Happy hour has great food selections, reasonably priced. Loved dining under the stars. We keep going back...I highly recommend it.

Beautiful restaurant. Too bad I didn't even eat there. After waiting over an hour for our food, I received my food uncooked. After waiting another half hour I cancelled my order. There were 4 of us at dinner. We waited so long for our food. They all ate and I was still waiting for my meal I sent back. Spoke to the waitress and the manager. Both detached and unresponsive. I have never written a yelp review before. And I also have never sat in a restaurant for 2 hours before and not eaten. I will never return to this place. read more

Without a doubt the worst experience. Lunch (french dip) terrible (3 out of 4 people at table ordered this). Au jus arrived,only after requesting twice, well after french dip was already cold. I have not been to Jackalope Ranch in several years. Though a beautiful building and close to our home, the service there was bad enough that we crossed it off of our list of local spots we visit a few years back. However, we recently had family members in town for a reunion, we wanted to take them someplace close and nice. Foolishly, this was the occasion on which we decided to give this restaurant another try. What a mistake! Our server, a blonde lady who never smiled, had to be the worst server I have ever had. EVER. The first part--ordering drinks and appetizers went alright because they weren't at all busy yet. After that, we never saw her again for about an hour. Finally, my husband (who is loathe to do such things, but was starving and worrying about his relatives' hunger as well) sought her out and politely asked if she could come and take our entree order. "I know, I know." she said to him without turning around. Fifteen minutes later, she came to our table, looking very annoyed and in a rude manner took everyone's order. It was as if we were a bother. The food took quite a while to arrive. One of the dishes was missing--it was clearly forgotten. A salad, it didn't arrive for another 30 minutes, so my husband's brother had to sit there and watch everyone eat. No fun, but it does happen. The part that galls is that there was no apology from our server. None. At all. At any time. The check was close to $500--and nothing. Needless to say, I will never return to this restaurant. It was a horrible, embarrassing experience--embarrassing because we chose the place to take our guests. And worth noting--the problem isn't the food. It's not remarkable, but it's ok. Certainly not worth enduring that insulting attitude all night from our server. She is desperately in need of customer service training! read more

I live only 2 cities away but I was on this side of town meeting a friend so we came to this restaurant since it was close by. I wasn't expecting much so I asked to see the menu before we committed ourselves to a table. The hostess Dawne was very welcoming and recommended the ribs when she saw I was debating over the menu. She was very friendly and gave the place a good vibe. We enjoyed our meal (especially the ribs) even though our server didn't seem too happy to be serving us. When the hostess walked past our table, she even stopped by quickly to see how I liked the food. Overall the combo of good food and good customer service, made the difference. If you get the chance, stop by. Its well worth it. read more

We do not recommend this restaurant at all. ! We were told it was going to be a half an hour wait that ended up being 1 and 1/2 hour wait. Once we were seated we had to find someone to wait on us. We placed our order and then waited more. After being at the restaurant for almost three hours, we still did not have food. We barely saw our waitress and didn't see a manager until we tracked him down. The manager seemed completely unconcerned that we had waited that long and still had not eaten. As we were leaving the restaurant we passed a number of tables that said that they had been waiting just as long or even longer. This a poorly run restaurant and we will not be back!!! read more

We were disappointed. The waiter was busy and reminded us 3 times that they were "getting their butts kicked." Drinks slow to arrive, inattentive wait staff, meet delivered cold and 1/3 fat, side of beans was 2 tablespoons max in a small container that was mostly liquid with a few beans at the bottom, second drink ordered and never delivered. Primavera was a bowl of seasoned noodles with a few, scattered pieces of vegetables. Small amount of food for the price. Overall, very poor value. Gave 2 stars instead of 1 star since the ambiance was okay. Maybe it was a tough night for the restaurant, but we will not return. read more

Went for dinner our last night in the desert. Impressive building and architectural design. Our car was parked immediately by the Valet, we were given choices of where to sit in the restaurant (we chose a more quiet location), and then were a little stumped at the basic menu. However, the food was EXCELLENT and were not disappointed in the least. We thoroughly enjoyed our 12 oz prime rib (best i have ever had) and seasonal vegetables (garlic smashed potatoes were to die for) and we discovered a great new Zinfandel (Rosenblum) with our waiter's help. Now, speaking of our waiter, Jesus.....what an awesome human being he was. We enjoyed some great conversation with him throughout the evening as he looked after our every need. So all in all, a fantastic experience and we will be back! read more

