I made my appointment online with Julianna, I showed up exactly on time, she was saving somebody else in her chair and was doing highlights. I did wait for 10' and then I asked when is my appointment going to start, seeing as it was already 10' into my time. She just turned her back towards me and continued working on the foils. I left the salon and had my hair done immediately at TRIBEZ, where I have been treated with courtesy and consideration. In short, Amy is an absolutely incredible hair colorist/genius/unicorn/balayage angel. If you are looking for a passionate, extremely hard-working, detail-oriented, professional, intuitive, hair color perfectionist, please book an appointment with Amy. I will be stunned if you are able to find anyone who values their work more than Amy does in the Bay Area, possibly anywhere. Her balayage/highlighting skills are swoon-worthy and will convert you to a devout and faithful follower of the sacred hair chair of Amy Gabor. Okay, that was the short version. Now to the good stuff! I first came to Amy in 2014, after graduating and moving back to the Bay Area. Guys, when I tell you I did extensive research on hair colorists who specialize in balayage in the East Bay, I am not exaggerating. (I have literally done all the legwork for you. Trust me, go to Amy.) I looked at her photos, read the descriptions and already knew this was a person who takes their work seriously and is v professional. Sign me up. After my first hair color with Amy, I was completely obsessed. I went in every eight weeks religiously and still could have gone more often because Amy makes me feel THAT good about myself. Among the many things I adore about Amy is that she is focused and professional while completing her work. I enjoy a relaxing salon experience and Amy always delivers. There is no gossip, negativity, complaining, or prying. This is worth ten zillion stars alone. Amy listens to my thoughts (no matter how questionable), gives her feedback (never condescendingly), and is able to create a color and application that works perfectly for my particular skin tone. Yes, I was once the warm, mystic-tanned girl who thought I could pull off icy blonde balayage/highlights. My hair is naturally black. Imagine that for a second. Amy imagined it, knew it wasn't right for my coloring, and consistently gives me blonde/lighter tones that WORK. Luckily for everyone, I outgrew the phase of thinking I was a SI swimsuit model. ANYWAYS, I have reached the point where I trust Amy, her creativity, her knowledge, and her skill completely and really want her to use me as her canvas. I am so intrigued and excited by her technique and passion for hair that I am honestly fascinated to see what she can do, since I know the outcome will always be incredible. I've found my favorite stylist Jessica. She's amazing. She used to work in a Danville salon that was nice. But this one is soooo much nicer. I love the atmosphere and the vibe is wonderful. But Jessica is awesome no matter where she is. I had really short hair for over 17 years and she's awesome with my crazy temperamental hair. I decided to grow it out 3 years ago and she's been AMAZING at getting me through the crazy process of a buzz cut to beyond shoulder length. Love her!! read more

I just moved to the area from Portland, Oregon in October and desperately needed my hair done. A girlfriend recommended Vicky at Jack Thomas salon. Let me start this with, I'm super picky about my hair. I mean, it took me till May to schedule something because I wanted to be sure I'd be happy. I texted her and even included pictures of what I wanted, when I was happiest with my hair and what my hair looked like then. I'm sure she wanted to run for the hills after all of this. The day of my appointment she made sure I wasn't doing something on the spur of the moment and made sure she knew exactly what I wanted. We took a good 4 inches off because my hair desperately needed it and did a great pink in the ends. Not something I usually do but I loved it and thought, why the hell not, it's only hair. It turned out amazing. Vicky made sure to tell me if I wasn't happy to stop by and shed fix it. She guarantees all her work. She is so sweet and easy to talk to. I cannot recommend her enough. As for the salon, holy wow! They were still finishing up in there and didn't have it done yet but what was done? Gorgeous. So relaxing and very chic. I cannot wait to see it all done! Pricing at the salon is very reasonable, and my highlights are always beautiful & natural looking. Plus, my hair is in excellent condition now, thanks to the wide variety of quality products available. Merchandise is never pushed on clients, but good advice is always available. The new salon is amazing: high-end stylish but with a totally comfortable vibe, efficient, and immaculately clean. It's so hard to find an excellent colorist (Donald has won "best color in the East Bay" multiple times) for a reasonable price, and it's a bonus to find someone who is also genuinely nice. These stylists have no clue about color!!! I was having Amy who no longer works there do my color and highlights. Initially, she did a pretty good job. Each time that I saw her she adjusted the base color to get as close to my natural color as possible which is medium to slightly darker brown NOT black! She never could get it right and after she left, I went to Vicki, one of the owners. I specifically told her that Amy made my hair close to if not black and NOT to do that with the base color. She assured me that I was a level 6 and it was not going to be black. As she applied the base, she was so focused on chatting the entire time that it's doubtful she focused on my hair color because when I got home it looked black! My husband even commented once again on a color job done at this salon that my hair looked black. This was done right before I relocated out of the area so I had no time to get it rectified and even my hairdresser who I used to see years ago and am seeing again while living in the area I do now commented on how black it looked. Thank heavens my hair dresser where I live now was able to get the base color to my natural color because she is an expert. My advice to anyone thinking of going to this salon especially for color is DO NOT as they have no clue what the hell they are doing! read more

Amy Gabor is amazing at color! My two favorite colors have been my honey balayage and solid rich auburn. She has an eye for where to place the highlights etc. My hair color always looks great whether I wear barrel waves, air dry or wrap it up in a high bun. When I was ready to switch back to my brown hair, I was very pleased with the grow out/transition! She knows her stuff. Amy is knowledgeable and takes her time with each client. I've recommended two friends, one with blonde hair and the other with jet black hair, and they are now repeat clients of Amy.
