I have been there twice and my opinion has not changed. Yes, the atmosphere is great - no question about it. The menu is OK, but except for happy hour (wth those items that are listed) it is pricey for somewhat mediocre food. The service is quirky - sometimes OK, sometimes not. I think for the prices that are charged (except for happy hour) the food ought to be better. With Fleming's, Sullivans, and a host of other establishments in the desert communities offering better food at better [prices, I don't think the environment will carry the place in the long run. There are just too many options out there where not only food is inexpensive but also the drinks, which at Jackalope even at happy hour are pricey. The atmosphere is excellent. Couldn't ask for better. I've been twice and the first time I ate off of the happy hour menu and although limited in choices, I expected that & was pleased with the amount of food, the quality, and the price. The second visit, I ordered the same entree off the happy hour menu but got less food (2 tacos vs 3). Also, the chicken tacos are canned chicken rather than grilled or pulled. Yuck. Also, ordered a Caesar salad in which the dressing tasted like straight up mayo. Our server stated a new chef was in charge and some menu items had changed, including the two items I mentioned. Not happy with the changes as 2 tacos isn't filling, whereas 3 hit the spot. Also, there are NO median priced entrees ($10-15 range). It's either happy hour prices, under $10, or a jump to the $20's. Very slow and the service was a disappointment. We waited 15 mins only to be seated in the back of the establishment where it was very dark and then waited another 15 mins to have our drink order taken. They where out of my son's first choice that he requested and never let us know. We finally received bread after our order came. Our server was lovely and continued to apologize but strangely there was a lady that walked around to check in and asked what we needed but never followed through. our experience last night at jackalope ranch was one of pure torture & i would never go back! our group of 7 had a reservation for the dining patio at 6:30, but were instead led to a booth for 5 inside. dispite the fact that there were several tables outside within view of our booth that were empty, we were told it was "first come first served" & this was our only choice. after much protesting they finally agreed to put us at a bigger table inside (wouldn't budge on the outside issue). now for the fun part ... 3 hours later we were still trying to get our bill & leave, after experiencing terrible service and lackluster food. our barbecue chicken & ribs were dry with only a dab of sauce (no extra on table). we had no butter for our potatoes, difficulty getting service for beverages, no wipes for our icky rib fingers, no "doggie bags" & no water refills, our little waitress (when we infrequently saw her) was constantly apologising for the kitchen & the bar .... "sorry, we're backed up". she graciously brought us a free dessert for our experience, but we were so exhausted by the experience we couldn't enjoy it. this is our 3rd try at this place & each has been equally disappointing, although this one took the cake. for all you barbecue fans out there we have had good luck with babes in rancho mirage. how in the world did jackalope get voted "best in the valley"? me think not. read more

If you like outdoor dining in a plesant garden area with waterfalls and attentive service, this should be your go to place in the south end of the Coachella Valley. Our first experience here, and we were not disappointed. We had a wonderful table up against a beautiful garden with water features. Bryce, our waiter, was most attentive and gave us superb service. We order chicken nachos as a starter. The presentation was excellent, and good flavor combinations with guacamole, pulled chicken, a tangy salsa, olives, and a variety of melted cheeses. I ordered a simple "Bowl of Shrimp and sauce" for lunch. They were plentiful, large and delicious. I only wish they had been cleaned. That was a bit of a chore. My other half had a trio of sliders the were beautifully presented, on fresh brioche buns. One of the best bloody mary's in the desert. Reasonably priced for the ambiance and quality of service and food. We'll come back whenever we find ourselves in Indio or LaQuinta. read more

What a total disappointment. We saw an ad in the paper for a $19.95 brunch for the first 100 reservations. We called and asked if we were in the first 100 and they told us yes so we made a reservation for Sunday. We live in Palm Springs so it took us over 30 minutes to drive to Jackalope but we were anxious to try it. When we got there we were met by a very rude man at the door who said he could "fit us in" but that we would definitely not be receiving the promise of a $19.95 brunch. He said they had already given away as many of those deals as they could afford. A couple checking in right behind us heard this and told the host that they had also called and were promised the special price. The host became very irritated with all of us and told us that they would not honor the price period and that we could stay or go, he didn't care which. Needless to say we all left. And honestly, it wasn't as much about the price as it was about the horrible service this man provided. I hope the money they saved covers the very negative experience that all 5 of us had that morning. We won't be going back. read more

