust for reasons never shared with me to this date. August 1, 2020 I sent their office a letter stating my sister could list and sell the property she had left us, as she is local and I live out of state. I received no reply from EPG, and still no copy of the trust. Earlier this year, It became obvious my sister was unable to fulfil the task of selling the property, and I reached out to the EPG to obtain a copy of the trust and execute my duties as Trustee in order to list and sell the property myself. June 29, 2022 (two years with no contact whatsoever from their office) I sent an email with my intentions. It took a while and multiple calls and emails to receive a response. I was informed the file was in storage off-site and they would need to retrieve it and contact me thereafter. Weeks worth of calls and emails were placed with EPG following. I'm sorry to say that as of this writing I still have not received a copy of the trust. I am greatly saddened and extremely disappointed in my deceased mothers choice to go with this firm. August 23, 2022 I received an email from Jack which states "Under the conflict of interest rules for attorneys, I won't be able to represent you since I gave advice to [my sister] in the past. I wish I could, but it is forbidden. I can definitely get you a copy of the trust for your review." It's odd that he is forbidden to speak with the named Trustee. I would never recommend using the EPG to anyone based upon my experience. The handling of my mothers affairs is not acceptable and there seems to be a track record of using the "conflict of interest" excuse based on other reviews I've seen. Because the trust is not in my inbox or mailbox as of this writing on Sept 2, 2022, I've decided to share my experience so that others may perform their own research beforehand and in hopes this information saves another from the same frustrations.

Trusts and estates are never easy to set up and manage, but especially because she was faced with two dilemmas, her own pending death, and dealing with the advancing confusion and physical disability of her husband who was living in a memory care facility. It was necessary for me to step in and take over for her asap. There are two lawyers for this office, David Seulean and Philip Taylor, who work seamlessly together, even offering home and hospice visits. They both made themselves available to come to her bedside, where we met to discuss her wishes and notarize documents. We realized she had very little time left, but thankfully she was still able to make complex decisions and fully communicate. David and Philip both swiftly guided us expertly for the making of the wills, Power of Attorney documents for both her and her husband, and their Advanced Health Directives. Next, she really needed a Trust, and yes, thankfully, he had just enough time to complete it. Nothing came easy when it came to the bank, either. David even had to step in to help, meeting with the bank manager and interacting with the legal department. I was quite clueless, and really appreciated his making time to deal with their issues. Working with him was such a joy and relief during this stressful time. He has a very special, cheerful demeanor that I found to be very calming. He and his associate, Philip, and office assistant, Rebecca, are solid professionals and a blessing to work with. They tirelessly provided a wealth of information that helped me and my sister get through times we were completely unprepared for. A word to the wise. You just never know when you will need professional help such as this. Not everyone can be so lucky in getting things done so expeditiously. I firmly recommend this be made a top priority long for yourselves and loved ones, while still in good health. In my case, the ground work was done, but the aftermath continues to be complicated and surprising at many turns. I still rely on David for answers. I am so glad he is there for me.