The food was as good as well-run Denny's. The service was o.k. The expectation was high, having experienced Callendar's restaurants over the past decades (and not been disappointed no matter what we ordered). The caliber of the food and beer didn't live up to the Callendar name. Dinner for two ran about $100 which is awfully expensive for this level of cuisine. We have been to Jackalope once before, during the summer of 2012, and I had great memories of this beautiful venue and did not have any complains about their food. We went back there yesterday for Valentine's day, which is also my husband's birthday. We ended up waiting for the food for over an hour, the side dishes were ALL wrong from what we had ordered and, my husband, for the first time in his life, sent back his dish (duck) to the kitchen. Our waiter said that he would ask his manager to come speak with us and we are still waiting... plus some of the management was speaking about my husband in the kitchen while pointing their fingers at him. The atmosphere and service was simply amazing and I will be going back in the near future. The staff at the front counter always greet customers with a smile and welcoming aura always indicates a good time. Our waiter made sure that time there was the best by always making sure our drink(s) were always full and our food was brought out in a rapid manner considering the packed house on a friday night. She came around every 2-5 minutes to check up on us and see if we needed anything else. The Structure is one of the most beautiful I have seen (it compares and or beats some of the LA restaurants) and I live in LA. The outside patio is stunning along with the acustic music playing, waterfalls, ponds, and multiple casual resting areas make jackalope that more stunning! The Food was perfect on the point, got what i ordered and enjoyed every bite. The menu is friendly to all ages and will not disapoint. *Can't wait until my next trip out to the desert and will definitely bring friends with me. read more

I cannot believe some peoples reviews, except to say I witnessed table next to me who ordered a lot of food, it looked like ribs, chicken and a steak of some sort. They devoured it and was saying how delicious it was. The manager came by and talked with them and they replied terrible-we want this meal free. They would not say why and threatened to put them on yelp if they did not get this for free. Suffice it to say, my service from Stephanie was outstanding. We had a reservation and when we got there were told we had to wait, even though there were lots of empty tables. 30 minutes later we were seated but our waitress was completely clueless! She had no idea they even had a three course dinner special going on. They were out of two of the beers on the menu and messed up our wine order. The food was ok- ish, but the potatoes were very dry. Came here on the recommendation of a friend. Read the reviews on Yelp and really should have heeded them because the food here was well below par. The restaurant, grounds, etc, are beautiful, but in the end the food has to match the surroundings, because that's what we are coming for. There are many beautiful restaurants in the Desert and the food is good too. Jackalope needs to decide if they are in the architecture business or the food business. Some of that architecture budget should have been allocated to hiring better chefs and kitchen staff who know good food and take pride in serving it. We brought a group of international guests here for a 60th birthday celebration. The restaurant was packed, but that can't be an excuse for bad food. They took reservations. They knew when they would be busy. Why wasn't the kitchen ready to deal with it? We came for the ribs. They were hard. I had to saw mine off the bone. They should have been succulent and falling off the bone. Everyone said their ribs were hard. Some ordered the ribs and chicken combo. They said the chicken was delicious, but the ribs were hard. That's all I kept hearing. The ribs were hard. This is unforgivable for a restaurant promoting "classic bbq" dining. The reason Jackalope gets 2 stars instead of 1 is that we had an excellent server. She had a great personality and dealt with a table of 13 with ease and grace. Also, the people who had chicken said it was delicious. EVERYTHING should have been delicious. This is not an inexpensive restaurant. No quibble with that. But we did not get value for money. If you are OK with mediocre food in a beautiful setting, this place is for you. If you want a complete dining experience, I suggest you look elsewhere in the Desert. Unfortunately, my international guests will not have a chance to and for that I'm deeply sorry we chose Jackalope for our special night out. read more

Good food and service with a beautiful setting.

