After I was ticketed, I contacted 2 other attorneys in addition to Mr. Dillin. Mr. Sluder's office was one of them. I sent the same email to each attorney. While Mr. Dillin responded almost immediately very late at night and answered his own phone, I received an email the next day from Mr. Sluder's assistant. While Mr. Dillin would be representing me personally, I would be represented by Mr. Sluder's Buncombe County associate. While Mr. Dillin was confident that he would be able to get my charge reduced to an equipment violation which would not have any insurance or DMV points, Mr. Sluder's office wanted to plead to 0-9 over the limit. While that would (theoretically) would not have resulted in an insurance rate increase, it would have resulted in an 1 point on my driving record. They were not even open to discussing an alternative. While Mr. Dillin was only going to charge his attorney fee upfront, Mr. Sluder's office was going to charge the entire amount (court costs, fines, and attorney fees) upfront regardless of the outcome. Since Mr. Dillin was able to get my charge dismissed, I owed nothing more -- thus saving myself well over half of what I would have paid Mr. Sluder's office. On the plus side, Mr. Sluder's office was NOT the worst of the 3 attorney's. The 3rd took 2 days to get back to me, would have charged over 150 more than Mr. Sluder and if he was able to get my ticket dismissed, still would have kept the entire amount. The upshot -- if you get caught in the NC State Highway Patrol's annual "fundraiser", do yourself a favor and contact multiple attorneys and find the one that will do what's right for you rather than what is right for them.

The $250 firm said "You get what you pay for" which I know is not necessarily true. Both firms said they could plead down to an equipment violation that would at least keep my insurance from ballooning. I would have to pay a fine of almost $300. iTickets.law was very frictionless to sign up and keep track. They went to court for me and got the whole case dismissed. Which means it doesn't exist and I didn't have to even pay a fine. They under promised and over delivered. I'm very happy to say the least.

Initially, we received some some poor advice about how to proceed, in our opinion and in retrospect. Then we went to mediation and this is where Cindy and the firm really screwed up our supposed settlement. The wording for the settlement that she composed allowed the opposing party to accuse us of breach of contract, file another lawsuit and put is in a very bad/precarious situation. I would not recommend her/this firm for representation.
