I remember thinking that the place itself would be right at home in a suburb such as West End in Brisbane. Laid back, friendly, no hint of pretentiousness, & comfortable. A bit like a humorous housemate right at home in their underpants, a beer in one hand whilst cooking a mean meal. Their mantra of "Food, Booze & Good times" perfectly captures the spirit of this neighbourhood bar. I was immediately drawn to the Taco de Carne listed under "Burgers & Stuff". A soft taco with chipotle pulled pork, trev's salsa & sour cream. 3 Tacos for $15. After one bite i was blown away! The chipotle pulled pork was tender, full of flavour & Trev must be a genius because the salsa was incredible. So good, I ordered another serve. YES another 3! Left absolutely satisfied & slightly envious of locals that i cant be here on a regular basis. While i didnt have "booze" prices appear quite cheap, with beers ranging from $5-$10 & wines from $6.5 - $10 a glass. I've decided this will be my "local" (whenever I'm in Noosa), when i just want great food, & company in my trackies. Get on your bike & visit Village Bicycle in Noosa, on the corner of Noosa Parade & Bottle Brush Avenue.

Miss Moneypenny's - Looking out to Hastings Street on a rainy day

When we headed back up to the Sunshine Coast in March it was a no brainer for us to revisit this place for a proper meal and a few drinks to wile away the afternoon in a great location. Our first impression was that already Miss Moneypenny was looking a bit tired around the edges. The water carafe to fill our funky cut glass water tumblers had chips all around the rim, the glasses themselves were showing marks of wear and the menus were quite crumpled and stained. Add to that the staff uniforms varied from well dressed supervisors to quite casually dressed waitresses(aka runners and jean shorts) which left me questioning the standards for a venue which is not on the cheaper side of the market. I found the music was very generic and didn't really do anything to help the atmosphere of the place, although I know this is a personal preference. I will say I still love the wooden panelling, the lounge areas and the glassware, they add a certain touch which sets this place apart from your average cafe/restaurant on Hasting Street. The question is, is it enough? We were once again impressed with the food and for the most enjoyed our drink choices. Our frustration was the in the delays in service due to shift changes when the restaurant really wasn't busy. Your customer does come first, not catching up with your mates whilst they have a knock off drink at the bar. Your average cocktail will set you back $16-$19. Food starts with tapas around the $10 mark and main meals from about $30+. I must say that when expressed our frustrations about our drinks the staff were more than willing to take on our feedback and were keen to make sure that we knew that they are working really hard to improve their service levels and the overall standard of the product they deliver. In a world where hospitality is so dependant on it's people and changes so quickly really this is an awesome attitude that hopefully will pay off. I may not be quite so keenly anticipating a visit again next time I'm in Noosa, but if I'm passing by I'll be prepared to stop and have another drink and nibble to see if they've followed through on their plans for improvement or just been delivering lip service. It's perfectly hastings street in that its a bit wanky but you dont feel like you've been taken advantage of. The promotional 007 Drinks range are amazing too - shaken not stirred. I also indulged in a Bloody Mary and was pleased to be asked how I take it - salty, spicy or very spicy? Spicy was just right.
