I don't buy cars often. It's not that I don't like the buzz that only a new set of wheels can provide. But dealerships generally make me feel as if I am about to have a kidney removed. Jack Daniels was low key and low pressure. I put 25 miles on three different test drives and, in the end, bought none of the cars I drove. Vernon Kuiken was the perfect salesman. There was no fast talking. No trashing of other dealers or brands. No backslapping. Just an honest appraisal of my needs and cars that might fit them. I bought my VW from them and had a terrible experience. I explicitly requested they quote me the "out the door price" for the vehicle including all taxes and fees. I was provided one price for the vehicle and when attempting to get the license plate, the dealership informed me an additional $100 was needed due to their miscalculations. You would think they would accept responsibility for their own miscalculation (they quoted the wrong weight class when calculating the fee-did I mention I bought a VW-that's all they sell!) but they blamed the state of NJ and wouldn't give me my plates unless I paid. To add insult to injury, they wouldn't take my personal check for $100-meanwhile they had accepted a personal check for over $7000 a week earlier and let me drive away with a brand new car. My friend went in there a couple of weeks later to buy a used car. She had called to confirm the price in advance but when she showed up, they tried to charge her $1000 more! read more

I received excellent service from Najee Belle at the Fairlawn dealership. He went out of his way to expedite the process, and even assisted in transporting the vehicle after showroom hours. While the wait was a bit excessive (~2 hours on two separate occasions), the dealership did seem to be understaffed at the time, but the process moved along reasonably well considering the circumstances. read more

Just left that dealership where they they must have thought I was born last night. I received a letter that they are willing to buy out my lease from me 3 months early and can get me into a new car cheaper than my original payments. My mileage is 12000 miles over so at 20c amile thats a cost to them of 2400. The car I wanted had a 30000 sticker and and When I figured my downpayment and their finance charge which vw is offering 0 percent right now it came out to over 40000. The worst customer service. I'm at the end of my lease and have had months of phone calls, texts, emails, and physical mail from this dealership telling me to turn in my lease. I called Jack Daniels Monday to make a lease return appointment and was sent to the voicemail of the lease return manager. I left a message and did not receive a call back. I spoke to another person at the dealership on Tuesday who told me that I would need to put in a request and it would take 48-72 hours for a manager to even approve my request and then I could make an appointment. I continued to try calling this morning (Wednesday) and no one at the dealership picked up the phone. I finally spoke to VW customer care and VW credit. Both agreed that the 48-72 hour turnaround was unacceptable and they helped me find another dealership that would take my car today. I was in and out of that VW dealership in 20 minutes. Bait and Switch-don't buy used cars here. I negotiated a price for a used car at the dealership. That agreed upon price was just the starting point with the dealership. They give me a contract that has me paying them that agreed upon price, plus almost $300 for the oil change they gave the car and inspection they gave it to get it ready to sell on the lot, and almost $500 for document fee (what documents I am not sure b/c other than their form contract there were no docs). I would not recommend doing business with this dealership unless you are buying new. read more

