I love this place because it reminds me of the Maui I remember as a child in the 1970s. The pictures of Hawaiian children with the bright yellow background. Ceiling fans working hard to circulate the air. Mid-century plastic and ceramic dishes. The auntie who served us reminded me of my grandmother. I ordered some POG (passionfruit, orange, guava juice), sweet bread french toast (only two slices, not the regular order of three) and a small order of saimin broth. It was a perfect blend of sweet and savory after a long walk from our hotel. The sweet bread french toast was sliced thinner than I expected, which was great for a second breakfast, and came with a giant pitcher of syrup. The saimin broth was a little salty, but with some noodles it would be perfect. The POG was as I remember it. My mother's loco moco looked good. The burger patty was not too big, and the over-easy eggs looked like it had just the right balance of doneness and moisture. In addition to the customary rice, there was also corn on the side. She has a small appetite, but she ate almost all of it. It's a small place that stayed pretty full the whole time we were there. The staff were regularly circulating the floor and checking on us. I'm glad we found this place. I like Zippy's, but if we happen to be in the area when this place is open I will definitely try here first. read more

The ultimate comfort food. Stopped by after a hike in the rain and was greeted with a warm smile and tasty food. It was the first meal of the day for me and my brother but second for my parents and we still managed to finish a lot! Everything was tasty and come out faster than expected. I got the loko moko that was finished the fastest, brother got the regular roast pork that was just devoured, and the regular super dry mien and peach pancakes were for the table to share. I just flew in to Maui for work and needed a hearty breakfast in a pinch. Thanks to Yelp I was able to find this gem and it was what I would expect for a local restaurant. I tried the loco moco and it's tasty and not dry or overdone. It was served in a floral design melamine plate which added the childhood nostalgia of growing up with these dish ware. I really appreciate this family business and it doesn't try to be something else. I hope it stays like this cause I'm a fan! Always in the mood to try the local eats on vacation destinations, this place was amazing! For starters, they are a cash only establishment. Depending on when you arrive there may be a line, but it doesn't take too long. The service was great. They take your order while you are waiting outside so when you sit down it takes about 10-15min to get your food. I opted for the glorious loco moco and a side of macaroni salad. Other items chosen were the blueberry pancake and spam fried rice with an egg. I loved the home style feel of the restaurant. I loved the friendliness of the staff. For some reason a couple weeks ago was the first time I've been able to make it down to Jack's Inn. It's the perfect mom and pop type of restaurant and as soon as you walk in you know the food is going to be 'ono! Sure enough, it did not disappoint! I ordered a loco moco and the price was very reasonable. The fried rice was the kind of local fried rice that I've been searching for for a really long time. I think it might be my new fav! I love local spots and Jack's has to be as local as you can get for a solid start the morning off right - no frills breakfast spot. You'll find it located in an industrial spot, plenty of parking but as some reviewers mention it's not huge, so if you're late you might have to wait for a seat. My lady and I snagged a corner booth (hoping it wasn't a regular's spot) and we sat right by a hand drawn pic of what appears to be Jack and his family. A nice polite young man took our order (2 eggs your way, bacon, hash-browns, and I added a pancake) When ordering breakfast-you don't need fancy, you want good-Jack's fits that bill to a tea. They even brewed decaf coffee especially for me! The menu is small but there is also a specials blackboard that changes each day, which included liver and bacon, shrimp omelette and moco loco the Monday we visited. I ordered the small veggie saimin with a side of kimchi so I could mix it in and it was delicious. Plenty of chunks of cauliflower which is one of my faves, along with carrot, cabbage, etc. Hubbs ordered the breakfast sandwich full of egg n cheese along with his choice of meat, bacon. After a flight back from the mainland it was exactly what we needed, and it was easy to walk straight in, no booking, eat homemade food and not pay a ridiculous amount of money for it. Fresh off the Hawaiian Airlines flight on a Saturday morning at 645am, my friend picked me up from the airport. I asked for suggestions. It's breakfast time here on Maui and one of those suggestions turned out to be Jack's Inn in Wailuku. We tried to go to Makawao for Komoda Bakery earlier, but they were closed for vacation. Should have called ahead but oh well. We arrived at Jack's Inn around 8am. The place was semi crowded with local folks and it was the first time that I've been here. I can probably say that Jack's Inn is a hole in the wall restaurant that caters to the local people. Although they are cash only, it was nice and very convenient that I had cash on me, otherwise I'd feel foolish to ask my friend to front me the cash during this experience here at Jack's Inn. There was a menu posted outside the restaurant, so we got a look at what they offered. That corned beef hash loco moco called out to me and that was what I ended up having. The restaurant felt more like a diner than a restaurant persay. It can hold about 15-20 people at any given time. We got lucky and were seated immediately. No host to seat you or any other formalities here. Just a no nonsense breakfast place to fill your stomach and get you on your way. Thanks to my Maui friend for the recommend because the mixture of corned beef hash and the local moco gravy is definitely a rarity and amazing solution to a traveler who wants some bit of variety at breakfast. Turned out what I needed that morning! The overall experience here at Jack's Inn here in the heart of Kahului was good, small kine dining, and friendly with a local touch. It's less than 2 miles from the Kahului airport, which is perfect for breakfast or lunch, cheaper than airport fare. Only thing though, Jacks Inn does not have opening hours for dinner service. It's physical address is 312 Alamaha Street. As mentioned above, they do not presently accept major credit cards. Cash is king here for the most part. As far as parking goes, they have a small parking lot for anyone and everyone who wishes to dine here. It's tucked away in a place where I wouldn't have guessed. It turned out to be a good solid choice, especially when it came to