However, we frequently felt that as a relocation client (which costs them part of their commission), we were not always receiving their best service. 1. Although they were very familiar with the market and the neighborhoods on both sides of the river, they did little more than drive us around and advise us on areas that might provide resale challenges. They did not bring us a single property to visit. We had to use realtor.com and other online resources to find properties that interested us. 2. We made two separate house hunting trip and felt like we were being squeezed into their schedule on both occasions. There were very few full days of looking at houses. Most days were limited to an afternoon. 3. We were locating to the St Louis area from another state, and were given advice that assumed we understood local real estate laws and terminology. There was little time spent explaining the details at any point in the process. 4. Once we found a home we were seriously considering, there was almost zero effort made to provide us with comps, or any real advice on how to proceed through the purchase process including determining a purchase price to offer the seller. At the end of the day, we found the house. We spent our own time driving around and getting familiar with the area. We had to learn the differences in real estate law. We had to ask for specific comps. We had to make our own call on a reasonable offer. We feel like we had very little help other than getting appointments and access to the houses we wanted to see.
