Paul obviously has no background in manufacturing or inventorying rare and unusual parts. Neither do I but I certainly understand why they have to charge what they do. This company specializes in NEWLY MANUFACTURED components for many rare and out of production firearms. This means demand is low and infrequent which requires Jack First to carry the finished parts in inventory (with their costs of materials and labor) until a purchase occurs. The prices reflect the fact that these are sunk costs until a sale is made. This delay in return on investment can be measured in years sometimes... I just purchased a new extractor for a Winchester model 77, made from tool steel and case hardened to factory specifications. My other options were to find a used one (with no real guarantee that it wasn't worn past it's point of usefulness) or-as Paul suggests-purchase the appropriate steel blank, clamp it into a high quality mill and using the original blueprints or a set of dimensions gleaned from a flawless new part in hand and crank that thing out easy peasy. I'm from Tennessee and hunted a part for a revolver I own for 20 years. Called Jack's First, and within 4 days had the part, and it was the original part. After that I ordered the three catalogs they sold. The revolver belonged to my uncle. Thanks Jack's First !! I'm 77 years old , and I was shooting this revolver when I was 9 years old.