My husband and I seem to give this place a chance every year and it always seems to fail. We came to the Coachella Valley this year with no intention of dining at The Jackalope Ranch, because of the previous unsatisfying visits. We were at a cocktail party with some friends and they had suggested we try it again and ask for a server by the name of Bryce. They gave us a name, so why not try it out, right? IT WAS GREAT. We usually sit out on the patio, but we were told this server was dinner only. The hostess takes us to a quiet, but very nice dining room in the back and says our server will be right with us. Boy was she right. Bryce was at our table in seconds with a friendly greeting and suggesting cocktails to start off with. I got the 18 OZ margarita and my husband tried an IPA Bryce had suggested over the Stone. Our server suggested some appetizers to start off with, but unfortunately we don't have big enough stomachs for all that food. Bryce informed us that since it is the weekend that their prime rib is available. That settled it then and there. My husband and I both got the prime rib. We were brought bread which was excellent and we waited for our food while Bryce stopped by every now and then to ask us about our drinks and make small talk. Our food came out in a timely fashion and it looked great. It tasted even better. We finished our food (or tried) and were offered a dessert menu, but we were far too full. By far the best service we have had at this restaurant. Bryce was very friendly, attentive, knowledgeable, and had a great personality. I have been to all of this owners locations - Kaiser Grill, Chophouse etc. I am not a fan of tourist traps and want to go on record to say I am not impressed. The food is mediocre for sure, the service is a 3 out of 5 on a good day. The thing this joint has in spades is the décor and ambiance - with the bar in the center of the restaurant, overlooking an open concept with a birds eye to the crooner singing nightly. If you want to impress a friend, a date or your parents take them here, it will impress them. Just be prepared to shell out big bucks, mediocre food and sloppy service. What a disappointing and embarrassing experience. Our group of 11 had a table on the patio and the atmosphere was unique and beautiful. Unfortunately the night went down from there. Although the drinks came promptly and profusely the food took forever and even when it was delivered several in our party did not get the right thing. Tried some of my husband's BBQ, it was good but I had the carne asada salad and the meat was cold and bland. One member of our group had too many drinks and although he was a little loud and chatty with the servers it did not seem to be a problem. As we were finishing our dinner the floor manager approached our table and very rudely announced that we were all cut off. He then left us to pay our bill, the server hustled us to settle up without ever asking if we wanted anything else. When we lingered they sent a "bouncer" to ask us to leave. It was unprofessional and embarrassing to our group which included restaurant owners, local business people, and repeat visitors from out of town. I will not return to Jackalope or recommend it to any visitors to the Palm Springs Area. read more

The worst dining experience we have ever had. Suffice it to say after two hours we left without eating. No communication about long wait times for table or food. Manager showed no remorse or offered any apology. Two other tables walked out at the same time. Our usual stop through palm Desert on our way to and fro LA. Figured we would try a new place to get a bite and drink. Beautiful atmosphere...nice decor, but terrible service. Way understaffed. No wait staff. The minute you entered the place you had to wait for service just to get seated! There were people in front of us waiting to get seated and they were rolling their eyes. We sat outside in the bar section (small bites) because they were only offering a buffet in the main dining area. Finally someone came out after 10 minutes and took our order. No utensils or napkins. The poor couple beside us got their meal and had to wait for silverware and a napkin. Anyway we ordered quesadillas, but were cold when came out. The Bloody Mary had no alcohol in it, I swear, and was charged 1.00 less than the special 10.00 one (the only difference was that had a bacon strip). Don't know if I would go back...maybe will give them another chance??!! Liked the atmosphere only!! read more

Without a doubt, the single worst non-dinning experience I've ever had. First, we made a reservation and arrived on time only to be told that they were busy and it didn't matter if we had a reservation. We were offered a seat out on a cold patio even though we specifically asked for an indoor table... our option was to wait 45 min. Or seat outside. Starving... we begrudgingly opted for the cold. Then in the the course of the first 10 minutes outside we had three different people say they were going to be our server. One did actually return to take our order and we we told her we were super hungry and pressed for time. She said no problem. 20 min later she apogized and said our order was on the way. 20 minutes later she returned without food and said the same thing. 22 more minutes later (yes, I timed it) she stopped by to apologize and said that the kitchen was "backed up". When I expressed frustration she said she'd take care of it immediately and proceeded to disappear for another 12 minutes at which point my son and I got up, went to the concierge to settle up on our drinks and left over an hour after sitting down without having been served. Absolute horrible dining experience. If I could give negative stars I would. read more