I'd rather ride a bicycle than get another car from Jack Daniels VW. Awful customer service. Don't expect anyone to ever get back to you once they sell you the car. Saw they added in an extra $200 charge for "window etching" that I specifically stated I did not want to pay for/was not interested in. They said that was fine...and then charged me anyway. What?! It's taking them forever to pay off the last 2 payments on my previous lease, and I can't ever really get a straight answer as to why that is. They just give vague answers like their finance guy is "at a meeting" and "sorry we've been really busy" In addition, my VW car net was set up incorrectly (by them) and I was the one who had to make at least 4-5 ridiculous phone calls to fix....their mistake. They stated they couldn't help due to "privacy reasons" um ok...but this wouldn't have happened if they just set it up right the first time. I really do love my car but I regret getting it here. HORRIBLE PLACE! I don't even want to give them one star. They took my car for 2 weeks to fix the roof leakage and finally they called me to pick up the car yesterday. And what happened? There were huge cracks on the windshield! When my husband complained both RICHARD HO and FRED GATES, they said that there might be an existing chip before they got our car. Their argumentation was - there might be a high chance that an unknown tiny chip got progressed to multiple cracks while the car was parked outside for 2 weeks (see the attached image. It looks obvious that the cause of those multi-directional cracks by an immediate impact if you understand the BASIC PHYSICS). What a joke! Previously, we haven't seen any chips on the windshield. Period! Then we found out another fact that they did a test drive for 8 miles which hasn't put on the invoice (see the attachment). We were furious and confronted the issue. However, FRED GATES not only ditched replacing the damaged windshield but just tried so hard to hide with all kinds of ridiculous denials. I only can say that he's a Professional Liar. Their explanations were defensive, senseless and incompetent. I owned various VW cars entire my life. From this unpleasant experience, I would never purchase a single VW again. Originally I had written a very favorable review for this car buying experience. Not even a month in that has entirely changed. During the process my salesperson mentioned multiple times the car was still under some of the original bumper to bumper warranty. Several things about the car I took issue with before purchasing he said would be covered by this. He got this information from the Carfax report (a third party). When I bring the car in for service I am told not only that there is no warranty, but none of what I am asking for is covered. I was pushed into buying this car under false pretenses. I also was promised a second key, which they couldn't find when I took possession of the car. Now I am being told both myself and my friend who were present misheard the salesman who promised us a key. They are hundreds of dollars. Terrible service all around by the sales department. I called Friday because I saw a car listed online, the sales person verified car was there and he has physically seen the car, I called Saturday morning to make sure the car was there. The sales person said yes the car is here and has the keys to the car waiting for me. I then sold my car ! Went to the bank withdrew the rest of the cash. Bothered a family member to drive wth me 3 hours away to buy this said car. I get there the sales person has me test driving another car. Not the same car. Turns out the car listed online is not available for sale. ??? The price difference was too high for me to make a purchase. But now I drove a total of 6 hours and am car less. I bought a used car about a couple of weeks ago from Jack Daniels Volkswagen dealership in Fair Lawn, NJ. And I am greatly disappointed. I drove off the lot in my car I just purchased and immediately there was a shaking in the steering wheel. When I got home I email the sales person who sold me the car and told him about the problem. He replied and said he will talk to the boss and never got back to me. I took the car to a different Volkswagen dealership and they said my front two rims were bent and that the two front tires were practically bald. I spent another $1500 dollars which I did not expect to spend. I finally talked to the sales person and he said that they could not do anything for me.I am of Asian descent and my English and understanding is not the best. I believe they took advantage of that, I think these people are dishonest, and it gives Jack Daniels a bad name. I never thought I'd say this about a dealership, but it was a pleasure getting a car from them. Very up front and friendly, not sleazy at all. They quoted a price and didn't try to add on additional last minute fees or make an excuse for not honoring the agreed price (like at other dealerships). I worked with Scott. I met the General Manager at the little hot dog stand inside the show room and initially mistook him for another sales rep, or maybe even the hot dog restocker because, well, he was checking on the hot dogs and friendly and chatty. Salesperson, Elvis, seemed completely out of his league. Went to drive off the lot and there was NO gas despite my asking if the car needed anything, and if so please have it taken care of while we waited (it was snowing out and we wanted to get out of there asap). Car was also filthy with cigarette packs in back seat. Was promised reimbursement for the gas - they have gone silent. 1.0 star rating 1/18/2017 Chris and his staff replaced my radio/CD player. When the CD player breaks the dealership has to take the CD's out and return them because the unit locks the customer out. The replace cost $1,100 of the CDplayer. No joke. I have been after Chris for the last 90 days to return the 150.00 worth of CD's. I called the national corp office who had to call him to get his attention because he would not return calls. After VW national corp office twisted his arm he finally got a hold of the CD's, called my wife and PROMISED to send them. He did not. I called again and his secy said they have been on his desk for two weeks and she would send them immediately. She did not. I checked yelp and another person said the BBB has given this dealership an "F". I called this morning and the phone was actually never answered after 25 rings. I guess they have caller ID. This is hands down the most unethical place I have ever dealt with. What is the difference between this and stealing? F rating. Oh and by the way the corp office advised me to call Tony Pomo today so I did.. They said he could fix this mess but he was in a meeting. How about it Tony? I got what I thought was a fair deal for a VW Tiguan lease, and was ready to choose a color and drive home. After letting Les, the salesperson know that I would arrive around 7.30 pm (to which he several times agreed to), I get there and surprise! The lot where the new cars are parked is closed. He barely apologyzed saying "our previous lot was open till 9, I thought this would be too". Mind you, I left work early in the city to make it to my appointment in Fair Lawn, not exactly around the corner. Forget about giving excelent service and having the car brought in before I arrive (clearly too much to ask for here), the least you could do is know your own business hours. The floor manager finally found a key to the lot and approx 45 min later, brought in the car. He first expected me to inspect it outdoors in the dark, to which I clearly refused. So the car was brought inside. Even if he promised I could drive off that same day, it was obvious the car was not ready, the people who wash the car and prep it were gone - why lie to my face, waste my time and say that "if you are patient you can drive home tonight"?? At this point I had already wasted an hour and a half, doing nothing. The worst was the floor manager's (Chet I believe) attitude: he said he was "bending over backwards" for us, when all he was doing was his job. He also pointed fingers and said that not knowing the lot was closed was "the salesman's fault, not mine". What kind of manager says that?? He also very clearly implied he was "doing us a favor", which was enough aggravation for us to leave. I was so annoyed by their service, the incompetence and the attitude, that I did some more research and found an even better deal. I have to say Tom the general manager called me right away when he found out a customer had called to cancel the transaction and request the deposit back. He was courteous, apologized on behalf of his team (who did not call me all day to apologyze for the night before) and improved the original deal, but this was not enough to forego the bad service and decide to give them my business, and did not match the deal I was getting elsewhere. Two weeks later, I am still waiting for my credit to be processed. When calling back to speak to the general manager about my credit, this time, he did not pick up my call. I called my credit card company and they said they don't see any submission for a credit on that transaction. Needless to say, I had Visa cancel it. In short: their inefficency and attitude lost them business. Had things been handled differently, I would have returned the following day to get the car, but thanks to their quality of service, I was pushed to do more reasearch and saved $2k on a lease. read more