Great ambiance! The food was delicious...we had the pork chop(good sauce) and the lamb chops(nice and meaty). The meat was cooked perfectly. Only reason he got tipped good is cause I am a server myself and still couldn't understand why such bad service! Filets were awful! Mashed potatoes dry as heck! Veggies are few broccoli and carrots.....like not even worth it and desert was even bad!!!!!!! My Pinot Grigio drink took 20 minutes to come out due to server not ringing it in and was gross! Well.....I had never visited or sat down to eat at this restaurant, The only reason i even stopped in was to speak to the event Coordinator about my daughters wedding, The Lady i spoke to was very pleasant to speak too, she answered every question i had and sold the property with in the first 10 minutes of speaking with her this place is beautiful no doubt there. and with such a nice and cheerful events person you would have to think that this place is staffed with top notch people. So about two weeks later i decided to stop in with my wife and daughter to show them the place, We arrived were seated and after about 10 min we got a chance to order some drinks, we sat around for about 20 more minutes before we had a chance to order our food kinda sluggish the place was not to busy so overlooked maybe? Myself and my Wife had steak and my daughter ordered chicken, OK medium steak for me, well done for the wife......im not quite sure when medium became rare, and well done became charcoal....but the steaks were not how we ordered them... so we talked to waitress and explained that the steaks were not how we ordered them..she took them back, and after what seemed like an eternity we had our steaks brought back to us..... now the wife's is medium and mine is still walking around mooing...rare....whatever, we eat our steaks and at the end of the meal ask if we can speak to a manager....20 mins later Darren? Darrel? David?, whatever his name was, shows up..i spoke with him explained what had happened with the steaks and so on. Basically i was told we could not be compensated for any of meal he could not do anything for us, he seemed upset when he arrived at our table and walked away irritated that he even had to bother to come to our table and speak with us. Its really is sad however that such a beautiful place is ruined by the service and management, the real charm of this restaurant is the grounds, perfect for nice event like a wedding or reception, the event department is staffed with a professional, i did not get to meet the other event person but i am sure they are just as knowledgeable as she is, i knew i would be taken care of if i had planned the event here by these people, even after the bad experience when we dinned, this is still a possible place to have my daughters wedding though i may speak with the events department and ask if i can get outside catering read more

Had a couple of good dinners here in the past, but this last Friday was just awful. Made a reservation specifically to come for prime rib. This was the toughest piece of meat I've ever been served anywhere. Was not cooked enough either, could barely cut it with the big steak knife. Took 2 bites and told the server I wasn't paying for it. Husband's was almost as bad, but he ate some of his. She had the manager come over and he apologized, offered something else, and took it off our bill. It was so noisy in there you couldn't carry on a conversation, not a good experience at all. well...it's no longer a gourmet restaurant...major bummer!!! went there to celebrate a couple things with my man but could barely hear each other over the loud music playing by the DJ on the dance floor. the food didn't get much better... i ordered a moscow mule and it came in a pint glass instead of a copper mug...totally ruined the drink!! then... I got the ahi tacos...the ahi was fishy and stringy like it had been sitting out all day and then, when I wasn't even finished the waitress asked if i was done, i said no, and she took my plate anyways. too bad she wasn't listening, I would have loved to finish my last awful ahi taco. then... i ordered the salmon for dinner. I was in the mood for some gourmet food but the entire menu was BBQ, Tamales, and bar food so I went for the salmon with asparagus salad and chile lime rice. The BBQ chicken and ribs were actually very good but my salmon was dry and tasted like it had been sitting under the heat lamps a couple minutes too long and the rice tasted like it didnt have any chile or lime in it. then... the restaurant called to ask how my dining experience went and I told them exactly what I'm writing now but the hostess didn't seem to car about any word that was coming out of my mouth and just mumbled enough to say, "thank you for your feedback." i was furious!! i went out for a classy, upscale celebratory date and ended up here because they decided they wanted to change the route of the restaurant about a year ago and she couldn't even fake her sincerity. watch out for this place. great to come dance, but dont expect anything fabulous. oh, and another heads up, our waiter said they're going to change the direction of the restaurant again. hmm...i dont think i'll stick around to hope it gets better. read more

