I especially like their well-made capuccino (even with soy milk). I haven't tried many of their coffee sorts, but there is a huge selection for all machines and of all kinds (I bought Espresso Napolitano). One can find their coffee in several places in the city. Go if you're a true coffee fan, or if, like me, you spent some time in Italy and miss a good cup. (There is also coffee to go and they sell reusable cups with a free refill. Clearly not a place for working especially when the roasting machine is on, but it has a nice coffeechurchcult kind of atmosphere.)

If you're a coffee junkie, this is the place to go. I had a fresh brewed Nicaragua Maragogype and it was just a blessing. I loved it in every single way. Plus you get to see the master roaster in action roasting the coffee beans just in the middle of the shop. The smell is wonderful and adds a lot to the already great experience. Lucky me this place is a few blocks away from my work, so i'm going to be here a lot.

They offer different brewing methods from a syrupy espresso in a La Marzocco to aero press and pour overs. If you ever find yourself on this side of the world and missing great coffee, this is your place!

They also have the roaster in the back so coffee is roasted on site. The coffee is nicely roasted, and they serve a wide range of hand brewed filter coffee. They offered six different coffees when I was there and I sampled all. The standout one was the Ethiopian as well as the Guatemala but they were all good. For espresso based beverages they offer two different espressos one Brazilian and one Ethiopian. Very different but both very good. I personally preferred the Ethiopian one on its own and the Brazilian went excellent with milk based coffees. They also serve some nice pastries and cakes. I tried the gooseberry cake and that was really delicious. Couple that with friendly, fast and knowledgeable service and you have a winner! What could improve to make it a five you may ask? I would say more food options as well as more seats - yes I like the spaciousness but it also gets full even when it would be easily possible to fit more people. This is however clearly the best coffee in Dortmund and is a solid contender for best in Germany.

Die Rosterei = the roasters?. However, we didn't order anything roasted. They are known for their coffee roasting. Since it was lunch time, we ordered lunch instead of breakfast. My wiener schnitzel was perfect and the man's saffron risotto was delicious. Pleasant but slow service. An decent place for a quick lunch, especially when not many places are open on a Sunday. Just be prepared for slow service, even by European standards. Boring review, I know!

We dined here for brunch after we walked by other places in search of a place that served omelettes. Because it was a cold grey day, we dined inside which was very cozy and right next to the coffee bagging / roasting area. You don't get much of the smell in the front but in the rear of the restaurant. I unfortunately did not have the omelette. My breakfast came with a glass champagne and a variety of meats and cheeses including lox, ham, salami, and manchego. It was served with a basket of breads which just didn't do it for me... Only the white bread was toasted. I need my bread either hot and fresh or toasted. I would definitely suggest this place as a pit stop for a light breakfast and coffee.