This was by far the best car buying experience my wife and I have encountered. From the sales guys to the general manager there isn't one bad thing I could say about my experience. Our salesman Shawn Harris was knowledgeable, welcoming, and persistent in making sure we received the best deal they could possibly give us. He worked with the GM to get us as close as they could to the monthly price range we were trying to be in. We viewed many cars, some were not even onsite, but they did whatever was needed to make sure we were happy with our final decision. Finally, the finance manger was beyond helpful! He even informed us about our option to request a refund on the remainder of the warranty from my trade in which helped us save even more money in the end! I have been to multiple dealers in the area and have purchased my share of vehicles, but the difference is when I left here I felt apart of something bigger not just another customer but apart of the Jack Daniels family. I will for sure recommend this dealer to anyone I know and they can count on us returning for our next car purchase. read more

I'm a VW driver of more than 20 years' standing. I called the Jack Daniels showroom to request a price for a specific Jetta model and options during their May 2015 sale. I was put in touch with a salesman, David Li. He gave me a satisfactory number, and asked that I put down a $500 deposit to "hold the price" since the sale I was taking advantage of "ended tomorrow" (it actually ended two days later). He also told me that he could offer me a Passat with the same options for the same price. Since my wife and I needed the vehicle, I made a special trip (about 25 miles) to put down the deposit. When I arrived, I met with Mr. Li and we reviewed the figures he'd given me; I could see that he'd previously written down the exact specifications I'd given him on his legal pad. He told me that he could offer me the Passat, but for a much higher price. I told him that I therefore wouldn't consider it. He then told me that the Jetta figures he'd quoted me were for a base model, and that what I wanted would cost much more. When I told him that was unacceptable, he went to get his manager, Greg King Jr. Greg tried to talk me into accepting a lower priced model that would meet the cost figure they'd previously given me. I refused, and Greg said he'd look into it further and promised to "email (you) later today". After I didn't receive an email from him, I emailed him. He responded by saying that he'd spoken with his manager, Andre Tobar, and that they would not stand by their original offer. I asked to speak with Andre and was told that I could speak with him the day after the sale ended. When I pointed out that futility of that gesture, I received a email from Andre with his showroom telephone number. I called him, but was told that "he'd just left for the day". I asked for an alternate contact number, and sent Andre an email asking him to call me, but of course I never heard back. Jack Daniels Volkswagen of Fair Lawn NJ runs a classic bait & switch operation, and I foolishly fell for it by wasting my time going to their showroom. Why some car dealers act as though it's still 1950 when all of the information about them and their cars is available online is beyond me. Don't waste your time here; the salespeople and managers here are an insult to your intelligence and have absolutely no respect for you. Update: I received a yelp message from "Jack D." asking that I contact John Nunley, Director of Sales at Jack Daniels VW. I called Mr. Nunley and essentially read him the review above; he said he'd investigate and call me the same day. He called me at 7PM that evening to tell me that, because there wasn't a written offer (which I'd gone to the dealership to obtain--see above), I had no business holding them to their offer. Lesson: have ANY dealer confirm their quote via email to you before you visit them. That said, I haven't ever been treated as shoddily as I have been by Jack Daniels Volkswagen, and I stand by my review. AVOID THEM. read more