Terrible service. Not enough servers for 1:30 in afternoon. Plenty of tables available outside but not enough staff for them. Food was good once we received the correct food. First wrong soup, then no sauce for French dip, the sauce my husband ordered for ribeye, peppercorn, waitress said not available. However the person who brought food went and got it. we came in for music and appetizers. we sat at the bar and ordered sliders, very good and a salad. We paid the bill and then danced once. When we returned a man behind the bar not our server said "you cannot sit here or be in here unless you go to the front door and buy a $10 chip each. We already spent more than that. The manager came over and a friend told them this is ridiculous.They exchanged harsh words. I have no idea what really went on but we got up and left our drinks on the counter which they removed and we went back by the dj and stood there. Very odd. I do now realize you have to get a $10 chip each which goes towards food and drinks but we already paid more than that and our server said nothing. I called the manager later to tell her how awful we were treated and has not returned our call. Now people come and go thru the back door side door. How do they know who paid their $10 chip or not. They need to now probably stamp your hand, I now know from talking to some people they just come in and dance and buy nothing. I think Jackalope owes us an apology for embarracing us with telling us infront of everyone sitting there to leave. read more

We went to Jackalope restaurant for a late lunch about a week and a half ago. There were only about 14 other customers. We had to wait a bit for a waiter to take our order and then about 10 more min just to get our water and 15 more to get our drinks. The food and atmosphere were great, the service was a rating of less than 1. After waiting for our check for a reasonable length of time I had to go inside to ask for our waitress to bring the check. We had been told it was a good restaurant but we won't be going back unless we can have a 3 hour lunch. (We were not in a hurry at all, service was just not attentive and slow) read more

Second time here and both times we received extremely poor service from our waiter. I am very forgiving and always take into account how busy at a restaurant is. Our waiter gave every table refills of iced tea, water, margaritas, doggy bags, butter except for us. We were promised refills on our ice tea and some bread which never came. All I received was a Caesar salad which wasn't all that great. It's pretty shitty being ignored at a restaurant like this. It was ridiculous! We left before receiving any entrées and I let the manager know the situation on my way out. He was very apologetic and I let him know we had a similar experience last time we were here. I also let them know that it's extremely rare for me to leave a restaurant like this. Too bad such a nice restaurant has such poor employees. (REVIEW FOR BAR AND PALAPA AREA) One of the most beautiful resteraunts I have ever been too! I always feel as if I am on vacation at a stunning resort. The grounds are manicured perfectly and the waterfalls drown all of my stress away. I have only eaten in the bar area and palapa area. The food never dissapoints! Fast, delicious and wakes up my palette with exciting flavors! Some of my favorites are the Shrimp & Sweet Corn Chowder, the Iceberg Wedge Salad (Green Chile Dressing is to die for), Clamari Fries, Pork Conchinita Tacos, and the Shrimp Tacos with Chipotle Aioli. Happy Hour prices can't be beat! But be prepared for large crowds at that time. The waitresses are friendly but always seem to be a bit understaffed for the big crowds. The only other criticism is that the regular prices are a little high, so try to come during happy hour! But the view and ambivance is worth the price! They have live music on the weekends and a few nights a week. read more

