Since…read moreI've been in Australia, I came to the realization that I shouldn't put anyone through the shock and horror that ensues when glimpsing my bare, white legs. So I started to spray tan. I have tried a couple different places in the Surry Hills / Paddington area, but I think the best has been Diva Beauty. I first decided to try this little parlor because I was short of time and needed a spray before heading out for a holiday. I called in the morning and booked in for later in the afternoon. I got there (exfoliated and wearing my loose black clothing, as instructed) and had to wait for nearly an hour and a half until they took me back. Now to be fair, I had called and changed the time of my appointment at midday, but it seems like that length of a wait still wasn't warranted. Either way, the girl that did my spray really knew what she was doing. She gave me nice even color without the freakish "surfer tan" look, i.e. extra dark face and hands. The shop was comfortable and clean and even though being sprayed with cold, sticky mist while naked inside a tent is an odd experience, Diva Beauty was comfy and professional.

Con - The downside of being quick is it is a little painful. I think the wax they use isn't the best quality which explains the difference in price. But I would still recommend going there (unless you are very sensitive).

Fantastic! Just…read morehad an appointment with Shannon. She is very good; took the time to talk to me, get to know what I wanted, and make suggestions on what she thought I might like. The experience started with a quick massage, some aromatherapy, and a freshly made coffee. She did some cutting then a wash of the hair (in a heated massage chair I should add). Some final touch up cuts, a style, and I was done. Not rushed but no lollygagging either. One of the stylists was trying to give away glasses of champagne; which I would have definitely taken her up on, if I didn't have to go back to work! Overall and excellent experience that I will gladly go back to!

I got a haircut on George St. and didn't like it, and he was able to fix it. Gus was humble & checked in with his trainer for a 2nd opinion throughout the cut and very friendly and thoughtful. He said he loves making people beautiful, and that was very obvious by the end. I love my hair & thoroughly enjoyed the pampering. The head massage given during the hair wash was also a huge plus. I decided to lounge the rest of the day at an outdoor cafe to further show off my beautiful cut & style. The salon is very clean, organized, has an outdoor patio, serves wine, and there was a cute dog roaming around, just like the reviews said. The hair wash stations are also dual massage chairs. A really great atmosphere & experience! Would definitely go back, even for just a blow out.

But I think I've found my regular local salon in Oscar Oscar, Paddington. I've been coming here for a while now ever since it started off as Synergy in Darlinghurst and I've haven't had a bad haircut yet (fingers crossed). The colourists are all very knowledgeable and seem to know exactly what I want. Also the stylists have the same experience and provide recommendations on the perfect balance between funky and ok to present to the office. However I have seen customers with some crazy haircuts which i wish I had the guts to get away with. Hence I think the salon caters for everybody from the polished office professional to the funky Surry Hills artist. The staff are friendly and I love the herbal tea they present you with when you sit down. The waiting time is usually short unless they are overly busy (I've waited much longer at other salons). The rapport they have with clients can be described as "eastern-suburbs" if you know what I mean, but they are not snobby or condescending. Don't you hate it when you go to an up-market hairdresser and they act that way? I've had that experience before but I haven't had one at Oscar Oscar. Definitely recommend :)

I have visited this salon maybe 4 or 5 times to get my colour done and these guys are amazing. The last time I went there just before I went to New York and a friend of mine who manages Super Models (no I won't name names) told me he LOVED my hair colour. Now if that's not a compliment I don't know what is. The thing about Toni and Guy is it is expensive but when it comes to colour I think its worthwhile making the investment. I've had a few different colourists look after me and they've all been excellent. Enjoy the pamper time - you deserve it.

My colour + toner/treatment and blow dry came to $60. So good for this city, especially as the state of my hair was so bad when i walked in that some would have called it a colour correction. So essentially you sit down with your student, they ask you plenty of questions (as they really do not want to do the wrong thing, probably more so than regular hairdressers which I am stoked about as I am a total fusspot) and then they write a few things down and report to their supervisor. They tell you exactly what they are doing so you get no surprises and then go about their business. I would say the application was similar in time to most other salons. The woman doing my hair was a gem and I found the other students working around her to be an absolute riot. The only reason this didn't get a 5 (being that I am super happy with the result!) was that there was a lesson booked an hour into my consult so my student stopped doing my hair for a while and the supervisor washed it and put the toner in. It wasn't explained to me that the two were combined so I thought I had lost the treatment which was essential given the quality of my straw hair. Anyway, it all came good and the colour has settled really nicely after a few washes and hasn't all run out (this has happened to me before at a different salon). Big thumbs up! Probs would go up to 4.5 actually :D but it's not available on yelp
