When I took classes, the place very active. There was a cafeteria, a student lounge, all the classrooms were full of students. The hallways were busy, and place was fully staffed. I played forward on the basketball team. Now days, I go here to just to remember good times there. The cafeteria has been replaced by vending machines and the lounge is lonely. Bottom line is that this is a beautiful campus that overlooks Lake Michigan and is near a wildflower area, the beach and a nice park. I led some fun field trips with my biology students around the multiple ecosystems that were available. There is a really nice theater there. Great for plays and other presentations. We didn't have online classes in the 60's, we attended in person. Now days a lot of classes are online. Just not the same experience.

As recent analyses have shown, the name (prestige) of the university you graduate from has much less to do with your career success then does the quality of education you receive. My personal experience indicates that this campus offers a quality education. One of the hardest (and one of the better) courses I ever took (microeconomics) was at this campus (it was also the only course I took here) as part of my MBA program at Oshkosh - and I am a graduate of the University of Michigan (which everyone knows is way better than the University of Wisconsin - Madison). So you can waste money at a supposedly more prestigious university or save a big chunk of change and transfer to that same (prestigious)university for the final two years. Your diploma will look the same.

This is the Manitowoc campus of Lakeshore Technical College with the main campus in Cleveland,…read moreWisconsin. The focus here is GED's, high school diplomas, English language classes and test preparation. The instructors here work hard to assure their students' success. I have to admit my wife is one of the best instructors a student could ever hope to have. Many of the students here have poor academic skills. Many of them dropped out due to family problems. Some are new in the country and need English language skills. There are also classes to help them with citizenship. A GED might not be a big deal to a lot of people; but for the students here it can mean a drastic change in their lives and their job opportunities. This term 34 people got their GED's here. That's 34 people whose lives are better today than they were last year. If your educational path was interupted, or you're new to the country. If you need any academic tutoring, it would behoove you to walk in the door here and see how these folks can help you succeed

Children are able to work beyond their typical age level and explore at their own pace. At the same times, the teachers have special education back grounds so they are able to provide extra help and ideas for students who learn in different styles. Having ages 2.5 - 6 year old inthe same classroom fosters a love of learning and teaching in children. My son gets so much out of learning from children close to his own age rather than an adult. Montessori also prides itself on respecting the student and providing an environment where children learn to self direct and work independantly. Children learn to respect one another and take responsbility for their own learning. Independance is a key factor to Children's House. My 2 year does dishes on a regular basis, can sweep and mop floors, and even clean windows. These are all skills that I would not execpt of a 2 year old and yet Montessori has taught me that children are capable of doing all sorts of things for them selves. "I can do so many thing, all by myself" is sung regularly in the classroom. Contrary to popular thought, Montessori does expect children to learn certain age appropriate lessons. Instead of a typical classroom, the children are given work assignments (3 for example) but they have a choice of which to work and for how long. All that is expected is that at the end of the work period, they have worked on all 3. The children learn to self direct their learning and there is never a child sitting around "not doing anything." If a child is having a tough day, the teachers work hard to help them through it. The school also has Kindermsuik, a Library Reader, and even a Yoga instructor! The kids run their own garden in the spring and fall. They plant and take care of the garden themselves. It truly is a wonderul school. You should check it out!