loco moco gravy with corned beef hash together. That was definitely sinful and something worth remembering. The prices here are good, although $10 per plate is the going rate for breakfast anywhere in Maui, let alone Hawaii in general. They also do take out as well, so if you're on the go and want a good meal, come on by. They're basically your home away from home, when it comes to home cookin' - Maui style. My coworker came to Maui with me today, as I had a ton of calls to run..........but before I had to take him back to the airport so that he could catch his flight home, I told him that I'd buy him breakfast. As Jack's Inn serves breakfast all day long! As I walked into this old skool diner, we were greeted right away by some local Bruddahs, and instructed to sit ourselves down in a old skool vinyl booth. Menu's were tucked away by the table condiments, and shortly after our waiter swung by to drop off some water. After looking over the menu, my friend & I decided to get some omelettes for breakfast, and of course after seeing the various pictures of the pancakes on Yelp..........garans Bruddah Fran had to chance 'em! My friend ended up getting the "International Omelette" that consisted of (2) eggs with ham, cheese, mushrooms, round onions, & green peppers. With your omelette, you had a choice of rice, fried rice (add $1.00), wedges, hash browns, or toast. My friend ended up getting the hash browns. As for me, I got the "Veggie Omelette" which consisted of (2) eggs, broccoli, cauliflower, mushrooms, carrots, round onions and to accommodate my omelette, I also got the hash browns. Although the omelette was pretty sizable, it still did not deter Bruddah Fran from getting my pancake, because how can you not try a delicious pancake loaded with fresh fruit...........I got the blueberry of course! What can I say about the grub? My Veggie Omelette was outstanding! It was loaded with veggies, and it came out nice & hot. The hash browns were wonderful too, as it was nice & crispy! As for the pancakes, they used fresh blueberries, and how can you not like a pancake that was nice & fluffy! I will definitely come back here one day to just eat their pancakes! Yum! The decor is a bit dated, gave me a diner feel which I don't mind. The food felt so basic. Literally just hash and eggs with cheese and ham. It was also very oily. No frills here, just simple and satisfying food. Jack's Inn is a small, "hole in the wall" diner-style restaurant in Kahului serving all-day breakfast and lunch from morning until afternoon. Food is traditional island fare (e.g. plate lunch, rice/noodle dishes, breakfast staples), and I think that's why they're so successful. Simple menu, but good portions and the food is done well. They offer both take-out and dine-in. For dine-in, covid-19 social distancing is respected and they make sure to block out booths in between guests to ensure that everyone is safe. They also clean the booths between guests which provides that extra peace of mind. A menu is posted outside, and they are also posted on the walls inside the restaurant to avoid you having to touch anything. They were kind enough to take our order outside while we waited for a table so that our food would be ready by the time we were seated. The restaurant itself is in a small unassuming plaza and parking is shared with local neighboring businesses. There's a parking lot right out front that offers plenty of free parking. Inside the restaurant, it's exactly what you expect from a mom and pop style diner. Cozy booths, humble decor, and local hospitality. Nothing pretentious, nothing over the top. Payment is *CASH ONLY*, so be aware (but they also post signage at the entrance to make sure diners know that upfront). We ordered the banana pancakes with a side of bacon and I was more than happy. The pancakes are the perfect consistency and let me tell you.....they are THICCCCCC (yes, the extra C's are warranted lol. See my photos for reference). They don't skimp on the banana either, so you really do get "banana pancakes", rather than "pancakes with some banana on top" like many other breakfast spots. And to make things even more delicious, they cook the pancakes in a way where the bananas get a good caramel glaze that adds the perfect touch of sweetness. You can tell they're fresh and made to order because they come out hot and the butter melts into the pancakes effortlessly. Delish. We also ordered the standard dry mein (and I only say standard because they also offer a "super dry mein" option that comes with extra add-ons). The noodles were absolute gooey-chewy goodness. And even better is the FLAVOR. Some dry mein are typically borderline flavorless, but not this one! The noodles are well-dressed and pack tons of flavor, even without all the extra add-ins. This one came with green onion, bean sprouts, and some meat. Super satisfying. I can only imagine that the super dry mein is even better. All in all, this is a great spot for some casual breakfast or lunch. Will you find Instagram worthy over the top avocado toast here? No. But if you want a solid meal that's worth the money and ALSO supports a small local business, this should definitely be on your list. read more

Came here for breakfast and was amazed by the outlook of the place. It's a moms and pops shop after talking to one of the staff, it happens that they're a Japanese and Korean family (Jack is the grandpa). I love how comforting the food is especially when I'm far from home. I wouldn't say the food was amazing or special to me but I would say everything in the menu was affordable, good portions and comforting. The staffs are all so friendly. Plenty of parking! CASH ONLY!!! And they check for vaccination status or you can get take out Loco moco is new to us but it's a classic in hawaii so it was nice to try. The super dry mein was nice, we had the regular size and a free soup; the noodle is something I would make back at home myself. We were tired of eating breakfast on our cruise ship, so when we docked in Maui we saw Jack's and walked there, we like eating restaurants when we can, we got there and a couple in front of us it wasn't long to he seated, I ordered the pancakes with peaches and a egg! Food was amazing! Fam had the banana pancakes, the peach pancakes and the French toast. All were amazingly delicious. I had the Puunene omelette which comes with tofu and green onions. It also comes with a side and I ordered the fried rice. The chef then came out to confirm if meat was okay in the fried rice since none of the other orders included meat and indeed I changed my order to fries. It was very considerate for the chef to come out and confirm the order. Appreciated it very much. Service was great, lovely people and all the food was devoured in about 10 mins with nothing to spare and the was very cost effective as well :) read more