This was my third Volkswagen, Great cars which is why I keep purchasing them. I've bought from three different dealerships and Jack Daniels so far has been the biggest headache! A week after driving off the lot with a BRAND new car the hubcap was not put on all the way, so a friend took it off and popped it back on, then the next day the engine light was on, drove all the way back to Fairlawn to the service department on a Saturday for 2 hours for them to tell me it was a part they needed to order from Germany, will call as soon as part is in and will come pick up my car from work so I'm not inconvenienced again and add more miles on my car, which they will then return with a full tank of gas and cleaned!. The car was returned later that day with NO gas and NOT cleaned. They did reach out to me and apologized. Then 3 months after having the car, the cop pulls me over to tell me they are towing my car because the license plate comes up stolen, I had the registration and insurance and everything to prove that this was my car legally. Cop didn't want to hear it. My registration was supposed to be transferred which it was but to my old VW, which was why nothing was matching. So I had to take the morning off of work and pay to get my car out the impound not to mention I have to take another day off work to sit in court to prove this is my car. Neither of these situations I feel did my salesman care to know about, which Is why I was told if I ever have a problem again to go straight to management. Customer service doesn't get any worse than this. I bring in my car because the air conditioner doesn't blow air after about 20-30 minutes of driving. This happens every single day for the last two months. I tell this to the service advisor when scheduling the appointment. Today when I bring it in I tell her the heat didn't blow at all today either. I got a call saying they couldn't recreate the problem. I asked if her if they drove it. She said yes. UPDATE - I called John Nunley as I was informed to do by the person who responded to my yelp review. I only called John Nunley because I had received TWO emails back to back right after I wrote my review thanking me for an interest in a 2015 VW Golf and to call Angela so she could help me find what I was looking for (which I'm not at all). Apparently Angela hasn't worked for VW in a long time and John was "unavailable - seems to be their catch phrase at that dealership. I received a call from their customer relations, Betsy, who was pleasant as I'm sure she needs to be since her job is to fix what the three stooges (Andre, Greg and David) did and I've heard they have a tendency to do often with other customers as well. She was supposed to call back with pricing on a newer Golf similar to mine. She never did - which is perfectly fine because after speaking with her and hearing that Andre had left that morning and is no longer with the company I'm realizing more and more I don't want anything to do with this dealership and I will be boycotting VW forever. Hopefully they see this and will stop emailing and sending mailers for me to come in for a new car. This one is the last VW I will ever buy - it's a shame because their service department is the best around and the manager over there is top of the line when it comes to customer service. Maybe they could give him a raise since he's the only one who seems to ever answer questions, make sure you're taken care of respectfully and doesn't look at a woman like she's "cuckoo" or an idiot who doesn't know about cars - as the sales guys at Jack Daniels do. read more

This is my second review, I have too many issues with this dealer and the way I was treated. I wrote a review back in July and Andre Tobar the Sales Manager used my review of Jack Daniels as a bargaining chip. I took down my review in hopes that Andre would make things right but, hopes are for suckers. This is what I would suggest to anyone looking for a VW. 1. Go to another dealer, I hear Three County in Lyndhurst and Ginsinger in Clifton are much better dealerships. 2. If you go to Jack Daniels, go over ever inch of the car, check the windshield for chips, check the rugs for burn marks, check the exterior for scratches/nicks, check the windows for marks, tint peeling, check the tires treads, check the engine's oil and all the fluid levels. Jack Daniels goes for a quick flip and you will pay to have it fixed properly. 3. If you have any dealings with Greg King Jr or Andre Tobar get anything they say in writing. Maybe if they write it down you will have some ground to stand on. I could write more but, that's the basics. I just have photos of my issues to relive the pain. read more