Stunning decor and grounds. Unmatched in the desert. BUT it appears they spent so much on the decor and grounds, they didn't stress service, taste, or hiring a chef that could cook! We went to the happy hour. But we left unhappy. He ordered a frozen margarita which was tasteless, watery, and terrible! It wasn't even worth the half price we paid. I ordered a glass of house wine. Same thing. Tasteless! two buck chuck is better!! The appetizer (their guacamole) arrived. It was green and hot. All you could taste was hot. The color was correct. The WORST guacamole we have ever had. Because it was so HOT, we looked for our water. There was none. As soon as our waitress delivered the drinks she disappearedl HE had to go to the bar and get us some water. When we needed our check, there was the cocktail waitress chatting with another waitress and even though he waved his arms, SHE ignored!! They need to step up their recipes and their customer service or all that money they spent on beautification of the grounds and building will be in foreclosure. Very disappointing. Been here a few years back and the food and service were much better, one of the reasons why we wanted to bring my husbands sister and husband. The service was poor and the food was not worth the price we paid. We ordered the calamari appetizer, it was tasty but not hot, like it had been sitting out for a while. The sweet chicken wings were good and hot. My husband and sister in law ordered the same salad. My husbands was delicious but my sister in laws was missing the dressing and tasted like oil. We asked for dressing, it was not the same as my husbands. She wasn't able to finish her salad. The tortilla soup was bland. The baby back ribs were tasty but luke warm and the coleslaw that came with it was watery and tasteless. The waitress seemed irritated that it took us so long to order and once we did, she went MIA. Our water was never refilled or were we offered more drinks. We weren't offered dessert and we had to flag down another waiter to ask to order another drink. The waitress gave us our bill by setting it down on the table and stated here is your bill. For the price we paid and the service and quality of food we received, I would not recommend or rerun..it's too bad because it was much better in the past read more

It has been at least 5 years since we were here. We come to the Palm Springs area about 5 times per year and will definitely add this back to our list. Almost across the street from Shields Date Garden - maybe a few blocks down the road. It was also about 15 minutes from Fantasy Springs so we ate here before we saw a show at the nearby Casino/Hotel/Venue. We were seated outside on a perfect night. We had never eaten back there before and the space it large and beautiful. Our service was attentive with good coordination between server, runners and manager. I had the BBQ brisket plate which was outstanding. The special also comes with soup or salad and I selected the Caesar which has a great dressing. And a desert. My wife had a salmon salad which she enjoyed. The salmon was flavorful and cooked well. This is a very large restaurant and seems very well run. If there was a zero star option I would give it. Last night we had one of the most bizarre and awful dinner experiences. What should have been a quick meal turned into a 2 hour fiasco. The restaurant was at 20% capacity at best but we were told they were busy. It took over 20 min to get water and that showed up after a round of drinks. My friend tried to substitute a salad for the fries and was told they absolutely could not do it and they couldn't even make a side salad (keep in mind they have an entire section on their menu for salads... so it's not like they're lacking "side salad" ingredients) She was told she could have slaw, fries or sweet potato fries. She got the sweet potato fries and we later found out we were charged $1.50 for the fries she didn't even want! The manager was unapologetic and instead argued with us over the amount of time we had been there. We had 4 waitresses and 2 bus boys but I had to go up to the bar to get my husband some silverware. No one seemed to care that we were disappointed rather each person that came had an "it is what it is" attitude. There was a lack of team warm, motivation of employees and clearly a lack in positive and encouraging management. This place has so much potential and sadly will be at the bottom of our list for local hang outs. If you have 3 hours to enjoy a margarita, nachos and foolish entertainment this is your joint! read more

Due to the fact that we left before we even got to EATING dinner.....this rating is based on poor "company policy", regard for customers needs, and poor management. Upon arrival and after ordering a house Marg. I informed the waiter that due to some food allergies, I needed some kind of modification(s) to the item that I was wanting to order. Our server regretfully informed us that the management/kitchen does not honor ANY substitutions, whatsoever. Company policy.... I asked to speak to the manager in hopes of resolving the issue. He seemed nice enough at first but quickly became rather rude and continued to reiterate, that indeed, there was no way that I could have a salmon dish that came with ANY different sides/presentation than the one on the menu. I let him know that I was very allergic to these items and would get sick if I ate such, it was not a matter of sheer preference here. Despite this he simply shrugged his shoulders, said "OK!", and then walked away, not to return. (the oddest response I have EVER seen from a manager in my life) Our server returned, apologized and informed us that this was his last week at the restaurant after many months with the company due to such issues and lack of customer regard. So, long story short, we decided to take the check and go else where. He told us he was leaving to go to the Cliffhouse, down the road, which we had seen on our way up to Babes..... we decided to go there instead...BEST decision EVER!! If you want an awesome meal, great service, and food that is WORTH the price you pay, go to Cliffhouse and support a restaurant that gives a damn about their customers. The ONLY thing I will give Babes props for is a very beautiful, very spacious property/restaurant..... I find it a shame that a company that is so unwilling to accommodate their clients has managed to make enough money to be able to afford such an establishment. read more
