The M.D. Anderson Library at the University of Houston became my home away from home for about a…read moremonth while I completed training for a remote job, and it turned out to be a great place to get work done. The library itself is huge, with plenty of floors and study spaces to fit just about anyone's style. My favorite spots were the enclosed glass study carrels. They're private enough to let you focus, offer lots of natural light (some even have their own lighting), and make for a comfortable workspace. Just know they're designed for studying--not soundproofing. You can clearly hear conversations from the carrels around you, so don't expect total silence. Also, if you're planning a long day, choose a carrel with one of the more comfortable chairs. Library hours vary between the regular school year and the summer, especially for visitors who aren't affiliated with the university, but I was still able to put in a full workday most days. The biggest inconvenience was checking in. Since I wasn't a UH student or employee, security had to manually enter my information every single visit. After checking in daily for weeks, I couldn't help but wonder why they couldn't simply scan my ID and speed up the process. One thing that surprised me was how rarely I saw security walking the building. My carrel was near an exit, and while nothing ever happened, I sometimes felt like an easy target if someone had bad intentions. There are signs reminding you to watch your belongings, and I definitely recommend taking that advice. My biggest complaint, though, was the sugar ants. They seemed to be everywhere and became a constant nuisance while I was working. Despite those issues, I really appreciated having access to such an impressive facility. It's spacious, comfortable, and offers some of the best study and work spaces I've found. Fix the ant problem and streamline visitor check-in, and this place would be close to perfect.

There are several tables you can sit at by the entrance without checking in. Some have power outlets. There are vending machines on this floor too. If you don't have a UH student ID, you'll need to check-in using your driver's license with security. There is plenty of seating throughout the building. Tons of private study rooms. Not too busy on a Sunday afternoon and you don't need permission to use the study room. The 5th floor study rooms by the windows have a view of Houston's skyline. I would say it is good for work/study. The wifi speed is very good. You can stream Spotify and browse the web easily. I'm not familiar with this campus but I found visitor parking that's a 8 minute walk. Not sure if there is closer parking for visitors. Cost is $10 for the day (by phone).

The kids programs looked extensive, and the room they use for the kiddos concealed 90% of the noise from the rest of the library. I didn't even need to use my headphones. The staff were so helpful and kind. You can tell they truly love what they do for their community through this library. I loved the large selection of Spanish books, and was helped in finding easier ones to read to practice my Spanish skills. Highly recommend for anyone to visit. They have plenty of free parking, and tons of great food options nearby too!

The children's area features an awesome tree to sit in or around, my kids love it. There are several small tables and puzzles for the littlest patrons too. It is usually calm and quiet when we visit. I like how they ask adults without children to leave the children's area open just for that group, so they will have their own space to sit and read. They do offer lots of extras, such as knitting classes, story times, and visiting authors and local historians. I've been a member of this library since I was five years old, and I love that my own kids can enjoy it too.

I needed to locate a book for a discussion (professionally related) and the Pearland Library was the only location to have it. So shout out to the Brazoria County Library system! Thanks! I've visited this location once to pickup my library hold. I explored for a short period of time but not for very long. I was able to grab my hold off the shelf with ease and get it checked out with the library staff member. Kudos to them because I didn't have my physical library card with me. I chose to give them a call first to ensure not having my physical card wouldn't be a problem. Staff members were nice and helpful. This location is spacious. When I'm in the area, I'll definitely return. Oh something else to note - a huge green flag (!!) for this library system is that you can apply for the library card online and they will send your card to you in the mail. Talk about accessibility, am I right?

I'm not sure if that's the reason why they don't have wifi for guests. The staff wasn't very welcoming as when I walked in I wasn't greeted, just stared at like I was an alien from outer space. However, one of the shelving assistant that had a Irish accent or British accent was polite and showed that she was friendly. They have early voting going on now in a separate room. There aren't any tile floors just carpet and no bad odor inside. Also, the parking wasn't limited meaning there is lots of spots available. It's pretty convenient to find, if you're traveling from Green Tee just drive straight onto Liberty Dr., it's on the right side across from City Hall. First off if you are a Laufey fan and reading this before September 4, 2026 then speed (safely) on over and get yours before they stop! No registration or reservations needed. There is a dedicated parking for the library and it's free. You will enter from the Lamar Street and it goes down below the library. That the elevator to the first floor and it will get you to the lobby of the library. There is 4 floors. The lobby is primarily where you pick up hold, buy books on sale, kids play area, vinyl area, and exhibits. Then in the fourth floor you will find the program room, teens sections, and kids sections. Books for their age group will be in the section as well as some activities I only had time to peruse those two floors as I had to get my infant home. Now that I have a card and a good run through I'll be back! The gentleman who helped me get my laufey card at customer service was friendly and very patient with the line. However,…read moreI've found the it to be a lot more pleasant than meets the eye and there are plenty of reasons to stop by. For instance: :: This location is the flagship of all HPL locations and consists of multiple buildings that include the Central Library as well. It is a massive city block with ample amounts of outdoor space with underground parking. :: The library card, MYLink, is completely free for Texas residents. Anyone who isn't living here can score a $40 annual membership. The benefits include free access to many of the libraries programs and amenities. This includes reserving rooms for study or meetings, indoor / outdoor WiFi, and even take home tablets and laptops. :: Speaking of the WiFi, it's fast. Taking a video call while streaming HD vids with zero lag is a wonderful thing. The coverage is extensive, with outdoor and indoor connectivity and I haven't found any dead zones just yet. :: Their outdoor area aka "Barbara Bush Literacy Plaza" is really a nice spot to gather and/or spend time in especially during great weather. :: The library closes every day at 6pm from Monday-Thursday and 5pm on Fridays and Saturdays. Late night library visits are totally not a thing. :: This might not seem obvious to first timers, but this is a lowkey excellent place for people watching. There are many interesting characters floating around the library, some of whom are utilizing it for shelter, restrooms, and likely the WiFi and computer usage. That being said, finding someone passed out in one of the meeting rooms and also out cold on a bench in the same day is rather impressive. :: My passport was expiring and renewing the process couldn't have been easier than filing my application here. They took my photo, helped with my paperowrk, and was very diligent with the timeline for rushed and regular delivery options. While it may seem cliché, this HPL is worth the visit since they have a little something for everyone. The staff is pleasant and it really is a quiet place to learn a little something, while doing a lot.
