Great pool, poorly run facility.
I was impressed at first when I moved into town and saw the giant pool at the recreation center. And it only costs about $100 for a year subscription. It sounded like a great deal.
And it was in theory, but I've learned over time that the center is run poorly and has sub-par customer service skills.
About 1/3 of the time that I visit, the pool is closed for some unexpected reason. This is not an exaggeration. Some of the excuses I've encountered include "Employee A did not show up for work today", "Employee B called in sick" " "The employees are out cleaning a park, so you have no lifeguard", or "we're hosting an event in the lobby so the pool is closed." These excuses happen so much, I often wonder if I will be able to swim when I arrive. It should be the responsibility of the manager to remedy these issues, but there is no such action.
In addition, I would rate the customer service skills of most employees as a 3/10. Sometimes I have to find an employee to go swimming. Sometimes they act like I'm an inconvenience. And they are never, ever friendly. They just seem to be indifferent. To be fair, there were a couple occasions with a specific lifeguard where I had positive experiences, but that was the exception.
It's unfortunate that this great public pool is currently being run incompetently, because it has the potential to be so much better. read more