Highway 111 Robbery!! I ordered a full slab of ribs for takeout. When I got home, there were 8, count 'em, 8 ribs in a plastic container. No way full slab, and the price was outrageous. I called the restaurant, and the man who answered the phone said "We don't sell by the slab. We only sell small and large orders." This was the second time my wife and I went there after being in shock the first time how awesome this restaurant was. Even bought some friends and kids for the second go around - but unfortunately we won't be back. We literally sat at our table for 20 minutes even before being offered water, another 10-15 minutes for our waiter to take our order. Totally disappointed so far. The food finally arrived and the order was wrong, but the waiter quickly made up for it. My wife and I ordered the brisket which was more salty than the Slaton Sea! Finally, and why I'm rating it a 2 star experience is because #1 - the waiter never once came by to refill our drinks - we had to beg another waiter, and second - we asked for the check - it didn't arrive for another 25 minutes later while we just sat around waiting patiently. Finally had to run him down and ask again for the check. So frustrated because I really do like this place, the atmosphere is fantastic but customer service is everything. I am so sorry the food here is consistently poor despite the beautiful facility. Tonight we did try again for National Tequila Day.. special was $12 for a 16 ounce Margarita and 2 tacos. Think of what a yummy taco is. These...beef, pork or chicken... no seafood.. husband had pork and I had chicken.. a piece or two of dry unflavored protein, no additions,, no sour cream, guacamole, lettuce , tomato...nada.., just a dry piece of meat in a taco. I have been a fan of Jackalope Ranch since it's opening. We love the atmosphere and the outside dining. My complaint only concerns the kitchen and the processing of most items from scratch. Usually this process guarantees better quality than buying items already processed. The past 3 visits have shown me the area of the kitchen where preparation starts leaves a great deal to be desired, at least in my case. The first experience had to do with a chicken quesadilla. I have had it before this particular visit and it has been really good. I was enjoying my quesadilla when all of a sudden I bit down on a bone. It was actually 2 small bones that were small enough to have caused a serious problem if swallowed. I have to assume caution was not taken by the person boning the chicken to use in the quesadilla. The next visit which was 12/24/16 was very nice until I ordered a peach tart. It was very good until I chomped down on what I figured out was part of a peach pit as best I could tell. Again, poor prep work when cutting up the peaches for the tart. I asked and was told in both cases that the kitchen prepares the ingredients for both the tart and the quesadilla from scratch. In preparing the peach, care was not taken when removing the pit and making sure part of it didn't end up in my peach tart. If this wasn't part of a peach pit, then the item I could have broke my tooth on, came from somewhere else in the kitchen. The same evening I also had filet mignon medallions with corn salsa and sirrachi sauce. I noticed the flavor was a bit off and as I was nearing the end of eating the dish I tasted even a stronger flavor of what I knew was preparing beef that had already started turning. Most of us recognize this when we leave a filet or ribeye in our refrigerator a day or two too long. But a restaurant should never serve beef left in the cooler long enough to affect the flavor of the meat. This could only happen if someone is not paying attention and exercising good quality control in the kitchen. I could possibly overlook one of these issues had I only had one bad experience. It having had this happen on 3 occasions (actually 2 separate visits and 3 occurrences) makes me feel as though the kitchen staff isn't using due diligence in preparing our food. I love Jackalope Ranch and I hope they can take more precautions with respect to kitchen food preparation. read more

We had the best food,service and experience at Jackalope restaurant and keep going back. The calamari, chicken wings and BBQ sliders are our favorites for Happy Hour, but everything is excellent. Karla was our waitress and took our order and delivered to perfection. Bartender Meghan was very personable and we look for her every time we go to the bar. Tonight the Manager named Chris came by our table to make sure everything was to our liking and spent time visiting with us and making us feel like valued customers at Jackalope. We sat outside under misters, were extremely comfortable and thoroughly enjoyed the ambiance of a beautiful garden and three waterfalls. The restaurant has been remodeled and is absolutely gorgeous. I have never felt so strongly about poor food before to place a posting on Yelp. But this evening I do. We took out an order of the full (?) rack of ribs dinner which came with two sides, I chose macaroni and cheese(?) and cole slaw. First off the cost was $28 for eight overcooked, tasteless and dry ribs, and two very small portions of sides. The macaroni had no cheese except the cheese on the Doritos Nacho Cheese chips that were sprinkled on the macaroni. I have noticed the quality of food slowly deteriorate over time. I am thoroughly disappointed with the cost and poor quality of the food and will not eat, nor recommend this restaurant to anyone ever again. read more

For Christmas our daughters purchased a Kaiser Restaurant gift card for us to use while we vacationed in the Palm Springs area. Monday we dined at Jackalope Ranch Restaurant. We sat outside and enjoyed the lovely ambience. After dining my husband used the gift card to "pay" for the meal. Our waitress told us that the machine was unable to process the gift card and we needed to use another method of payment which we did, our Visa. Confused I stopped on the way out and asked a manager why our gift card didn't work. Fortunately I had the gift card receipt. She said it should. Then she took the gift card, receipt, and our Visa receipt to the back. She returned after using the gift card for payment explaining that we would not see an immediate credit on our Visa for a few days. Therefore I asked for copies of all the transactions. If dining at Jackalope, watch out when trying to use your gift cards! read more
